Chapter Forty-Two: Severe Injury

"Self-...self-isolation of consciousness?" Wang Yao looked at Hua Tuo in astonishment.

"Yes, this is a relatively advanced self-protection method of immortals. It is generally used to deal with illusions or mental attacks. It sets a limit for oneself to withstand the attack. If the limit is exceeded, one will shut down one's consciousness. Usually, one will wake up on their own after a period of time and there is nothing to worry about."

"I see!" Wang Yao nodded, feeling ashamed again. Fortunately, Caixia didn't completely trust him and had laid such a trap. Otherwise, things might have really gone wrong.

"How long did I sleep?" Wang Yao then asked.

He felt like he had slept for a long time. Since Hua Tuo said that Cai Xia would wake up on her own, how could Cai Xia have been closed off for so long? She should wake up soon.

"Not long. With me on the scene, how could I possibly keep you unconscious for too long?" Hua Tuo raised his eyebrows confidently. "From the time I saw you until now, it's been no more than three hours."

"Three hours?" Wang Yao gasped. Ever since that professor disguised as a child left, he hadn't heard Caixia's voice again. After that, he argued with the young man and was beaten, but a lot of time had passed, and now Caixia had remained withdrawn.

"This... could you please go and check on that spirit again? We encountered a professor. Caixia has been in seclusion for more than three hours now. How long do immortals usually stay in seclusion?"

Wang Yao asked nervously.

"That's hard to say. Depending on the situation, the time can be long or short. If you accidentally get trapped in some secret realm, you can remain secluded for thousands of years. What's so strange about three hours?" Hua Tuo shook his head in confusion, but then his eyes widened immediately.

"Professor? What professor?" Hua Tuo asked, puzzled.

“Not a professor who teaches, but a monster called a ‘beast’…” Wang Yao and Hua Tuo explained in detail the task he and Cai Xia had carried out that morning, and Hua Tuo’s expression changed as he listened.

"You mean... that fairy outside is the ninth-generation descendant of the Heavenly Emperor?" Hua Tuo looked at Wang Yao uncertainly.

“She is a ninth-generation granddaughter,” Wang Yao nodded.

"Damn it, why didn't you say so earlier?" Hua Tuo jumped up, turned around and darted out of the room. Wang Yao blinked, wondering what the old man had suddenly thought of.

After a while, Hua Tuo and Cai Xia walked in one after the other.

"Caixia, are you...are you alright?" Wang Yao was overjoyed to see Caixia.

"I'm fine. That professor is very powerful; I almost fell for his trick." Caixia smiled and nodded at Wang Yao.

"It's all my fault. You kept telling me to pay attention to your expression, but I got distracted by that professor." Wang Yao apologized to Caixia, blushing.

"It's not your fault. I underestimated that professor's skills. He targeted you right away. With one shout, he both bewitched me and distracted you. He didn't give you any time to pay attention to me. I was too confident and almost made a big mistake."

Caixia shook her head repeatedly.

"My wife is so understanding. Even though it's my fault, she takes all the blame." Wang Yao was overjoyed to hear Caixia's words.

"Um, Director Caixia, I didn't know you were coming, and I haven't been able to restore your consciousness. Please forgive me!" Hua Tuo apologized to Caixia, blushing.

"It's alright. As long as we don't fall into the hands of the professor, it doesn't really matter whether we recover our consciousness sooner or later." Caixia smiled at Huatuo.

The self-isolation of consciousness was Caixia's last life-saving measure to prevent the operation from failing. She had prepared for the worst-case scenario of being captured by the professor, so she set the self-isolation time to be very long, enough to last until the Heavenly Court sent down celestial generals to rescue her.

Now that she hasn't fallen into the professor's hands, she has basically completed her mission. Hua Tuo's awakening of her didn't actually take long, so Cai Xia wouldn't care.

"The last thing I remember is a series of wailing cries that are so unsettling and uncontrollable. What happened after that? How did you get hurt?" Caixia, who had long been withdrawn, had many questions in her mind and hurriedly asked Wang Yao.

Wang Yao guessed that the crying Cai Xia was talking about was the crying of the child the professor was pretending to make when he left. Before that, he had repeatedly used the Awakening Token to strike Cai Xia, but even that failed to keep her conscious. It seemed that the professor was indeed very powerful in bewitching women.

He recounted what happened next to Caixia in detail, and Caixia frowned upon hearing it.

"It's said that the professor is good at creating clones, but the clones can't stray too far from the original body. Everyone who ganged up on you has an identity, so it's probably... not a problem with your system. Also... you... you haven't mastered checkers yet?"

"What checkers?" Wang Yao looked at Caixia in surprise.

“Uh…” Caixia shook her head repeatedly. “I was really too reckless in this operation.”

Logically speaking, if Wang Yao knew the magic of "teleportation," after discovering that Caixia's consciousness was closed off, he could have simply used teleportation to escape with Caixia's spirit body, so how could he have been injured?

It is clear from this that Wang Yao has not yet mastered the immortal technique "teleportation". Therefore, it is not difficult to understand why Wang Yao was seriously injured. After all, although that professor is not good at physical attacks, as long as there is the word "beast" in his name, how can he be compared to an ordinary mortal?

Even if that professor were throwing wild punches, Wang Yao wouldn't be able to withstand it, given his stamina. Thinking about this, Caixia felt even more guilty. She hadn't properly assessed Wang Yao's strength beforehand, and had almost caused him to be beaten to death.

"This beast is terrifying. I suspect its abilities have likely improved, and it's no longer just bewitching women. You must never provoke it again. I'll report this to the Heavenly Court before we take any further action. This time... I'm sorry you suffered..."
