Chapter 32 Seeking Help
Gu Jin's face was full of joy as he looked at his adorable biological daughter, a feeling of happiness welling up in his heart.
"By the way, you can have your two older brothers teach you to read and write, but you still need a teacher to instruct you in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting."
As Gu Jin spoke, he affectionately tapped Gu Shuyan's forehead with his pen. Upon hearing this, Gu Shuyan quickly grabbed Gu Jin's hand and began to whine, begging him not to invite those old-fashioned and strict men to her house.
Just then, Gu Yingxue, who had come looking for Gu Jin, arrived.
Gu Yingxue stood at the door watching the father and daughter inside haggling over a price, looking quite pleased with themselves. Gu Yingxue's feet felt as heavy as if they weighed a ton and she couldn't lift them.
"Sister Yingxue is here, why are you standing outside instead of coming in?"
Gu Shuyan turned around and pretended not to see Gu Yingxue outside the door, acting as if she had just noticed her.
Gu Yingxue was startled by what she heard, and quickly composed herself, walking in with a smile.
"The daughter has met her father and her sister."
Gu Yingxue bowed respectfully to the two men before looking at them hesitantly, "Father, I have something to tell you."
"Oh? What is it?"
Gu Jin suppressed his smile and looked at Gu Yingxue with a serious expression.
Seeing Gu Yingxue keep her head down and remain silent for a long time, Gu Shuyan looked at Gu Jin blankly, "Is it inconvenient because of me? Should I leave?"
As Gu Shuyan was about to walk around the table and leave, Gu Jin called her back from behind.
"We're all family, what can't you hear? Leave it here!"
Gu Jin didn't miss the fleeting look of hurt on Gu Shuyan's face. Looking at his sensible daughter, he couldn't help but feel a little more dissatisfied with Gu Yingxue.
"Speak, what do you want from me?"
Seeing Gu Jin's suddenly changed expression, Gu Yingxue didn't expect Gu Shuyan to be so good at pretending. If she wanted to leave, she should have just left. Why did she have to say it out loud?
But now was not the time to argue with Gu Shuyan. Remembering the purpose of her visit, Gu Yingxue knelt down on the ground with a thud.
"Father, please save Chunyan!"
As she spoke, tears streamed down Gu Yingxue's face as if they were free.
"Chunyan? Isn't she your head maid?"
Gu Jin knew about Gu Yingxue's maid, but for Gu Yingxue to come crying and beg him to save a senior maid, could something serious have happened?
Just as she was thinking this, Gu Yingxue continued, "Chunyan went out to buy groceries this morning, but somehow she was arrested by the authorities as a murderer. Father, I know Chunyan's character; she wouldn't even dare kill a chicken, let alone a person. Please, Father, help me save Chunyan!"
Seeing Gu Yingxue's tears slowly falling, Gu Jin quickly had Chunxiang help her up.
"Alright, alright, stop crying. I know a bit about that girl. I'll send someone to the yamen right away to find out what's going on and then we'll figure out a solution."
Gu Jin then called over a servant, gave him a few instructions, and the servant immediately left.
Even so, Gu Yingxue was still worried. "Father, I'm really worried. Can I go to the yamen to see her myself?"
Hearing Gu Yingxue's words, Gu Shuyan raised her eyebrows. She hadn't expected Gu Yingxue to care so much about a maid. There was probably more to it than met the eye.
“Father, Chunyan has served my sister for many years. Even if she hasn’t done anything great, she has certainly put in a lot of effort. Why don’t we let my sister go and see Chunyan?” Gu Shuyan advised.
"That won't do. What will people think if word gets out that a young lady from a respectable family goes to the government office?"
