Chapter 40: No Mouth
Early in the morning, Wen Wan walked out of the room with dark circles under her eyes.
Chen Zhou was watering flowers in the yard and was stunned when he saw her appearance.
"Sister Xiaowan, you didn't sleep well?"
Wen Wan wanted to cry but had no tears. She had so many feelings at the moment and felt at a loss as to how to start.
"Don't mention it."
Maybe it was Winn's sudden hug that really scared her.
She had nightmares all night. In her dreams, one moment Winn was chasing her for a hug, and the next moment she was inexplicably tied up in a bridal sedan.
"By the way, where's Winn? Is he still awake?"
Chen Zhou looked puzzled. "He's not in the room. I went to call him just now, but there was no one in his room."
Wen Wan paused, "Not in the room? Then where could he go?"
"How about I go look for it?" Chen Zhou suggested.
Wen Wan hesitated for a moment and said, "Let's split up and look for it. It will be faster this way. Dinner will be served soon."
The side yard was not very big. Chen Zhou went east and Wen Wan went west. After a while, they searched everywhere they could but still couldn't find anyone.
"He wouldn't just leave without saying goodbye, would he?"
Wen Wan shook her head. "Impossible. Yesterday he was afraid that I wouldn't want him anymore. How could he leave on his own today?"
Chen Zhou speculated, "Did he go back to the roast lamb shop? The boss almost beat him to death, and he's not stupid, so he probably won't go back."
Wen Wan: "Are you sure you've searched everywhere?"
Chen Zhou thought for a moment and said, "There is a place, but no one should go there."
"Where?"
Chen Zhou: "The old stable. Brother Chai used to raise horses there, but later the horses died of illness, and the stable became empty. The stable is in a remote area, so usually no one goes there."
"Let's go and take a look."
Wen Wan asked Chen Zhou to lead the way, and the two walked towards the stable.
From a distance, I heard a loud "boom" sound, as if something collapsed.
Her expression hardened and she quickened her pace.
Just after turning the corner, she saw Shen Yu sitting in a wheelchair with a gloomy face.
Wen En knelt in front of Shen Yu, Shen Yu's hand was on his neck. Perhaps because of the difficulty in breathing, his face was flushed and the veins on his neck were exposed.
Next to them, Kaneki was holding a long sword, with the tip of the sword pointing directly in the direction of Winn, as if he would attack without hesitation if Winn dared to move.
"stop!"
Wen Wan rushed in front of the two men, grabbed Shen Yu's arm and pulled him back, "Captain Zhou! Let him go!"
Shen Yu's pupils were dim, and he glanced at her. He seemed to hesitate for a moment before slowly releasing his strength.
Winn was able to catch his breath, and after taking a deep breath, he couldn't help but cough.
Wen Wan saw how miserable he was, and her face darkened. She turned around and growled angrily:
"Captain Zhou, what on earth do you want to do?"
Since they met, the gentleness in Shen Yu's eyes has always been intelligent and playful. Even when she gets angry, she puffs out her cheeks and looks as cute as a little squirrel.
He had never seen her so angry.
For a moment, Shen Yu was stunned.
"What do you think I will do to him?" Shen Yu stared at her coldly.
Wen Wan felt a little uneasy when she saw his eyes, but she said stubbornly:
"I don't know what you want to do, but I believe what I see! If I had been a step later, would he have died in your hands?"
"What crime has he committed that would make you, Captain Zhou, want to take his life?"
"Or is it that a slave's life is nothing in your eyes, Captain Zhou, so you can kill him whenever you want?"
Perhaps the scene just now was too shocking for her. She had no time to think and vented her anger all at once.
She questioned one after another, causing the light in Shen Yu's eyes to fade away little by little.
It also gradually extinguished his original urge to explain.
"Oh," Shen Yu rolled his eyes at her, "In your eyes, do I treat human life as worthless as grass?"
Wen Wan pursed her lips and said nothing.
Shen Yu called out with a cold face, "Jin Mu, let's go."
Jin Mu looked at him, then at Wen Wan, "Captain..."
"I said go, can't you hear me?"
Shen Yu's sharp gaze swept over, scaring Jin Mu so much that he shuddered suddenly.
The general was really angry this time.
Jinmu didn't dare to say anything more, and accepted the order in a deep voice, "Yes!"
Jinmu pushed Shen Yu away.
Wen Wan looked at their departing backs for a long time, unable to look away. It was not until Wen En tugged at her sleeve that she came back to her senses.
"Are you okay?" Wen Wan asked softly.
Winn shook his head and timidly pressed himself against her.
Wen Wan was preoccupied with something and didn't notice his little movement. She asked again, "What happened just now? Don't tell me word for word. I know you can speak normally."
Her expression was serious, very different from her usual smiling face.
Wen En hesitated for a moment before saying, "They brought me here and asked me where I was from, what my name was, and what my purpose was in approaching you."
Upon hearing this, Wen Wan frowned tightly.
Winn: "Sister, I didn't approach you on purpose."
"I know."
Wen Wan sighed weakly. In the roast lamb shop, his desperate look was real.
How can a person who doesn't even have the will to live have the mind to deliberately approach others?
She patted Winn's shoulder soothingly, "Okay, let's go back."
"Yeah." Winn responded, helping her stand up by holding her arm, and looking at her cautiously from time to time.
The more cautious he was, the more distressed Wen Wan felt.
"Winn, don't be afraid. What happened just now was not your fault. He was just too suspicious."
Wen Wan helped him walk back, walked a few steps, and then stopped again.
Winn looked at her puzzledly.
Wen Wan said softly, "Wen En, actually...Captain Zhou isn't a bad person. He might just be trying to scare you, he probably doesn't really mean to kill you."
After calming down, she quickly figured out Shen Yu's actions.
Just now, he was angry and stubborn, not even bothering to explain, so she lost her composure in the moment.
If you think about it carefully, if he really wanted to kill Winn, there was no need for a half-crippled man like him to do it himself. Kaneki could have killed him with just one sword.
Winn didn't expect that after what happened just now, she would still speak for the man.
His eyes darkened and he murmured, "Oh."
Wen Wan patted his head again and said with a smile, "Our Wen En is the best behaved boy. How about I take you to buy some delicious cakes later?"
Winn nodded, "Okay."
Wen Wan suddenly remembered something, "Oh right, why did the stable suddenly collapse just now?"
"I pushed it," Winn said casually.
"Oh... huh?" Wen Wan's face was filled with suspicion. "You pushed it? You have skinny arms and legs, how could you push the house down? Could it be... that you know martial arts?"
