It was late at night, one in the morning.
Somewhere in the center of Jingnan City.
A black Rolls-Royce slowly drove into the garden, its iron gates wide open.
This garden-style mansion occupies a vast area. It is an extension and improvement upon the traditional Hui-style architecture.
Jingnan is a top-tier city, and the fact that the Zhang Group could build a private garden that can be viewed with a ticket in the heart of the city, where land is incredibly valuable, speaks volumes about their extravagance.
As I got out of the car, my second uncle grabbed me by the neck and dragged me into the main hall, where he forced me to sit down on the sofa.
Frowning slightly, Crown Prince Zhang Youye looked annoyed: "Second Uncle, I already told you that Ah Chen and I have things to do in Jia City. Why did you insist on bringing me back?"
"Why did you say you came back?"
As he spoke, his second uncle, Zhang Zhiting, gestured to the aunt on the side to get some tea, as he hadn't even had a sip of water on the way back.
He sat down on the sofa, his tone full of disappointment and frustration.
"He's going to live with his wife in Jiaxing, what are you doing there, being a third wheel? How old are you? Your brothers are all married and have established their own careers, and you're still loafing around all day? What exactly are you trying to do?"
Having to listen to these same tired words every time, Zhang Youye scratched at his calluses, his tone becoming even more impatient.
"Where have I been lazy and irresponsible?"
"Then tell me, what exactly do you want? We let you have your fun before. We didn't force you to manage the family business if you didn't want to, and the research institute was doing well anyway. But how old are you? Don't you really want to settle down?"
"I..." Zhang Youye hesitated, wanting to say something but stopping himself.
"What's wrong? Judging from your expression, do you have someone you like? Whose daughter is she?"
"Second Uncle, if you're in such a hurry, why don't you take care of my cousin's business first? Why are you rushing me?"
Speechless at his second uncle's words, Zhang Youye asked again, "Where's my old man? Where is he? Did he drag me back in the middle of the night? Did he go to sleep by himself?"
"You brat!" A furious curse came from the second floor.
Without turning around, I knew it was love from my own father.
Casually crossing his long legs across the coffee table in front of him, Zhang Youye turned his head, lazily stretched out his long arm, and waved to his father.
"Hey, old man."
Disgusted by his lazy demeanor, Zhang Jinnan strode down from the second floor, slapped his son on the back of the head, and then turned to complain to his younger brother.
“Look at this kid. He thought that following Lu Kechen all these years would make things better. I was hoping he could learn something from him, but he’s useless. He’s always been a lazy bum.”
"Brother, calm down."
After calming his elder brother down, Zhang Zhiting gave his nephew a look, signaling him to go back inside first.
Zhang Youye slowly got up from the sofa, yawned, stretched, and then leisurely straightened his clothes before heading upstairs.
Before I had taken more than a few steps, another angry curse came from beside me.
"You brat! Get up early tomorrow! Come with me to the Shu family's house as a guest!"
"The Shu family?" Zhang Zhitin was somewhat surprised, as they had just visited the Shu family a few days ago. "Brother, what were we doing at the Shu family? Didn't we just go there a few days ago?"
Picking up the tea offered by the housekeeper, Zhang Jinnan calmed his anger and bent down to sit on the sofa.
As he picked up the documents from the coffee table and handed them to his younger brother, he glanced sideways at his son, who was standing to the side.
"Grandpa Shu called me and said he wanted to introduce his granddaughter to us."
"Your own granddaughter?"
After carefully examining the documents, Zhang Zhitin said knowingly, "Didn't Grandma Shu always refuse to let Grandpa Shu look for them? Has her granddaughter already been found?"
"The old lady passed away some time ago, so the old man naturally wanted to find his son who was away from home as soon as possible. Unfortunately, his son and daughter-in-law were both disappointing, leaving behind only a daughter."
"Brother, you mean you want to let Yuno..."
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a noise.
While the two were talking, Zhang Youye had already climbed several steps. After making a commotion to stop them, he leaned forward and rested his slender wrists on the handrail, his bony wrists crossed in the air.
His expression was indifferent as he looked down at the two people in the hall.
"Why don't you ask Zhang Huaiyi for a marriage alliance? Why do you have to ask me? I'm not interested, I'm busy tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Jinnan slammed his hand on the table and, without saying a word, threw a cushion at him.
“We will arrange things for your cousin when he returns to China. You are the eldest son in the family, and it would be a laughing stock if the eldest son is still unmarried at this age.”
“If I let you run wild outside any longer, what will become of the Zhang family’s reputation? Let me tell you, you’re coming with me tomorrow, or I’ll break your legs.”
It was late, and I was too lazy to go to the courtyard where I lived.
Hit by a soft, fluffy pillow that barely hurt him, Zhang Youye pursed his lips and casually tossed it downstairs.
He turned around calmly, lifted his long legs and continued walking up the stairs to the second floor, uttering his last sentence without any warmth.
"Then break my legs if you want. At worst, I'll be in a wheelchair. Anyway, I'll say the same thing."
"I have no interest in arranged marriages."
As his nephew's tall figure gradually disappeared, Zhang Zhiting pondered for a moment and couldn't help but analyze the situation.
"Brother, although we have a marriage alliance with the Shu family, are you really willing to let Youye marry into this awkward situation of being an illegitimate child?"
"Furthermore, given the old lady's recent passing and the Shu family's current situation, I'm worried about those outside..."
Zhang Jinnan could understand his hesitation.
The Zhang family is the head of the five major families.
Zhang Youye was the eldest son.
But he always acted nonchalant and disdainful, never giving anyone a second glance.
Which family would he be interested in if they were to form a marriage alliance?
There's no point in overthinking it now; it would be better to let the two of them meet at the Shu family's ancestral home first.
If this kid still doesn't like it.
Let him remain a bachelor for the rest of his life.
Who cares about that?
After getting up and telling his younger brother that he was alright, Zhang Jinnan turned and left.
