Chapter Thirty-Eight: Robbery in the Dark

Upon hearing this, the Ninth Prince's face turned ashen. Sure enough, he heard a faint sound of tearing fabric coming from behind the curtain, along with the grinding of teeth.

He felt a chill run down his spine, pulled the woman up, and said angrily, "I told you to get up and get out of here right now, do you hear me?"

It's all nonsense, just ruining his plans. And then I thought of the person behind the curtain. Today is an unlucky day, how did Nan Yi find this time to come looking for me?

The woman suddenly woke up. Her master's eyes were bloodshot and his face was extremely pale. She reacted instantly, hurriedly put on her outer robe, and staggered out of the bedroom with the rest of her clothes in her arms.

The Ninth Prince stood there, sitting awkwardly on the edge of the bed, rubbing his forehead in distress. How could he explain this to her? Sigh—he was so anxious.

He slowly moved behind the curtain, lifted it, and saw Nan Yi gritting his teeth, grinning, his fine white teeth grinding together as if he wanted to bite him to death to vent his anger.

"...I had some drinks at Eighth Brother's residence and haven't seen you lately, so..." Yes, drowning his sorrows in alcohol, Ninth Prince explained in a low voice, then stopped mid-sentence upon seeing Nan Yi's fiery gaze.

He was actually used to sleeping alone and rarely had his concubines or wives sleep with him after serving him. Today, he accidentally got drunk and fell into a deep sleep, forgetting about this incident, but Nan Yi came looking for him.

No matter what you say, he was still at fault for showing her such an unbearable scene; she was still an unmarried woman.

Actually, aside from feeling a little awkward about which of the Ninth Princes slept with, Nan Yi had no other feelings. It was just like how the Fourth Prince slept with his wives and concubines. They weren't the men she was going to spend her life with, so why should she care?

But tonight, she came with a purpose. The more guilty the Ninth Prince seemed, the easier it would be for her to make demands.

Nan Yi feigned displeasure and walked straight outside with a grumpy expression. When the Ninth Prince saw that she was about to leave, he paced around anxiously and hurriedly said, "Are you going?" He grabbed her slender waist in a panic, but Nan Yi shook him off and rushed out.

"Nan Yi..."

"Of course, I'm going home..."

"You're only just arriving..."

Do you think I can stand here?

The Ninth Prince lowered his head dejectedly and followed behind her, sighing...

Nan Yi walked to the outer room, a hint of a smile flashing in her eyes, but unfortunately the Ninth Prince didn't see it.

She spotted the jade-green cabbage at a glance, grabbed it, and said, "I'll take this one. Pay me for my emotional distress, humph—"

She couldn't come for nothing. As the saying goes, a thief never leaves empty-handed. Pshaw, she's not a thief; she'll take it openly and honestly.

The Ninth Prince's eyes lit up, his gaze flashing as if he had thought of something. "Wait a moment," he said, turning and going into the inner room. A moment later, he came out and handed Nan Yi a sandalwood and gemstone makeup box. "Here you go."

Nan Yi took it with a puzzled look, opened it casually, and her eyes instantly sparkled like stars as she exclaimed with delight, "It's so beautiful, I love it!"

Inside the box was a pair of white jade bracelets. Under the light, they seemed to flow like water, and they felt warm to the touch. Even a country bumpkin like Nan Yi, who didn't know much about jade, would know that these were definitely high-quality items.

“This is a top-grade mutton fat warm jade, I guess you’ll like it,” he thought of her when he got his hands on it, and he specially left it for her, and sure enough.

Nan Yi closed the box and said, "Thanks," but added irritably, "However, I haven't forgiven you. Humph, hugging a beauty."

The Ninth Prince's face immediately turned ashen.

"I'm leaving now, goodbye," Nan Yi said, about to go out.

“Wait,” he said.

"What's wrong now?"

The Ninth Prince pointed to the cabbage she was holding.

"You can't bear to part with it?" she asked, her almond-shaped eyes narrowing.

"...No, wrap it up in something, it's too conspicuous," the Ninth Prince wanted to cry. This girl had too sharp eyes and took away the most valuable thing in the room.

"No need," he said, then jumped off the building and disappeared into the night.

The Ninth Prince stared intently at the disappearing figure, unable to sleep. He returned to his room and sat on the low couch, lost in thought. As night deepened, he was startled by the chill that crept over him. Looking down, he realized he wasn't wearing a shirt, only trousers. Remembering his earlier encounter with Nan Yi, he instantly blushed crimson, wishing he could disappear into a crack in the ground.

People in ancient times were reserved, unlike Nan Yi, who grew up surrounded by men and was used to seeing his senior brothers shirtless. He had even seen them without clothes on before and didn't take it to heart. It was the Ninth Prince who was embarrassed for a long time.

"Master, you're finally back," Qingyun said, opening the door and welcoming her in.

"Thank you for your hard work. I hope nothing went wrong," Nan Yi asked.

Qingyun shook her head, but was a little apprehensive. Nan Yi stuffed the treasure in his arms into her hands, "Put it away, hide it well, and don't let anyone find out."

"Okay," Qingyun said without paying attention, and simply carried it to the cabinet and put it away.

"And this, you can put it away too," Nan Yi handed her another small box, which Qingyun also put in the cabinet. The two of them tidied up and went to sleep.

Early the next morning, Qingyun woke Nan Yi up. "Master, we have to get up early today." Nan Yi yawned and asked, "Why?" He hadn't gone there yesterday.

“Let’s settle the kitchen matter today,” Yiren reminded him with a smile.

"Ah, oh, right, the small kitchen! Today, I, your master, am going to finally show my true colors," Nanqi said, getting up to wash his face.

"Yiren, bring me your clothes," why is it taking so long?

She turned around and called out, "Yiren?" She found two maids standing motionless in front of the cabinet.

"What happened?" She walked over and glanced at the cabinet. "Oh, Qingyun saw it yesterday."

"Master, I didn't even notice last night," she said. If she had known it was this, she would have touched it carefully. What a treasure!

"You can look at it carefully now, and then have Yiren put it away later, just make sure no one sees it."

Qingyun reached out and picked it up, letting out a heavy sigh. It was an extremely precious treasure, and Yiren beside him swallowed hard.

Seeing the two girls' greedy expressions, she reminded them again, "You should also put away the things in that box." Yiren looked at the box next to her, opened it curiously, and exclaimed, "Wow—," it's so pretty, but it's still a bit inferior to that cabbage.
