When it comes to dinner parties, Su Er still retains a bit of naivety, like a newcomer.
At first, Sister Qin also told her that the matter was over.
After all, they are all prominent figures; they wouldn't bother targeting a minor actress like her.
But soon she learned that the higher a person's position, the more they cared about the so-called "noble" face.
Su Er continued memorizing her lines and filming as usual, cleverly forgetting those people who shouldn't have left a trace in her memory.
Everything that night was just a fleeting interlude for her, and everything seemed to have returned to normal.
I realized three days later on the film set that the matter of that dinner party had not been resolved.
Su Er was filming a night scene until the early hours of the morning and was in a hurry to get back to rest. She hurriedly ran to the car with her coat on, and just as she was about to step into the car, Fang Li exclaimed "Ah!" and looked at Su Er apologetically: "Sister Er'er, I forgot to take my bag."
The girl was a year younger than her and had just graduated not long ago; she was always a bit clumsy and impulsive in her actions.
It's nothing serious. Su Er looked at her pitiful face, waved her hand and said, "Forget it, don't get down. It's just a few steps. I'll go get it myself."
After saying that, she closed the car door and hurried towards the film set.
Although her scenes were over, the crew hadn't finished filming yet, and most people were focused on the male and female leads under the lights.
Su Er smiled and nodded to the familiar staff as a greeting. After finding her bag, she didn't linger. Carefully avoiding the equipment scattered on the ground, she quickly walked out of the film set.
Away from the crowd, Su Er rummaged through her bag as she walked back, and found the familiar matchbox among a pile of odds and ends. Just as she was thinking of taking it out and sneaking a bite, she heard a familiar voice coming from the RV next to her.
Lin Shuqin asked in a somewhat humble voice, "No, Director Wang, why was this scene cut? Our Xiao Er prepared for this scene for a long time, and even went to a teacher to practice the piano for a long time."
There will indeed be a major scene for her in a couple of days.
Su Er stopped in her tracks, looked up and saw that it was the film crew's car.
The assistant director seemed to be at his wit's end, and said with a hint of helplessness, "Sister Qin, it's not that I want to make things difficult for you. You're a veteran in the industry, and some things... you know, aren't things we decide. It's not easy for me to do this."
Lin Shuqin was silent for a moment, and finally could only sigh and compromise helplessly, "I understand, thank you for your trouble."
"Not at all."
...
Su Er stopped listening and quietly tiptoed around to the other side. Once she was far away, the sounds of their conversation faded away with the wind.
She slowed her pace, but the pebbles under her feet still hurt painfully, and a nerve in her brain throbbed with pain, as if reminding her that some things do not exist just because she pretends not to hear them.
The phrase "self-deception" does not apply in the world of fame and fortune.
The bright lights behind her illuminated the night as if it were daytime, but the figure beneath her feet was as black as ancient ink, sweeping across the unknown darkness, ready to devour her at any moment.
She knew this road was difficult to travel.
Su Er pulled her coat tighter, trying to warm herself up, but the cold wind seemed to be deliberately working against her, relentlessly penetrating her bones.
Her hands rested on the handlebars, chilled to the bone, her fingertips frozen stiff.
That sense of futility transformed into a feeling of powerless weariness, gradually engulfing her.
"Xiao Er, aren't we leaving?" Old Chen asked.
Su Er struck a match, gesturing for him to close the car window first so as not to bother them with the smoke, "I'm going to have a smoke."
A touch of scarlet, smoke entering the lungs, it seems that only in this swirling smoke can the tense nerves have a chance to relax for a moment.
She suddenly remembered the reason why she smoked her first cigarette. In the first semester of her freshman year, she was so worried because she couldn't hand in her final report that she would cry every day after class. She was living a muddled life.
During rehearsals, she borrowed a cigarette from a senior student. One puff made her eyes water.
Coincidentally, the inspiration for the play came to me at that very moment.
Later, naturally, smoking to relieve worries and troubles seemed to become a habit.
But tonight, the pent-up frustration in my chest seemed to persist no matter how much I exhaled and inhaled smoke.
"We're on set, so be careful not to get photographed." Her thoughts were interrupted as Sister Qin walked over from a familiar direction, nagging her as always.
Su Er smiled and said, "Just this one."
Lin Shuqin didn't try to persuade her anymore; all that remained in the air was the hissing sound of flames devouring tobacco.
Lin Shuqin was extremely troubled about how to bring up the topic of revising the play. In her agitation, she shrugged at her and said, "Give me one."
Su Er paused, her eyes widening slightly. She tightened her grip on her bag, a cigarette dangling from her lips, and chuckled, "Sister Qin, forget it, this isn't a good habit."
Even though she said that, she didn't actually put out the cigarette.
Lin Shuqin hesitated for a long time, looking at her delicate profile, and finally whispered, "Xiao Er..."
The cigarette between Su Er's fingers was half-burned, and the grayish-white ash fell in a flurry like falling stars. She exhaled a smoke ring, and the sigh hidden within it dissipated into the desolate night.
She turned her head and said, "Sister Qin, I'll go."
Lin Shuqin was stunned, not having had time to react to the meaning behind her words.
