After paying, Chen Yu took the ice cream and helped Shen Yan eat it as they walked home. The two remained silent the whole way.
When they got home, Chen Kang was no longer in the living room; only Li Ziyun was there. She saw the two of them return and anxiously stood up. She touched Chen Yu's face and asked, "Does it still hurt? Mom has already talked to Dad. Don't be angry with him."
"I'm fine, Mom. I won't hold it against him. I'm an adult who doesn't hold grudges."
Hearing Chen Yu's words, Li Ziyun chuckled, inquired about Shen Yan's condition, and then went upstairs first. The little one didn't need to be coaxed, but the older one still needed to be.
Chen Kang sat on the bed with his arms crossed, not even checking his phone.
"Don't be angry, honey. The child didn't do it on purpose."
"Sigh, I'm just afraid she'll go astray, and if something really happens, we're doomed."
"Yes, yes, you're right."
Chen Kang softened his attitude. He didn't really want to treat Chen Yu like this. After all, she was his only precious daughter, and he would feel bad if he hurt her.
"Fine, fine, let her do as she pleases. I'll keep a closer eye on her from now on." In the end, he gave in.
Chen Yu escorted Shen Yan back to his room before taking a shower and returning to his own.
Several messages popped up on my phone. They were from Jiang Yang in a small group chat. He was asking Chen Yu and Wang Yue if they were going to visit him tomorrow.
Chen Yu hesitated before typing a few words.
[Fish: I can't go. My dad wants me to stay home and do my homework.]
After much deliberation, Chen Yu decided to make Chen Kang take the blame. With that said, Wang Yue and Jiang Yang couldn't say anything and could only regretfully say that they would come again next time.
Chen Yu did not reply; she put down her phone and stared blankly at the ceiling.
If she doesn't go out tomorrow, what should she do at home? Keep Shen Yan company while he sunbathes?
The thought suddenly popped into her head, surprising even herself. Right now, her mind was completely blank except for Shen Yan.
Chen Yu shyly pulled the blanket over her head and fell asleep soon after.
early morning.
Chen Yu was awakened by the chirping of birds outside the window. She was a little annoyed, got up and opened the window to take a look. Sure enough, there was already a bird's nest. She pinched her brow, feeling a headache coming on. She couldn't bring herself to destroy the bird's nest.
She washed up and went downstairs. Only Chen Kang was awake. He was cooking eggs in the kitchen by himself. Watching his busy figure, Chen Yu felt a little awkward.
Chen Yu turned to go upstairs, but Chen Kang's voice came from behind her. "Come and eat the eggs when you wake up," Chen Yu said. She had no choice but to return to the dining table, where two eggs soon appeared in front of her.
She silently finished the egg, and Chen Kang heated up a cup of milk for her. "Do your homework at home this afternoon, and I'll take you out for dinner tonight."
"Okay, I understand." Chen Yu was still angry with him, so her response was indifferent.
Chen Kang didn't say anything more. After cleaning up the dishes, he went to work. Chen Yu finished eating and went upstairs. She looked at the alarm clock on the table and realized it was only a little past eight in the morning. She sat down in her chair and felt worried.
I don't really have the desire to play games.
On a whim, she took out her summer homework from her schoolbag, eager to do it.
Half an hour passed.
Chen Yu threw down her pen in exasperation. She hadn't expected the high school questions to be so difficult. She stared at the alarm clock in despair. Half an hour had passed, and she still hadn't solved a single problem.
It's really tough on her brain.
Chen Yu decisively put down her pen. She decided to give up and lay on the bed to open the game.
As soon as Li Ziyun woke up, she knocked on Chen Yu's door. "Yu Yu, are you awake yet?"
"Mom's awake, what's wrong?"
Li Ziyun opened the door and went in, and saw Chen Yu lying on the bed playing games. "Yu Yu, Mom has to tell you something. School starts soon, so you need to catch up on your studies. Don't spend all day on your phone."
"Mmm, I understand," Chen Yu replied somewhat perfunctorily.
"If you don't know, you should ask Brother Shen Yan, did you hear me?"
"I heard you."
Hearing Chen Yu's reply, Li Ziyun closed the door with a sigh. This child is really something, always distracted from her studies. Li Ziyun then went to check on Chen Yan's room and found that he was not there.
"Chen Yan? Where have you gone, Chen Yan!"
Hearing Li Ziyun's shout, Chen Yu turned down her phone volume. Listening to the commotion outside, she sat up and opened the door. "Mom, what's wrong?"
"Oh dear, I don't know where your brother Chen Yan has run off to."
Li Ziyun hurriedly went downstairs, and Chen Yu followed. She had gotten up so early, but she hadn't heard Shen Yan get up at all. How could he have disappeared?
Chen Yu followed Li Ziyun around and searched for a while before finding that Shen Yan was not at home. Chen Yu immediately quit the game and called Shen Yan, but the phone kept ringing and no one answered.
"I didn't answer. I'll go out and look for it."
Chen Yu put on a coat and went downstairs without even changing his slippers, because he was afraid something might happen to Shen Yan if he was out alone.
Li Ziyun originally wanted to go out and search as well, but Chen Yu stopped her. Li Ziyun hadn't had a proper rest these past few days, as she had too many things to worry about. Chen Yu was young and fast, so it would be more convenient for her to go downstairs and search alone.
Chen Yu jogged around the neighborhood and searched for Chen Yan, but couldn't find him. Her heart jumped into her throat.
"Chen Yan!" she shouted as she ran, then took out her phone to call Chen Yan.
Exhausted, Chen Yu stood at the entrance of the security room. After thinking it over, she realized that if she couldn't find it, she would have to check the surveillance footage.
"B-Big brother...help me check the surveillance footage, I need to find someone," Chen Yu said breathlessly. The security guard inside was a young man who looked at Chen Yu with a terrified expression.
