Chapter 203 A Minor Trouble in the Separate Courtyard (Part 1)

The assassination attempt on two princes outside the capital alarmed Emperor Kangxi, who was furious and ordered the Fourth Prince and the Thirteenth Prince to lead the guards to capture the assassins.

At that time, Nan Yi was arguing with Shisan.

“I’ve already mentioned this to Ninth Brother. You don’t know the details of Xu Huaiyu’s matter, but we have our own arrangements,” Thirteen patiently explained.

“Even a pig wouldn’t believe that.” Nan Yi scoffed. “Eighth Master just told Ninth Master that no one outside knew about their trip outside the manor. The only suspicious thing is that they ran into Xu Huaiyu outside the manor. What a coincidence, isn’t it?”

Xu Huaiyu is a ticking time bomb. I don't know what they were thinking, keeping such a dangerous person by their side.

If Fourth Uncle and Thirteen and the others wanted to scheme against Xu Huaiyu, didn't they make some other arrangements?

"Since you knew they had problems, why didn't you send someone to monitor him?"

"Yes, I've been left behind," Thirteen said dejectedly.

He underestimated Xu Huaiyu's abilities; within just a few hours, news arrived that his eighth and ninth brothers had been assassinated.

Thirteen sighed softly, looking annoyed. He paced back and forth in the room with his hands behind his back. “I had people investigate Xu Huaiyu. He seems to have appeared out of thin air. There is no scholar named Xu Huaiyu in Jiangsu and Zhejiang. After arriving in the capital, he acted mysteriously, but his subordinates couldn’t find anything. Isn’t that strange? That’s why my fourth brother and I didn’t take action.”

Nan Yi rested his chin on his hand, pondering with his head down. Even with the abilities of Fourth Uncle and Thirteen, they couldn't find out Xu Huaiyu's background. This Xu Huaiyu was truly formidable and unexpected.

Thirteen has been passively investigating others by constantly following behind them. Why not take the initiative? Take the initiative. Nan Yi tapped her forehead, feeling that she had overlooked something.

The time in Shicheng, those men in black, and the men in black this time, they… “Oh, I knew it.”

Nan Yi exclaimed in surprise, slamming his hand on the table as he remembered.

"The men in black, their martial arts moves are the same as the ones I encountered in Shicheng that night." She stood up excitedly, so excited that she forgot her physical discomfort and fell back into her chair.

A scream rang out, "Ahhh!" Nan Yi clutched his buttocks in agony, feeling excruciating pain.

"Fourth Sister-in-law?" Thirteen was startled and came over to help her.

"What are you doing?" Yinzhen asked, his brows furrowed as he looked at the two people in the room.

"You're here. I have something to tell you, Thirteen. Get out of my way." She pushed Thirteen aside and stood up, holding onto the table.

Nan Yi was so calm that Yinzhen's words of reprimand stuck in his throat, and he even felt ashamed of the sudden anger that had arisen within him.

Thirteen stepped back a few paces, nodded to his elder brother, and said with a normal expression, "Fourth Brother, Fourth Sister-in-law seems to be feeling unwell."

Yinzhen relaxed his brow, hummed in agreement, walked to Nan Yi's side, and asked softly, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Nan Yi glared at him irritably, "Who did this? Help me inside. Thirteen, come too. I have something very important to tell you, it's related to this assassination attempt."

“If it’s against the rules, just tell the master. Thirteenth Brother is waiting outside.” Yinzhen picked her up and went into the inner room. Nan Yi rolled her eyes at him and muttered, “Old-fashioned.”

"You still need me to teach you the meaning of avoiding suspicion."

"..."

Can she say that she forgot when she got excited?

“I suspect that both assassination attempts were related to him. The men in black we encountered in Shicheng are the same group of men in black who assassinated Eighth Master and Ninth Master. They use the same martial arts style. Coincidentally, their targets were you brothers. Do you think it's possible…”

So, the investigation yielded no results, simply because Xu Huaiyu's target had always been them, and he and Thirteen had made the mistake of keeping things hidden from view.

Get close to them, befriend Thirteen, and then wait for an opportunity to assassinate them.

He was even more curious about Xu Huaiyu's true identity.

Yinzhen tucked the blanket around her, gently stroked Nan Yi's forehead, and said with tender eyes, "I heard from my eighth and ninth brothers that they narrowly escaped the assassination attempt thanks to you. Yi'er, you are a lucky star."

Yi'er's temperament had always given him a headache. His mother had long harbored resentment towards her, and his father, the Emperor, who valued rules the most, had inexplicably indulged her. If it were anyone else, his father might not have been able to tolerate it.

But the worry in his heart never subsided, and he was always concerned that one day she would cause some trouble again.

She had saved herself and Thirteen, and had also saved the lives of Eighth and Ninth Brothers. With these two life-saving talismans, no matter how much trouble she caused in the future, her life would not be in danger.

"I'm talking to you about something serious," Nan Yi said reproachfully, swatting his hand away. "I actually have an idea that can help you deal with Xu Huaiyu, but I don't know if you're willing to cooperate."

Seeing her smug expression, Yinzhen affectionately pinched the tip of her nose, "I know very well what you're thinking. If you're going to help me, then just focus on healing your injuries."

"You know? You're not a tapeworm in my stomach, what do you know... Ah~" Nan Yi rubbed his forehead, which had been suddenly attacked.

Yinzhen withdrew his hand, his gaze stern and cold. "Watch your mouth."

Nan Yi pouted and muttered, "Okay."

“Your thoughts are written all over your face. I don’t even need to guess. You want me, Eighth Brother, Ninth Brother, and Thirteenth Brother to stay in the villa as bait. That’s too deliberate. Xu Huaiyu isn’t stupid. He might not fall for it.”

“No, I believe he will.” Nan Yi disagreed with his opinion.

"He caused such a commotion in the capital and failed repeatedly. He must be afraid that his whereabouts will be exposed. After several unsuccessful assassinations, he might be desperate and make a last-ditch effort."

Her words made sense, and Yinzhen leaned against Nan Yi's side, frowning in deep thought.
