“You got it. You brought everything the child needs. There might not be anything for the child in the car. And your dad didn’t have time to go buy it.”
"Mom, I'm so unfilial!" Liu Jianguo said, bursting into tears.
"What's the use of crying? Now you know you regret it? It's too late. Let me tell you, whether you get a divorce or stay together, you need to resolve this quickly. Don't keep dragging it out. Also, give them their money."
"Dad, that all belongs to our family. You and Mom worked so hard to earn it."
"That's because you're incompetent. If you hadn't been so indulgent in the first place, our family's money would still be ours."
"Dad, it's my fault for being useless and incompetent."
Liu Maocai ignored him, utterly disappointed by his eldest son's actions. If it weren't for his indecisiveness, this wouldn't have happened.
But they don't want to admit that they failed in their parenting.
Li Cuihua ate a bowl of porridge for dinner today. Liu Maocai was a little happier after that.
As long as I can eat, it means I'm healthy. But I absolutely can't have anything go wrong. What will I do for the rest of my life if I lose my spouse?
Liu Jianguo brought the child over around 8 PM, along with a cloth bag he had packed. There were just too many small things the child needed.
Fortunately, there weren't many people hospitalized. That night, Liu Maocai lay on another bed in the ward, while Li Cuihua slept with the child in her arms.
Liu Jianguo, however, did not go home but went straight back to the cotton mill. He simply did not want to face Yao Yufen.
The more I liked her before, the more I hate her now. That kind of disgust comes from the bottom of my heart; I don't even want to think about her anymore.
When we were dating, I liked her because she was both straightforward and gentle. Now that I have nothing, I feel like everything she did was an act.
After pushing Li Cuihua down that day, Yao Yufen hid and never dared to go home. She was absolutely furious. Liu Jianguo had lied to her. He had said he'd put the house in her name, but while the house was bought, he never showed her the property deed.
She didn't think much of it and didn't consider the possibility of it, believing that Liu Jianguo wouldn't lie to her. So she didn't care. Besides, he still hadn't given her the keys to the house there.
Two months later, the weather warmed up, and I thought I'd take the kids to see the house. But as soon as I mentioned it, Liu Jianguo wouldn't come back.
The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. Moreover, Liu Jianguo was becoming increasingly impatient with him. He gradually began to feel uneasy.
After searching the house, I found that I couldn't find the property deeds for either house.
When Liu Jianguo finally returned, no matter how much she asked, he wouldn't say anything, and the two had their first fierce argument since getting married.
As luck would have it, Liu Maocai and his wife decided to go to the capital first. They hadn't seen their grandson for three months and had been thinking about it, so they decided to visit the child first.
To her surprise, she arrived just in time to find the young couple fighting. Although they didn't physically shove each other, Yao Yufen kept pushing and shoving her son.
Seeing the elderly couple approach, Yao Yufen became even more agitated. She cried and screamed incessantly, and her blows became increasingly violent.
The child was awakened by the noise outside. He cried loudly inside. The child can crawl now, and Li Cuihua was worried. She immediately wanted to go inside to see her grandson.
When Yao Yufen saw that her mother-in-law was ignoring her and even wanted to see the child, she stopped her from coming in.
Liu Jianguo got angry and rushed into the house, took the child out, and put him in his father's arms.
Seeing that the child was alright, Li Cuihua finally confronted Yao Yufen.
Normally, Yao Yufen would have tolerated it, but today she was already angry and couldn't control her temper, so she started arguing with her mother-in-law.
They exchanged a few words. She noticed her father-in-law was holding the child and trying to leave, which only fueled her anger.
When Liu Jianguo saw Yao Yufen acting like a madwoman, he also got angry and slapped her across the face.
This stirred up a hornet's nest. Yao Yufen immediately started scratching Liu Jianguo's face, and Li Cuihua, seeing that her son's face was bleeding, quickly went to pull him away.
Yao Yufen felt that the mother and son were bullying her, so she shoved Li Cuihua hard. By sheer force, Li Cuihua hit her head on the cement ground beside the well and didn't get up.
Liu Jianguo rushed over, and Li Cuihua was stunned by the fall. No matter how the father and son called out to her, she remained pale and with her eyes closed. Liu Maocai put the child down, helped Li Cuihua up, and found a bump the size of a steamed bun on the back of her head. She wasn't breathing.
Now Yao Yufen was terrified, thinking that Li Cuihua had fallen to her death. She was so frightened that she ran out of the door, ignoring the crying child on the ground.
Five or six days had passed, and I hadn't heard any rumors, so I mustered up my courage and returned home. I discovered the locks had been changed, and I couldn't get in no matter what I did.
Yao Yufen was a smart woman and knew that this situation was really difficult to resolve. But then she remembered how Liu Jianguo had swindled her money, and she felt utterly foolish to have been deceived by such a simpleton.
She had always looked down on Liu Jianguo. If it weren't for his good job and her lack of knowledge about her family's reputation, she really wouldn't have chosen him.
She hadn't expected Li Cuihua and the others to be at the hospital. Actually, she was still uncertain and refused to think about it.
Having found the cotton mill, Liu Jianguo had already informed the gatekeeper that there was no way he would let her in.
Yao Yufen had no choice but to wait outside. But Liu Jianguo was on the night shift today; he slept in his dormitory during the day. She waited all day but didn't see him.
Yao Yufen gritted her teeth, knowing that even if she waited, it would be tomorrow morning.
I don't dare go back to my mother's house now, because they keep asking me for money.
Liu Jianguo left work early at six o'clock in the morning. Today, his parents and children were taking the 7:30 train to the capital, and he had to see them off.
When they arrived at the hospital, Li Cuihua had already fed the child, and the elderly couple had also eaten breakfast. Moreover, Liu Maocai had bought more than ten steamed buns and two kilograms of fried dough sticks at the hospital, which should last them for a while in the car.
Liu Jianguo carried the luggage, while Liu Maocai helped Li Cuihua, who was holding the child, as they headed to the train station.
Only after settling my parents and children in did I get off the train. Today I need to talk things out with Yao Yufen. It would be best if we could resolve this, so my parents can feel at ease when they return.
I ate breakfast outside. Then I went straight to the post office and dialed the phone number Zhang Hongmei had left. I didn't get back to the cotton mill until almost nine o'clock.
"Liu Jianguo. You didn't come to work?"
"Stop messing around, you're being disgusting. Let's go, let's find somewhere to talk."
Seeing Liu Jianguo looking at her with such disgust, Yao Yufen realized that things must have gotten much more complicated than she had imagined.
However, after listening to Liu Jianguo's words, he stopped making a fuss and followed behind him.
After walking for about ten minutes, the two arrived at an open space.
