Chapter 22 The Fake Heiress's Escape from Marriage - Corn and Pork Rib Soup
On the third day after Gu Chi disappeared, Gu Zhao finally realized that he hadn't seen him recently.
Gu Chi doesn't usually have any friends, and even if he does, Gu Zhao doesn't know how to contact them because he has never talked to Gu Chi about school.
So he called Yun Chiyi.
Yun Chiyi lay on the camping chair, picked up a piece of peach and put it in her mouth, listening absentmindedly to Gu Zhao's anxious words.
"I can't find Xiaochi anywhere. I don't know where the child went. Did he go to Hongshan Garden to look for you?"
After receiving no response for a long time, Gu Zhao asked in confusion, "Xiao Yi, are you listening to me?"
Yun Chiyi swung her legs, enjoying the wild breeze carrying the scent of grass: "I heard it."
Gu Zhao said, "Think about where Gu Chi might go. I asked the housekeeper, and he hasn't been home for the past few days."
Yun Chiyi nodded knowingly, "You haven't been home for several days? But he didn't come to Hongshan Garden either, and I'm not home right now either. I've been gone for several days, didn't you notice, Dad?"
She spoke with a silvery laugh.
Gu Zhao wouldn't think of her unless something was wrong, so why would he go to Hongshan Garden to see her?
Yun Chiyi asked, "Why doesn't Xiao Chi go home? Did his father scold him?"
To Gu Zhao, Yun Chiyi was clearly speaking from the perspective of an older sister, but Gu Zhao insisted that she was an outsider and that such private matters should be discussed in public. Wasn't this a slap in his face?
Yun Chiyi asked innocently, "Did Dad hit Xiaochi again?"
Gu Zhao got annoyed and said, suppressing her anger, "Fine, if it's not with you, then forget it."
Yun Chiyi chuckled, her sly gaze following Gu Chi, who was diligently starting a fire under the tree; they were going to have a barbecue that night.
“I didn’t say he wasn’t with me.”
Gu Zhao, unable to bear it any longer, said, "Why are you talking so sarcastically today? If he's here, let him answer the phone."
Yun Chiyi raised her voice to call Gu Chi to her side. Gu Chi had clearly been resting well these past few days, his eyes shining with a clear light. He excitedly ran to Yun Chiyi, his fair cheeks dirty from starting the fire.
She pointed to the phone and said without any hesitation, "Your dad is calling to see you. Just tell him the truth."
Upon hearing this, Gu Chi's smile vanished instantly, and his timid self immediately returned to his body.
He nervously swallowed, his hands trembling as he took the phone, and Gu Zhao immediately launched into a tirade of abuse.
"Where have you been? You dare not come home?"
"Come back here right now. If I don't see you by tomorrow, you'd better figure out what to do."
"Gu Chi, did you hear me?!"
Gu Chi's lips turned white. Instead of replying immediately, he took out his phone and asked Yun Chiyi for her opinion.
"Dad told me to go back."
Yun Chiyi looked at him indifferently and gracefully picked up the cocktail on the small table.
She remained silent, and Gu Chi seemed to lose his composure instantly. His expression grew increasingly grim, but he continued to stare intently at Yun Chiyi's face.
He thought, "If only I could read minds."
Just as Gu Chi was about to give up, Yun Chiyi turned around calmly and said, "You already have the answer in your heart, so why are you asking me?"
Gu Chi's mind went blank for a moment.
She said he had the answer...
Gu Zhao's voice suddenly rang out again: "Are you deaf or mute?"
Gu Chi frowned, put the phone to his ear again, and this time he was determined.
"I'm not going back. I want to stay with my sister."
Yun Chiyi heard his trembling voice, and her red lips subtly curved upwards.
Gu Chi felt more confident: "If I go back, my dad will beat me again, so I'm not going back."
Gu Zhao exploded upon hearing this: "Are you crazy? You've been corrupted by Yun Chiyi."
Yun Chiyi took the phone directly and said aggrievedly, "I know Dad is still angry, but what you said is too hurtful. You always complain that my words and actions are vulgar and that I will lead Xiaochi astray."
“But Dad, have you ever thought that my poor manners are because I haven’t received an aristocratic education? During the years I was lost, being able to go to school normally was the happiest thing for me.”
At this point, her eyes turned cold, but her tone remained soft: "Dad, I really envy those kids who can play the piano. They even took waltz lessons in middle school..."
This trick always worked, so Gu Zhao wisely shut up and stopped nagging her.
She sniffed: "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that."
Feeling guilty, Gu Zhao didn't urge Gu Chi to go home.
After hanging up the phone, Yun Chiyi scoffed and sat up from the camping chair.
Where is Lin Jishen?
After watching a thoroughly enjoyable performance, Gu Chi quickly pointed her in the right direction.
Yun Chiyi patted his head with satisfaction: "Thank you."
Gu Chi was flattered and his joy returned to his face. Before the task was even completed, he took credit and said, "I'll continue to start the fire!"
Yun Chiyi's light steps led her straight to the kitchen on the first floor. She walked past the flamboyant flowers and, as she passed the fountain, water droplets splashed onto her ankles. A gentle breeze blew by, bringing a touch of coolness.
Renting this vacation villa for a few days is not cheap, but luckily its owner is Lin Jishen.
Yun Chiyi knocked on the kitchen door, and the moment Lin Jishen looked over, she smiled and entered the house.
I didn't see Lin Jishen outside in the afternoon. He was making a phone call in the kitchen and also stewing a pot of corn and pork rib soup.
Here, he wore a white coat, a stark contrast to the impact of black, and the frost between his brows melted away somewhat.
He was in a good mood, slowly stirring the clear soup on the fire.
"Want to try some?"
Yun Chiyi glanced down at him with her hands behind her back and said, "Your cooking is pretty good. Give me a bowl."
Lin Jishen said, "Isn't the bowl right next to you?"
Then he washed his hands, reached for the bowl, scooped out half a spoonful and handed it to Yun Chiyi to taste for saltiness.
Unexpectedly, Yun Chiyi grabbed his hand and stood on tiptoe to reach the bowl in his hand.
She suddenly moved closer, and Lin Jishen paused for a moment, then chuckled softly.
Yun Chiyi licked her lips and said, "Add a little more salt, it still feels a little bit off."
She pinched her fingers together and squinted her right eye.
Lin Jishen concealed the gloom in his eyes and casually put the bowl into the sink.
"No need to add any more. The taste will be just right if the water is boiled away a little more."
Yun Chiyi pulled up a chair and sat down next to him to watch him cook soup. In fact, Lin Jishen was mostly replying to messages. His eyes were sharp, and the corners of his mouth were intentionally or unintentionally turned up.
Things must be going very smoothly.
Yun Chiyi asked him softly, "What are your plans?"
Lin Jishen didn't even look up: "Simmer for another ten minutes or so, then turn off the heat and add some scallions and cilantro."
That's not what I was asking him.
Yun Chiyi was speechless. She picked up the washed peach and took a big bite. She hadn't peeled it, and the astringent taste rubbed against her teeth.
She said matter-of-factly, reaching for Lin Jishen's calf with her toes: "Peel it for me."
Lin Jishen didn't indulge her and placed the peeler in her palm: "These hands are so beautiful, they should be used for something useful."
Yun Chiyi raised her hand and examined it carefully: "Isn't this what we're planning to do?"
As she spoke, she narrowed her eyes and smiled, looking at Lin Jishen like a cat.
As night fell, Gu Chi finally managed to light the fire after much difficulty. They sat around the stove and brushed oil onto the ingredients that Wen Yanyan had bought that afternoon before grilling them.
Wen Yan Yan also bought a Polaroid camera to quietly capture meaningful moments and then make them into a journal for preservation.
Yun Chiyi noticed the camera, moved her finger to wave, and the firelight reflected on her cheeks, making her eyes sparkle.
After taking the photo, Wen Yanyan suggested, "The smile looks a bit fake. I'll try to take candid photos next time."
Yun Chiyi flashed eight teeth: "This is my standard smile."
Wen Yan Yan turned her head away and ignored her words.
Once the easily cooked foods were done, Lin Jishen basically directed Gu Chi to control the heat.
Seeing Gu Chi's progress these past few days, everyone couldn't help but smile with satisfaction.
Since the main purpose of the outing was to relax, the four of them drank some alcohol. Wen Yanyan and Gu Chi got sleepy and went to bed first.
As the evening breeze caressed her face, Yun Chiyi rested her chin on her hand and glanced at Lin Jishen as he arranged the wine bottles.
She wasn't used to him wearing white.
Lin Jishen noticed her scrutiny and turned around slowly: "What, are you drunk?"
Yun Chiyi: "My alcohol tolerance isn't that bad."
Her eyes were unfocused: "Once things are settled here, I'm going to find something else to do."
Lin Jishen sensed her intention to leave and asked in a cold tone, "For example?"
Yun Chiyi sighed: "I'm not a daughter of the Yun family, it would be too embarrassing for me to stay any longer, so I'm thinking that after I get my payment, I'll leave for another place."
Lin Jishen asked, puzzled, "Where did you get your payment?"
Yun Chiyi suddenly sat up, her voice trembling with emotion: "No way! When I boarded this pirate ship, you promised me a seven-figure reward. Otherwise, why would I have been willing to take such a risk?"
Lin Jishen recalled her two-faced behavior over the past few months and wondered where she got the audacity to make such exorbitant demands.
Yun Chiyi had drunk some wine, her cheeks flushed, and her eyes were misty: "You're definitely cursing me in your heart."
She was about to fall off the chair when Lin Jishen reached out to steady her. As a result, she leaned even more heavily on his shoulder, briefly relying on his sense of security.
Yun Chiyi was a little sleepy and mumbled, "It's fine if you don't give me money, I'll find a way to get some. With money, I can go find foreign male models."
Under the moonlight, Lin Jishen's eyes darkened: "What are you looking for?"
His tone was incredulous: "From what you're saying, if you can get money from me, you'll use it to sleep with other men?"
Yun Chiyi pressed against his chest, and when she tilted her head back, the scent of wine wafted up like a venomous snake up Lin Jishen's neck. His Adam's apple bobbed unconsciously, concealing a surging tide of emotion.
Her eyes were innocent and glistening with tears: "Is that not allowed?"
Lin Jishen lowered his eyes to meet his gaze: "What do you think?"
Yun Chiyi changed the subject and said, "Or you can promise to do something for me, and we can call off the money issue."
A cold glint flashed across Lin Jishen's eyes. All that nonsensical preamble had turned out to be her real intention.
He became interested: "Okay, go ahead."
Yun Chiyi smiled and whispered, her lips almost touching Lin Jishen's earlobe: "What do you think about Yan Yan becoming the head of the Yun family next year?"
Her gaze passed over her shoulder and fell on Wen Yanyan drawing by the window in the second-floor room. When she encountered a difficult problem, Wen Yanyan poked her hair with her pencil in distress.
Perhaps it was because of her aura, or perhaps because of her words, Lin Jishen inexplicably developed goosebumps on his arm.
Yun Chiyi smiled and sat up straight. The thing on his arm disappeared, apparently because of her breathing.
