Chapter 24 Missed You Two Pigs
Pei Zhiyu squatted in the corridor and looked at his phone.
By the time the parent-teacher meeting ended, the sun had already set.
It's autumn now, and the temperature isn't too cold yet, but the leaves are already turning yellow.
Pei Zhiyu called Zheng Wei, but no one answered. He knew that she was probably sharing her "educational experience" with others.
Key middle schools have students, teachers and parents. Each parent is extremely concerned about their children's studies. After each parent-teacher meeting, they are reluctant to leave and will look for teachers, students with good grades and other parents to discuss educational experiences.
I would ask about everything from what cram school the child attends to what exercises he or she does, from what time he or she gets up and goes to bed to what midnight snack he or she makes for the child.
It seems that if you copy every aspect of a good student's eating, dressing, living, transportation and every move, your own child will be able to get the same results in the next test.
Pei Zhiyu's mother Zheng Wei is a warm-hearted person who is willing to share.
She boasted to others that when she was pregnant with Pei Zhiyu, she loved eating walnuts, thinking that like nourishes like, and that was why Pei Zhiyu was so smart.
She has always been strict with Pei Zhiyu since he was a child, so Pei Zhiyu has developed good habits and constantly strived for higher standards.
She firmly believes that her experience is effective, and Pei Zhiyu's achievements are the best example of her experience.
Every parent-teacher meeting is her “educational achievement report meeting”.
She spoke seriously and the other parents listened carefully. At every parent-teacher meeting, Zheng Wei would not leave without staying in school for an hour or two.
Pei Zhiyu opened WeChat and saw Lin Chongyang tagged him in the group.
Lin Chongyang: @Pei Zhiyu you don’t even know what you missed
Lin Chongyang: [Picture]
In the photo, the chicken rolls are piled up like a mountain.
Chen Huaiyu: You don’t even know what you’ve missed!
Pei Zhiyu smiled.
Pei Zhiyu: Did I miss you two pigs?
"Why can others report it, but you can't?"
A woman's sharp voice came from the other end of the corridor.
"Those with scores lower than yours can all go, but you can't. Why can't I go find your teacher?"
The woman kept chattering, and because her vision was blocked, she didn't notice that there was someone behind the pillar after turning two corners.
"Stop talking and go home, okay?" The girl's voice sounded familiar.
"Why can't I tell you? Does your teacher think that you can't do math well because you're a girl?"
Pei Zhiyu glanced sideways and saw that it was Jiang Shengnan from the next class.
Apart from occasionally discussing math problems in the group, he and Jiang Shengnan had little in common.
A girl who is always in a hurry, taciturn, either buried in solving questions or running, like a fully wound clock, if she stops, she will be wasted.
Run to ask the teacher questions, run to get water, run to eat.
Everyone in their class knows Jiang Shengnan.
I heard that she would return to the dormitory after the lights were turned off every day, would recite her lessons in the playground before six in the morning, and would wash her hair with cold water to stay awake.
Very hard, terribly hard.
Even though Pei Zhiyu considered herself diligent, it was hard to imagine how she persevered.
"Maybe the teacher thinks school classes are important and we need to lay a solid foundation first," Jiang Shengnan explained, "otherwise, we won't be able to learn."
Jiang Shengnan felt like she was about to collapse.
She knew that she was not smart enough and could only work harder than others to maintain grades that would barely satisfy Hu Hongyue.
She was actually very glad that Wang Guoxiong did not choose her, so she didn't have to think of other reasons to turn down the training class.
"Why can they do it, but you can't?" Hu Hongyue only keenly caught the last few words. She rambled on, "I know girls aren't as smart as boys, and studying in high school is just tough. So you have to work even harder. If your teacher doesn't let you apply, you'll just stop studying. Then how will you ever beat those boys in the exam? How can you compare to them when they start to work harder later on?"
"The top student in our grade is also a girl! Why can't she catch up?" Jiang Shengnan defended.
Hu Hongyue couldn't think of any rebuttal for a moment. She knew that what Jiang Shengnan said made sense, but she felt humiliated and became even angrier.
She slapped Jiang Shengnan on the back. "How dare you say that? Why can others participate but you can't? They all have two eyes, a mouth, and a brain. What do you lack compared to them? How dare you talk back? Am I not doing this for your own good? If I weren't your mother, would I be willing to take care of you? Why didn't your father come to the parent-teacher meeting for you?"
Hu Hongyue thought of the girl who shared her experience on the stage. She ranked first in her grade and stood on the podium confidently and without any stage fright.
Unlike her daughter, who kept her head down, hunched her back, stared at her toes when she walked, couldn't lift her legs, spoke incoherently, and couldn't say a word when hit with a stick.
Hu Hongyue shook off Jiang Shengnan's hand and said, "I have to go find your teacher. What's there to be afraid of? Look at you, how can you achieve anything by being so timid?"
"Jiang Shengnan." Pei Zhiyu interrupted the quarrel and pretended not to hear anything: "Hello, Auntie."
Jiang Shengnan was stunned for a moment.
She remembered that during the parent-teacher meeting, WeChat kept popping up message notifications, as if there was a chat in the small competition group.
If Pei Zhiyu were here...
She looked at the pillar that turned behind Pei Zhiyu and bit her upper lip tightly.
Hu Hongyue's face was grim. She knew the student in front of her probably heard their quarrel, so she said coldly, "Hello."
Pei Zhiyu felt annoyed, but his upbringing forced him to smile, making himself appear polite. "I'm Pei Zhiyu from Class 2. I'm in the same group with Jiang Shengnan, working on math problems."
Jiang Shengnan hurriedly said, "He ranked third in the grade last time. He teaches me."
Hu Hongyue's originally unfriendly expression softened visibly. "That's too much trouble. Thank you, classmate, Shengnan." She pulled Jiang Shengnan over and said, "Why don't you thank her?"
Jiang Shengnan just felt embarrassed.
Pei Zhiyu waved his hands hurriedly: "We are all classmates. Jiang also taught us."
The more Hu Hongyue looked at Pei Zhiyu, the more she liked him. She asked, "Hey classmate, auntie wants to ask you, do you have any tips for studying? Or any books you've made? Share them with our Shengnan."
The woman rubbed her hands nervously, no longer showing the arrogant and unreasonable attitude she had when she scolded Jiang Shengnan just now.
Jiang Shengnan lowered her head and dared not speak.
Pei Zhiyu adjusted his glasses and said, "Doing exercises is important, but I think you should get enough sleep first. If your brain is well rested, you can concentrate more on the lectures and study more efficiently. As for what book to read, I think it's enough to just thoroughly study the exercises in school."
Jiang Shengnan stared at Pei Zhiyu blankly.
He heard it.
"Oh." Hu Hongyue sighed, as if she was really worried about her daughter's studies: "She's not as smart as you. She still needs to do more exercises, she's a girl after all."
"Auntie, there's no difference in learning ability between boys and girls. Besides, the college entrance exam doesn't really test your IQ."
Pei Zhiyu checked the time and said, "I'm leaving now. See you after the holiday. Auntie, you should go back early too. It's hard to drive with so many people."
"Okay, okay." Hu Hongyue agreed: "Thank you."
Jiang Shengnan watched Pei Zhiyu's back and felt her eyes sore.
