Chapter 646 Recognizing Relatives

Beth smiled and sat down next to Huang Meihua. "Hmm, it smells delicious."

Zhang Hongmei wasn't particularly fond of the food on the table; she didn't like strong flavors, but as long as the guests liked it, that was fine. She served Annie a bowl of rice porridge, took one for herself, and gave each of them a meat pie.

They didn't eat any vegetables; they only ate these two dishes for one meal. It was mainly because they were too greasy, but the taste was really good. Even Annie ate a piece of meat pie.

Everyone else at the table was very satisfied. Zeng Zhongkang and his two companions each ate five meat pies.

The meat dishes on the table weren't eaten much, but the shrimp, jellyfish, and seaweed were all finished. Well, with such meat patties, who could possibly eat a lot of meat and fish?

After enjoying their meal, Beth McKenna and his wife exclaimed, "Xinyi, I can finally taste the flavors of home!"

"Sister Huang, if you like, come over for meals often, or I can ask Yunfang to help you."

“But no need. You’re heavily pregnant right now and need someone to take care of you. There are so many people at home waiting to eat. How can I take away what others want? Even if I get hungry while waiting, I’ll come over for dinner.”

"Hehe, you're welcome anytime."

"Xinyi, it's such a shame you can't attend the banquet tomorrow!"

"There are definitely regrets, but my health won't allow it, Sister Huang. I really look forward to this child."

He is the only person in this world I am related to by blood. I longed for his arrival, which is why I cherish him so much.

Huang Meihua patted Wang Xinyi's hand. She understood her completely. Her family had been destroyed, and she was all alone. Now that she finally had someone to rely on, how could she not cherish it?

“We all understand. Just take good care of yourself and don’t eat too much, otherwise it will be difficult when you give birth.”

"Yeah, I know, haha. Although I've never had a child before, I've taken care of quite a few pregnant women," Wang Xinyi said with a self-deprecating laugh.

"It's all in the past. Everything will be alright from now on. You have a man and children. Your good fortune came late, but it will definitely be the best."

The two sat on the sofa and chatted quietly. Zhao Tiancheng sat to one side, while the others went about their own business.

Beth McKen said hello and went to play games.

Zhang Hongmei coaxed Annie to read to her so she could take a nap later. Hearing the clatter of a keyboard in the study next door, she chuckled; she really was like a child at heart.

It was almost time, so I told Annie a bedtime story and overheard voices from next door.

"Beth, should we go back now? The driver is here."

"No, I want to play a little longer. Hongmei is such a talented girl. Meihua, do you want to try it? It's so much fun!"

"Hehe, if you like, play a little longer, but we have to leave in two hours."

"Okay, come and call me when the time comes." Beth McKen didn't even look up. Huang Meihua went downstairs helplessly and told the driver to wait.

An hour later, Zhang Hongmei woke Annie up and helped her wash up before the two went to the study.

"Grandpa, don't you want to rest for a while?"

"Go and rest after you pass this stage."

"Mom, is this what you meant by 'addicted' Grandpa?"

Zhang Hongmei smiled and said, "Yes, but Grandpa is getting old and his eyesight won't have any more problems, but the children won't."

“I know, Mom.”

The two walked downstairs hand in hand. Just then, Zeng Zhongkang came out.

"uncle!"

His perpetually icy face broke into an awkward smile, which he quickly suppressed, perhaps realizing he wasn't quite comfortable with. "Annie, hello, are you awake?"

"Um, Uncle, aren't you going to take a nap?"

"Yes, Uncle has developed a bad habit; he doesn't take a nap anymore."

"Want to come to your uncle's room to play games?"

Annie looked back at Zhang Hongmei, saw her mother nod, and happily ran down the stairs, startling the two adults.

“Annie, what you’re doing is very dangerous. If you fall and get hurt, you’ll be the one in pain,” Zhang Hongmei said sternly.

Annie stuck out her tongue. "Mom, I promise, there won't be a next time."

"Hmm, I'll see how you perform in the future."

The alarm was lifted, and Annie took Zeng Zhongkang's hand as they entered his room.

Now that Annie had Zeng Zhongkang, Zhang Hongmei returned to her bedroom and wrote a letter to Zhang Shouyi.

I explained everything that happened this morning to him in detail.

Just as Zhang Shouyi was about to enter the conference room, he felt the arrival of a letter: "Secretary Wu, please inform us that we will continue in half an hour." After saying that, he returned to his office.

After reading his wife's letter, he smiled, took off his glasses, and rubbed his temples.

The McCann family's intention was to win me over, so how could I let them down?

He picked up a pen to write a letter to his wife: "Honey, do you miss me? I've lost weight."

Okay, I know you're going to laugh at me again.

Everything is fine at home. Liujiatun has also delivered dried sweet potatoes, vermicelli, and a slaughtered sheep.

Grandpa's health has been exceptionally good lately, and he practices Tai Chi every day. His old comrades-in-arms all envy him, and some have even moved in with us.

There was another letter I received today, which I haven't read yet. Let me know if there's anything else.

"Since the McCann family has put in such a significant effort, how can I refuse their goodwill? You can tell them they can develop their business here, and I'll offer them the most favorable terms. As long as they don't go too far, I'll agree. Also, subtly inform them that we plan to develop some business in the US and are open to cooperation."

After writing, Zhang Shouyi crossed the river. He awaited his wife's reply.

Zhang Hongmei pulled out two letters. She opened Zhang Shouyi's letter, read it once, and thought, "What a cunning old fox!" Then she opened Liu Maocai's letter, and after reading it, she was so angry she wanted to punch him.

It turns out that Li Cun's child really was unwanted. They really got divorced. The woman didn't take anything and left on her own, without taking care of the poor child. Now he's at Liu Maocai's house.

Another issue is that Wang Hongxi wanted to resign from his position as village chief, but the old lady refused.

Zhang Hongmei immediately replied to Zhang Shouyi, "Brother Zhang, please send someone to pick up the child right away and have his father and mother's family sign a document stating that the child will have no relation to them from now on."

I need my third uncle to handle this; otherwise, with their kind of behavior, it'll never end. It's not that I care about the small amount of money; I just hate their ugly faces.

"I'll ask someone to raise the child for me, or if any of them are returning to the US, I can have them send him to me. Brother Zhang, I really love this child; he touched my heart the moment I saw him, so I absolutely must raise him. My heart aches for this child."
