Clang—
The sound of the cup hitting the ground startled Zhang, the adjutant, awake from his sleep.
"Who goes there!"
He was startled and immediately got up from the sofa, shaking his head vigorously to clear his mind.
Damn it!
The commander clearly sent him to protect Coulson, so why did he fall asleep for no reason?
Perhaps it's because I haven't slept for a day and a night that I'm so exhausted.
After the operation to eliminate Fang ended, it was discovered that one or two had escaped. Since Coulson was now the only witness and a successfully modified superhuman, the Chief was worried that Fang would come after him, which is why he arranged for himself to come to the hospital.
The corridor was under 24-hour surveillance, and even the room had four cameras, all pointing directly at Coulson on the bed without any blind spots.
Seeing that Coulson on the bed was unharmed, except for being a little pale, Lieutenant Zhang subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.
She rubbed her dry eyes hard. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Water from the cup splashed all over the floor. Coulson pointed fearfully out the window, "I have a feeling... there was a figure just passing by..."
Lieutenant Zhang immediately became alert, gripping the walkie-talkie and ordering, "Attention everyone! Check what's happening outside!"
"receive!"
Upon hearing Zhang's voice, the soldiers at the other end of the corridor immediately organized a search of the entire floor.
Footsteps echoed outside, one after another. Coulson knew they were all people protecting him, and he felt less afraid.
Even though Yan Miao had carefully guided him and taught him how to control his superpowers, he was still a child after all. It was impossible for him not to have a traumatic reaction after experiencing such a terrifying thing!
He gets so nervous at the slightest disturbance that he can't sleep.
"Don't be afraid, I'll go to the window and take a look."
Lieutenant Zhang held his breath, pulled back the safety on his gun, and pointed the dark muzzle directly out the window.
The window was half-open at some point, and the curtains were flapping loudly in the cold wind outside, rolling into strange shapes.
The white curtains looked particularly eerie in the darkness, like the opening scene of a horror movie.
He leaned out the window, his gaze sweeping over every blind spot—the area below the window, the bushes downstairs—and even turned on a powerful flashlight, using both a pistol and a flashlight together.
They were both searching and ready to fire at any moment!
Ten minutes later, he reached out and closed the window, making sure to draw the curtains as well. He then turned to Coulson on the bed and reassured him, "It's okay, the nurse probably forgot to close the window when she changed the dressing last night. Go back to sleep."
Can........
Coulson had a bad feeling; he had just really seen it—
A figure flashed by!
So fast I couldn't even make out their faces!
Could it be that I really misread it?
He thought that Zhang, the adjutant, hadn't slept for a day and a night to protect him. His face was exhausted, and his eyes were bloodshot, looking like they were about to explode.
He swallowed the words that were about to come out!
Forget it, I don't want to drag others down with me. They're just ordinary people, with mortal bodies, they can't withstand the attacks of superhumans at all.
"corridor!"
"There's someone in the hallway—"
A terrified scream came from the other end of the walkie-talkie.
Then there was no sound, only the crackling of static.
Lieutenant Zhang locked Coulson in the bathroom and instructed him, "Remember, don't open the door for anyone who knocks, unless it's me, understand?"
"Can you please not go out? You'll be dead if you run into them!"
Coulson grabbed his sleeve and wouldn't let go.
He had witnessed the power of superhumans and didn't want his adjutant Zhang to go and die!
"My mission is to protect you. As a soldier, protecting the citizens of the country is my responsibility and duty, and you are not only my responsibility and duty, but also my mission in this situation!"
"If I fail to complete the mission, I'll feel worse than if I were dead!"
"Soldiers cannot back down, son!"
Lieutenant Zhang vigorously ruffled the boy's soft hair, resolutely pushed his hands away, and locked the door from the inside.
Stepping out of the room, time seemed to stand still in the hallway.
The two soldiers at the far end stood against the wall, motionless, and did not turn around when they heard the door open.
Lieutenant Zhang realized something was wrong. He gripped his gun tightly, looked around 360 degrees, and looked up to see that the red lights of the entire row of cameras overhead had all gone out!
Some people have turned off their cameras because they don't want their faces to be captured on camera!
He cautiously moved forward, and just as he touched the soldiers' bodies—
The two of them collapsed, their bodies stiff!
Two loud bangs, coupled with their wide-open eyes, broke Zhang's heart.
These are his brothers with whom he spends every day!
Their expressions were frozen, devoid of fear or anything else, just the most ordinary of expressions.
Tonight seemed like just another ordinary night, calm and uneventful...
They might not even have realized who the other person was before they were killed!
Both of them had a bloody gash on their necks, as thin as a fingernail scratch, but enough to kill them!
There was no time to call for help, so Lieutenant Zhang could only grit his teeth and continue forward. He turned a corner, and sure enough, it was just as quiet.
The scene before my eyes was like purgatory—
All the soldiers stood in neat rows against the wall!
No one made a sound!
His blood was churning wildly, and Zhang, the adjutant, was so grief-stricken that he couldn't even utter a sound.
