Yinzhen's heart skipped a beat, a sense of foreboding creeping in. But after hearing the old nanny's few words, his heart sank to the bottom.
"In addition, Her Majesty has requested the Emperor's decree to temporarily strip Tong Yilan of her position as a secondary consort and demote her to a concubine. The decree will be issued from the palace."
Su Peisheng silently took two steps back, his heart pounding. Judging from his master's expression, he knew that he was furious.
Yinzhen felt a nameless fire churning his brain, and his chest and internal organs felt like they were being burned by flames. He felt wronged even as a concubine, let alone as a secondary consort.
This wasn't the first time she'd insulted him; she'd even used the term "dog couple" to describe him, earning her a slap in return. This time, she'd demoted him completely. Phew—good, this lesson was severe enough.
The study was eerily quiet; you could hear a pin drop. Just then, Quanfu knocked on the door to announce that the concubine had returned. A gust of wind blew past, and Su Peisheng blinked, only to catch a glimpse of his master's hurried back.
Wanyue Pavilion
Nan Yi repeatedly inquired about Qiao'er's injuries. After receiving assurances from Physician Liu, he felt relieved and, knowing that she needed to rest, he glanced at her briefly before retreating.
Several maids were overjoyed to see that their mistress was alright and surrounded her. She responded with a light smile. Before they could ask her any questions, Yinzhen suddenly lifted the curtain and came in. He rushed in front of her, pulled her into his arms, and held her down tightly, so tightly that Nan Yi could not breathe, but he still did not let go.
After a short while, a soft voice whispered in my ear, "You're back."
There was no questioning about where he had gone or why he hadn't returned; all that was said was that he had returned.
The gentle breeze and drizzle did not stir any emotion in Nan Yi. Her face remained calm as she lightly touched the soft muscles in his waist with two fingers, startling Yin Zhen so much that he protected his waist with one hand. She took the opportunity to step out of his embrace and walk towards the bed. Before she could take a step, she was picked up horizontally and gently placed on the bed.
She simply lay on her side, ignoring him. She found even looking at him tiring. Without Xiao Qiao, she really didn't want to step through this door so soon. Ignoring the movements beside her, Nan Yi closed her eyes and pretended to sleep. But her ignoring him didn't mean that Yinzhen had given up.
She was pulled into his arms and couldn't break free, so she said softly, "It hurts."
Yinzhen grew anxious and stood up, urgently asking, "Where does it hurt? I must summon the imperial physician."
Nan curled her lip, "You know I'm in pain all over."
Yinzhen felt a slight choking, his body stiffening. He knew that the remaining poison in her body had not been cleared, and she was always inexplicably in pain. The imperial physician said that the remaining poison had corroded her tendons and internal organs, damaging her vital energy, and that she needed to rest and recuperate.
