Chapter Ninety-Seven: Haste makes waste

They finally spoke!

The little girl was overjoyed, just like a fisherman who had finally managed to hook a fish with his unorthodox fishing skills. She wanted to reel in the line immediately, but was afraid of scaring the fish.

After Ling Shen finished speaking, he clearly felt the little girl's eyes light up.

But in reality, Ling Shen didn't want to pay attention to the little girl. He just wanted to prove that he wasn't mute, so after saying that, he turned his head away and went back into his autistic mode.

But Ling Shen's sudden words just now were an encouragement to the little girl.

This gave her even more motivation to harass Ling Shen.

So, after Ling Shen turned his head away, the little girl harassed him even more intensely.

She rolled over on the bed and landed right next to Ling Shen, then rested her chin on her hands and looked at him with bright, sparkling eyes.

The little girl asked again, "You're not mute, so what's your name?"

Ling Shen remained silent.

The little girl said again, "I know everyone in this house, but I don't know you. Tell me your name, and let's be friends, okay?"

Ling Shen looked ahead and felt it was a bit noisy.

The little girl persisted, continuing her nagging: "Don't be so aloof! How old are you? You're not lively at all. No girl will like you if you act like that."

Ling Shen sighed inwardly, suddenly regretting talking to her earlier.

The little girl, oblivious to Ling Shen's displeasure, continued, "What is your name? My name is Zhiyan, Zhi as in 'children should not make a fuss,' and Yan as in 'beauty is found in books.'"

Ling Shen's head was spinning from her nagging. He stayed in his room the whole time, and anyone else in the house who wanted to talk to him would deliberately speak in a low voice.

The little girl's voice wasn't loud, just at a normal volume, but Ling Shen still found it incredibly noisy.

Ling Shen felt as if a thousand little bees were buzzing in his ears, making his head spin and he didn't want to listen anymore.

But he didn't know if the little girl named Zhiyan would ask him any more questions after he told her his name.

Just now, when he said he wasn't mute, it wasn't just because he genuinely wanted to prove he wasn't mute, but also because he wanted her to stop talking about that topic.

The truth is, Zhiyan did stop that topic, but she started a new one.

Therefore, Ling Shen dared not gamble this time, and thus, faced with Zhiyan's incessant chatter, Ling Shen chose to avoid her.

He turned slightly, then got off the bed and silently walked to the table where the food was placed.

Yes, he was hungry.

He wants to eat.

He didn't want to listen to this little girl named Zhiyan's rambling anymore.

As Ling Shen walked to the dining table, the little girl got off the bed and followed him. After Ling Shen sat down, the little girl also moved a chair over and sat down at the small table.

She rested her chin on her hands, staring intently at Ling Shen: "Have you become mute again?"

Ling Shen ignored her.

When Ling Shen saw chicken wings in the food, he suddenly felt hungry. So, he reached for his fork and prepared to fork a piece of chicken wing to eat.

But as soon as he reached out, the little girl moved the small plate of chicken wings in front of him first.

Ling Shen frowned slightly and reached out again, but this time, the little girl moved the chicken wing to another place.

Ling Shen reached out again, and the little girl moved the chicken wing away again.

After repeating this several times, Ling Shen finally lost his patience.

He looked up at the little girl in front of him, and his calm eyes finally showed other emotions.

He was angry.

Faced with Ling Shen's anger, the little girl was not afraid at all; instead, she smiled with relief.

She pushed the chicken wing towards Ling Sheng, moved it gently, and withdrew her hand softly, saying, "I won't take it from you, you eat it."

The little girl withdrew her hand, stepped back a little, sat down in the chair, and continued to look at Ling Shen with her chin resting on her hand.

"You're just like the little wolf cub in my house. You won't listen to me when I talk to you nicely, and I have to discipline you physically."

Ling Shen reached out, forked a chicken wing, took a bite, and then heard the little girl's words.

His hand paused slightly as he mentally retorted to the little girl: Who keeps wolves at home? A little girl this young, let alone keeping wolves, would be terrified just by seeing one.

Ling Shen thought this to himself, but he didn't show it on his face at all.

Zhiyan rested her chin on her hand and looked at Ling Shen. Perhaps because she adhered to the fine tradition of not talking while eating or sleeping, she watched Ling Shen eat and finally became less noisy.

But after watching for a while, she spoke again.

She looked at the two egg tarts on the table and said, "The desserts today are especially delicious. I already had one, it would be a shame if you didn't try them."

Ling Shen focused on eating the chicken wing in his hand. After Zhiyan finished speaking, she waited quietly for his reply. However, to her disappointment, Ling Shen only paused slightly and then remained silent. He continued eating, and in the quiet space, the little girl could only hear the sound of his food being chewed.

The little girl saw that the bell didn't ring, so she reached out to grab the egg tart.

This time, Ling Shen didn't indulge her.

Just as the little girl reached out her hand, Ling Shen finished eating the chicken wing in his hand, leaving his fork free.

So Ling Shen tapped the little girl's hand with the fork in his hand.

The little girl winced in pain and quickly withdrew her hand.

The little girl covered her hand and looked at Ling Shen angrily, saying, "Why did you hit me?!"
