"Si Yan, what brings you here tonight?" Someone came out from inside to greet him. He had a kind and gentle face, which broke the tense atmosphere between them.
Su Er wisely concealed her previously flamboyant gaze and quietly stayed behind Jiang Siyan.
"Uncle Zhang, why haven't you gone back to rest yet?" Jiang Siyan's attitude wasn't particularly warm; his words sounded more like a casual remark.
Zhang Xuchuan was used to his laid-back nature and didn't mind, replying with a smile, "Going back would just mean being alone anyway, it's more lively here. What about you? Have you eaten yet?"
Jiang Siyan nodded to the side with his chin, "This isn't a treat from the young lady; I was just looking for a quiet place."
Zhang Xuchuan was taken aback upon hearing this, thinking to himself, "Who has such a big face that I have to find a place to invite them to dinner?"
Su Er stood to the side, feeling like a little girl following her parents to pay New Year's visits when she was young. Jiang Siyan gestured to her, "Just call him Uncle Zhang."
Since entering the entertainment industry, Su Er has always adhered to the rule of "never hitting a smiling face," meaning that no matter who the other person is, a smile will never hurt.
She smiled gently and said, "Hello, Uncle Zhang."
Even though Zhang Xuchuan was surprised that Jiang Siyan had brought the people himself, he didn't show it on his face. He quickly responded with an "Eh," and asked affectionately, "Miss, what would you like to eat? I'll arrange it for you."
Su Er still said the same thing: "I'm fine with anything."
Jiang Siyan suddenly added from the side, "He's from Nancheng, so he's practically your fellow townsman. Uncle Zhang, you can make the arrangements as you see fit."
Su Er was taken aback. It was just a casual mention at the dinner table that night, how could he still remember it?
"Good, good, good, no wonder you came here. Putting everything else aside, the stir-fries I made here are pretty authentic." Zhang Xuchuan said as he warmly invited them to walk into the courtyard.
Before taking a step, Jiang Siyan suddenly turned to look at her. His low, husky voice, carried on the spring breeze, caught her off guard and startled her. He said, "Shall I take your hand?"
His large palms were outstretched in front of her, possessing an irresistible charm.
Even though I knew it was a deliberate provocation, I still couldn't help but feel upset.
Her throat was hoarse, and she avoided eye contact with a hint of panic: "No need, I can walk by myself."
As expected, Jiang Siyan smiled indifferently and said, "Then stay close."
This time, Su Er dared not be stunned anymore and followed him closely. The sound of their footsteps, one in front of the other, was like a serenade played leisurely in the night. Step by step, she was drawn into the most romantic melody of the night.
The dining room was a small private room, which Uncle Zhang had decorated for them. While the dishes were being served, he chatted with Su Er for a few more minutes in the southern dialect.
"Then you can enjoy your meal. I won't disturb you any longer." Once all the dishes were served, Zhang Xuchuan tactfully withdrew.
Su Er was somewhat relieved, fortunately the footsteps coming and going had masked the rumbling in her stomach, so she wouldn't have to endure another round of laughter.
The steaming hot food tempts the taste buds, and saliva involuntarily wells up in the mouth.
Although there were only the two of them in the room, she wasn't the main character, so she didn't feel comfortable starting to eat.
Su Er sat upright with her hands neatly placed on her knees. During filming today, the director didn't put on makeup to pursue realism, only drawing her eyebrows. Now, under the warm yellow light, even the fine downy hairs on her face were clearly visible, making her look just like the top student in school who always ranked at the top of her class.
It seemed as if she could sit there hungry all night if he didn't speak.
He was so sharp-tongued just a moment ago, but now he's all reserved around him.
Jiang Siyan couldn't stand her like this, so he tapped his knuckles lightly on the table twice. "What are you standing there for? Aren't you hungry?"
Su Er then picked up her chopsticks.
Compared to the delicacies on the table, Jiang Siyan seemed to prefer the pot of sake on the table.
Su Er glanced at it, and he happened to catch it. He shook the porcelain bottle in his hand and asked her, "Would you like some?"
Su Er shook her head. Although she enjoyed drinking, she knew all too well the saying that drinking could lead to trouble.
Fearing she might lose control, she generally avoids alcohol at dinner parties unless absolutely necessary.
But... is he not driving for a while?
Thinking of this, Su Er suddenly came to her senses. Forget it, they would be done with each other after this meal, why should she care so much?
She lowered her head again, picked up a piece of vegetarian assorted vegetables with her chopsticks, and tasted the authentic flavor of her hometown, which warmed her heart.
Jiang Siyan wasn't exactly a patient person. His subordinates would mentally rehearse their reports several times before daring to speak, but tonight seemed to be an exception.
For example, right now, sipping sake and not talking about anything, I find myself watching a young girl eat with great interest.
She eats in a very slow and gentle manner, giving the impression that you are watching a silent food film.
When he tastes something he likes, he will unconsciously raise his eyebrows, revealing a hint of delighted smugness, which makes him unable to resist picking up a few more bites to try dishes he is not particularly fond of.
Only after seeing that she had almost finished eating did Jiang Siyan bring up the topic and ask her, "How old are you?"
That question has the air of an old scholar from a period drama.
Su Er was afraid that he might ask, "What books have you read?" the next second.
Fortunately, the plot did not develop as she had expected. Su Er pursed her lips and answered, "Twenty-three."
Jiang Siyan nodded knowingly, seemingly finding a reason for her occasional impulsive and reckless behavior, and chuckled, "Little girl."
