How long did Jiang Siyan watch? Probably from the moment Su Er took the candy and smiled slightly at that man.
He had seen the little girl smile at him like that countless times, so even though she was wearing a mask and there was a car window between them, he could guess what her expression was like.
Her eyes would curve into beautiful crescent shapes, filled with starlight, as if he were all she could see.
In short, it was completely different from the stunned moment she saw his caller ID.
"Who is this guy, acting so arrogantly?" someone asked.
"Which gentleman?"
Amidst the murmurs, Su Er answered the phone, placed the receiver to her ear, and the honking of the horn abruptly ceased.
The group looked away and prepared to move forward again.
Su Er released Fang Li's hand, paused, and listened to the nonchalant tone in the receiver, "He's finally answering the phone."
Su Er pursed her lips and remained silent.
Xiao Shiyu, who was originally walking in front, noticed that Su Er hadn't followed, and stood there stunned, holding his phone.
He stopped and asked with concern, "Xiao Er, what's wrong?"
In an instant, everyone turned to look at Su Er in response to those words.
Jiang Siyan tapped his knuckles lightly on the door frame. A few seconds later, the car window slowly rolled down. He asked in a low voice through the crowd, "Er'er, do you want me to get out and pick you up, or do you want to come over yourself?"
Su Er bit her lower lip and looked at the blurry figure not far away. The grievances that had been suppressed a few nights ago seemed to surge up again, and she couldn't help but tear up.
She never thought of herself as a particularly fragile person, but she always seemed to be an exception when facing Jiang Siyan.
Su Er didn't hang up the phone. She looked at Xiao Shiyu with some guilt and said, "Senior brother, I'm sorry, I probably can't go out to eat with you guys."
Xiao Shiyu was taken aback by her words. Although he was somewhat confused, he still smiled gently and said, "It's alright. Is there something you need?"
Su Er nodded, then turned and handed the bag to Lin Shuqin, "Sister Qin, you can take Lili and them with you. Just use my card to pay."
Lin Shuqin didn't react either, and asked, "What's wrong?"
Su Er's gaze fell on the car not far away. "He's here to pick me up."
Lin Shuqin followed her gaze and glanced at the car. Although the car window was closed, the license plate said it all.
Lin Shuqin hadn't had a chance to ask what had happened between them, but she still whispered a word of advice, "Speak properly, don't rush."
Lin Shuqin took her bag, naturally made an excuse for Su Er, and then urged everyone to continue walking towards the restaurant.
Su Er, holding her phone, apologized to Xiao Shiyu again, "Goodbye, senior brother. We'll talk again next time."
After hastily saying goodbye, she didn't even listen to his reply before turning around and running off in the opposite direction.
Xiao Shiyu couldn't help but look back a few more times, and just then he saw the figure in the dark green dress open the door of the car that had just honked its horn.
And what flashed by was a detached and aloof profile.
Xiao Shiyu withdrew his gaze, the moonlight reflected in his eyes, his expression calm and composed as ever.
Almost the instant the car door closed, the partition rose up.
The vehicle started moving, and the scenery outside the window began to change.
The air conditioning in the car wasn't turned up very high, but Su Er still felt the hairs on her arms stand on end from the cold air.
She glanced at the man sitting beside her out of the corner of her eye. Jiang Siyan was gently rubbing his temples with his fingertips, his eyes closed, looking very tired.
Thinking of this, Su Er spat on himself. He deserved to be tired!
She turned her head back again. Inside the carriage, all was quiet and peaceful, with only the flowing light and shadow gently caressing her eyes again and again.
However, Su Er's mind was far from as calm as the atmosphere at the moment.
She couldn't help but recall what Jiang Siyan had said a couple of days ago, and she worried that he might misunderstand Xiao Shiyu, which would cause trouble for others.
She lowered her eyes and unconsciously fiddled with her fingers. After thinking it over and over, she finally gritted her teeth, stomped her foot, turned her head and took the initiative, "That was my senior brother. My necklace had a problem today, and he helped me, so I treated him to dinner with a whole bunch of people."
She spoke very quickly, as if she was preparing to part ways with him as soon as she finished speaking.
Jiang Siyan's chest heaved heavily once before he opened his eyes, glanced at her, and asked in a light tone, "So you've finally decided to speak?"
The way she asked the question made it sound like she was being unreasonable.
Su Er felt a lump in her throat, but her tone remained firm, "Anyway, don't misunderstand her."
Jiang Siyan laughed in anger, "Listen to what you're saying, do you think I'm such an unreasonable person?"
She sniffed and thought to herself, "Who knows what kind of person you are, or what kind of temper you have?"
Su Er didn't want to argue with him, so she turned her head toward the car window without saying a word.
Jiang Siyan also knew that when the young girl got tough, she wouldn't even glance at him, even if she twisted her neck all night.
In the past, Jiang Siyan probably couldn't have imagined that he would be so helpless with a young girl.
Jiang Siyan reached out and grabbed her slender wrist, pulling her close before she could react and holding her tightly in his arms.
Sure enough, the next second, Su Er started jumping and struggling in his arms like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
Unable to struggle, she could only glare at him angrily: "Let go!"
Jiang Siyan rested his chin on her shoulder and sighed, "Er'er, how long are you going to keep making a scene?"
Su Er's eyes immediately reddened, and her voice began to choke as she spoke, "I'm not making a fuss, Jiang Siyan. I'm not the kind of person who would pester someone. If you don't believe me or don't like me, you can just say so. There's no need to say things like that to mock and ridicule me."
