Chen Yu skillfully parked the car, took out her newly bought bag, and opened the car door. She saw Shen Yan walking towards her. He was still the same as before, unchanged. She paused in her hand as she opened the car door, feeling a little nervous.
Clearly, she was overthinking it. Shen Yan acted as if he hadn't seen her at all and walked straight into the restaurant.
Chen Yu breathed a sigh of relief. She thought she would be so embarrassed that she would die on the spot when she was about to meet Shen Yan.
"Chen Yu!!!"
A familiar voice came from behind her. Chen Yu knew without turning around that it was her best friend from high school, Wang Yue.
"Ah, it's been so long! I missed you so much!" Wang Yue affectionately took Chen Yu's arm, and the two walked into the restaurant hand in hand.
Today is their first reunion in five years since graduating from high school. It would be a lie to say Chen Yu wasn't nervous. Her heart was pounding when she saw Chen Yan. It's true that your body doesn't lie when you like someone.
Wang Yue pushed open the door to the private room, where many people had already gathered, all of them familiar faces.
"Oh dear, Chen Yu and Wang Yue, you two are the slowest! You were always late when you were in school, and now you're late for gatherings too."
"Sorry for the traffic jam."
Chen Yu felt a little guilty. Actually, there was no traffic jam on her way here; in fact, she could say she had a smooth journey with all the green lights. She just wanted to wait for Wang Yue to come up with her, as it would be too embarrassing for her to come up alone.
"Alright, alright, now that everyone's here, let's take our seats."
Wang Yue pulled Chen Yu to sit next to Jiang Yang. The three of them were practically inseparable back in high school.
"Hey Chen Yu, did you see that? Shen Yan has become even more handsome."
Wang Yue nudged Chen Yu with her shoulder and excitedly gestured to her with her eyes to indicate Chen Yan's location. Chen Yu nodded blankly. How could she not know? Jiang Yang followed Wang Yue's gaze and indeed saw Chen Yan sitting next to Li Na.
"Come on, let me raise a glass first. It's been so long since we've seen each other. We've all made great strides in society. You've all worked hard!"
"Oh my, Young Master Hao, you're really becoming more and more like a leader."
One sentence made everyone burst into laughter, and everyone raised their glasses to toast.
Chen Yu didn't have much of an appetite. She ate a few bites and then put down her chopsticks. Liu Zhihang, who was sitting next to her, kept pulling Chen Yu to drink. He had liked Chen Yu back in high school, but when he couldn't win her over, he angrily called her a gold digger. And now she's still the same.
"Chen Yu, want to have a drink?"
"I'm not drinking anymore. I can't drink much anyway, and this is my limit."
"Hey, it's okay, you've had too much to drink, I'll take you home!"
Liu Zhihang was getting increasingly outrageous, practically glued to Chen Yu. Luckily, Wang Yue reacted quickly, saying, "Old Yu, come with me to the bathroom!" With that, she pulled Chen Yu away without looking back.
Wang Yue came out of the restroom, frantically shaking the water droplets off her hands. "That Liu Zhihang is a scoundrel. I think he's up to no good."
"Yes, I heard he's already married, and his wife is from the countryside, I think."
Chen Yu heard this from someone else; apparently, Liu Zhihang thought that women from the countryside were stupid, and that marrying one meant there was no need to worry about her causing trouble.
"How disgusting," Wang Yue muttered, pouting.
Chen Yu's head was a little dizzy. "You go back first, I'll stay here for a while."
"Are you sure? You're here all alone?"
"Okay, don't worry, I'll take a break, wash my face and then go back."
Wang Yue looked at Chen Yu with a suspicious look, and after confirming that Chen Yu was perfectly fine on her own, she turned and left the bathroom. Chen Yu splashed water on her face again. Luckily, she wasn't wearing makeup today, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to wash her face. She took out her phone from her pocket and glanced at it. It was already almost 10 PM. This meal had taken a really long time. She would have to find a designated driver later.
Chen Yu stuffed her phone back into her jeans pocket, took out a few tissues to wipe her hands clean before leaving the restroom. As soon as she stepped out, her mouth was covered. Fear made her instinctively tremble, and she frantically patted the person behind her.
"Hmph, Chen Yu, let's see what you're up to! Today I'm going to fucking take you down!"
It was Liu Zhihang! Chen Yu recognized the owner of the voice. Liu Zhihang dragged her into another private room. In the darkness, Chen Yu was even more terrified. She struggled desperately, but the difference in strength between men and women was too great. She couldn't break free from Liu Zhihang's hand at all, and tears began to fall.
Liu Zhihang threw Chen Yu onto the table, her head hitting the corner squarely. A pair of hands began tearing at her clothes. In a panic, she fumbled around on the table, her hand reaching for an ashtray. Chen Yu raised the ashtray and smashed it against Liu Zhihang's head. "Ah!" A scream reached Chen Yu's ears. Just when she thought Liu Zhihang would run away in fright, a slap landed on her face, followed by a punch.
Chen Yu completely lost consciousness.
She opened her eyes and tried to stand up, but her feet hit the desk, and the pain made her sit back down.
"Chen Yu? Is there a problem?" The English teacher tapped the blackboard with chalk.
For a moment, Chen Yu was stunned. She looked around at the scene and realized that this was Central China!
"Teacher...I'm sorry, I'm okay."
The English teacher pushed up her glasses in exasperation, and just as she was about to continue the lesson, the bell rang. She threw down the chalk in her hand, said, "Fine, class dismissed," and left the classroom.
Wang Yue tugged at Chen Yu's sleeve, "What are you doing? You're sneaking off to sleep and making such a racket!"
"No, oh dear, I had a nightmare."
Chen Yu's eyes were still a little dazed. Looking at Wang Yue in front of her, her first reaction was how innocent Wang Yue was. She couldn't help but reach out and pinch her cheek. "You're so innocent, hahaha."
