Chapter 26 Other People's Daughters

“Miss Huo, the kidnapping happened first. If I hadn’t arrived in time, you probably would have slashed Bai Ling’s face.”

Xie Lingqin walked over.

Huo Yanzi was so flustered that even her hairpins were in disarray.

At this moment, Bai Yu had already helped her sister up, glaring hatefully at Huo Yanru, "Miss Huo, tell me, tell me, should I slash your left cheek or your right cheek?"

"You, you dare?"

Bai Yu raised her hand to slap him, but Xie Lingqin stopped her.

Bai Yu was puzzled when Xie Ling stared at Bai Ling's swollen face and asked, "Who hit your face?"

Bai Ling met Xie Lingqin's clear, piercing gaze. After the initial shock, she felt a complex mix of fear and unease. Pointing at Huo Yanru, she said, "It's her."

"oh."

Xie Lingqin nodded, and then raised her hand.

"Smack—"

The sound of a light, crisp slap was clear and resounding.

Huo Yan's face was twisted from the beating, and she looked at Xie Lingqin in disbelief.

"This was for Bai Ling. I only slapped you once because my hands are tired lately. I didn't ask you for interest, but that was out of respect for Lord Huo," Xie Lingqin said. After speaking, she nodded to Bai Yu, and the group strode out together.

The courtyard was quiet and deserted. The maids inside could only watch helplessly, intimidated by Xie Lingqin's imposing manner, and dared not even breathe loudly.

"Waaah..." Huo Yanru suddenly burst into tears when the person had almost disappeared from sight.

"You know how to cry? You can still cry."

A roar came from the shadows, and the Prefect of the Capital City then led his men out.

Huo Yanru was stunned for a moment when she saw the Prefect of the Capital, but hope rekindled on her face. She hurriedly ran out of the house, "Father, Father, Xie Lingqin just tried to kill me with her men. Please send someone to arrest her."

"You arrested her people, and she only slapped you once. You should have stopped now." The Prefect of the Capital glared at Huo Yanru with a look of utter disappointment. "How could I have given birth to such a fool? From this day forward, you shall remain in seclusion and reflect on your mistakes. You shall not leave the house without my permission."

After the Prefect of the Capital finished speaking, he became furious and turned to leave.

"Father, your daughter has been bullied, and you won't even avenge her. Are you afraid of the General's Mansion, afraid of that Xie Lingqin?"

Huo Yanru suddenly shouted.

The Prefect of the Capital stopped in his tracks and turned around. His robes seemed to be filled with a fierce aura. His angry gaze glared at Huo Yanru, and he pointed at her with his finger, saying, "You really deserve the title of idiot."

"Master, what are you saying? What did Yanru do wrong? Oh dear, my daughter, why is your face so swollen..."

Just then, outside the courtyard, Lady Jingzhao Yin hurriedly walked in, and as soon as she entered, tears began to fall.

So the mother and daughter hugged each other tightly and cried as if they had suffered a great injustice.

"Enough!"

The usually good-tempered Prefect of the Capital finally lost his temper. He pointed at the sobbing Huo Yanru, his face trembling, "Fool, fool! Do you think I came out of the shadows just now? It's because I've been here all along."

"Ah?" Huo Yanru stopped crying as soon as she heard this, but then burst into tears again. "Ah, Father, you didn't help me at all, and you just watched your daughter get beaten by that Xie Lingqin."

"You, you, you..."

The Prefect of the Capital was furious, his voice weak with rage. "If I hadn't been in the shadows, I don't know if you'd still be alive. You dared to kidnap someone and even tried to slash their face. The only reason you're still alive is because Miss Xie did it for my sake. Otherwise, do you think you'd still be crying here?"

These words struck a chord, and the mother and daughter, who had been huddled together and weeping, finally regained some of their senses.

"Father, what do you mean?"

"From now on, you shall behave yourselves and not have any unfounded thoughts. From now on, when you see Miss Xie, you shall take a detour. And you all..." The Prefect of the Capital pointed to the servants around him, "No one is allowed to utter a single word about what happened today."

The Prefect of the Capital was so angry that his stubble grew out. He left with a single sentence, rubbing his forehead as he walked out.

He originally intended to have someone escort Xie Lingqin back to the general's mansion, but when the person who escorted her returned, he told him that Xie Lingqin had delivered a message to him.

The gist of it is that she wants to help a friend save someone, and in return, he will turn a blind eye to things later. Of course, she won't make things difficult for him.

He was still frowning and deep in thought, not quite understanding yet.

With Xie Lingqin's abilities, why would she need to be so serious when rescuing someone...?

Until he heard the visitor say that Miss Xie and the manager of Tianxia Yiwei had entered the mansion and headed straight for Huo Yanru's courtyard...

He immediately ordered that the matter be kept quiet, and he and his men hid in the shadows. Therefore, he heard every word his daughter uttered in the room clearly.

Truly, they are more than capable of ruining things than accomplishing them.

Oh! All the smart and sensible daughters are always someone else's.

Meanwhile, in the shadows of the Prefect's residence, a figure silently flashed past as the Prefect stormed off in a huff.

...

Xie Lingqin, Bai Yu, and Bai Ling were not far from the residence of the Prefect of Jingzhao.

Tinghai descended from the sky and bowed to Xie Lingqin. "Reporting to Miss, as you predicted, the Jingzhao Yin's residence is in chaos. However, Lord Huo is a wise man and has ordered that this matter not be discussed."

"Sigh." Xie Lingqin sighed, looking in the direction of the Prefect of Jingzhao. "This Lord Huo is an honest man, but he's just as stupid as Huo Yanru."

“To have such audacity as to kidnap someone in an attempt to frame you, Miss Huo, I think Miss Huo isn’t so stupid after all,” Zihe said from the side. But as soon as she finished speaking, she saw her mistress and Baiyu exchange a glance, their eyes filled with frost.
