Chapter 823 The Truth - Arrested
The seventh prince's voice was low, but everyone present could hear it clearly.
Under the watchful eyes of everyone, the Seventh Prince slowly sat down beside Princess Baiyun. After resting his entire head on her body, he closed his eyes and passed away peacefully.
"master!"
Ah Rong's heart-wrenching cries echoed, but there was no response from the Seventh Prince.
Seeing this scene, Xu Menglong was filled with such hatred that he gritted his teeth.
Looking back at Arong not far away, Xu Menglong didn't hesitate and immediately ordered his men to kill him and throw the two of them outside to be fed to the wolves.
Despite the pain, in the last second before he lost consciousness, Ah Rong clearly saw Princess Baiyun being picked up by Xu Menglong and carried away towards the light.
When Arong woke up, he was in a small hut. He was rescued by an old man who lived alone. According to the old man, he found Arong while hunting in the mountains and brought him back after seeing that he was still alive.
"Have you been living with the elderly all these years?"
After listening to Uncle Rong's words, Yun Yichen couldn't help but ask.
Uncle Rong nodded. "I have difficulty moving around. If it weren't for my godfather, I would have died in those desolate mountains long ago. Before he died, my godfather made an agreement with his old customer in town to come every five days to deliver vegetables to me. In return, I would give him some game from the mountains in exchange."
"What about the Seventh Imperial Uncle? Where is his body?"
Uncle Rong did not mention the condition of the Seventh Prince's body, and Yun Yichen guessed that perhaps Uncle Rong and the deceased old man had buried it.
To his surprise, Uncle Rong showed a look of remorse when he mentioned the Seventh Prince's remains.
Could it be that even my seventh uncle couldn't be preserved with his body intact?
“My adoptive father said that when he found me, my master had already lost both hands. Seeing that it was getting late and I was seriously injured, he buried my master carelessly on the mountain. Later, after I recovered, I wanted my adoptive father to take me to offer incense, but when we got there, my adoptive father could not find the place where my master was buried. Later, my adoptive father and I went to search for him many times, but we still have not been able to find my master’s remains.”
As a subordinate, Rong Shu was filled with self-reproach for not even knowing where his master's grave was after his death.
However, in Yun Yichen's view, the fact that the Seventh Prince was not devoured by the jackals and tigers on the mountain was already the best outcome.
As for where the body is, what else is important in these mountains and forests?
"Uncle Rong, don't blame yourself too much. I'm sure your uncle would be sad if he knew you were like this."
After offering a few words of advice, Yun Yichen took the map and returned to his room.
Gu Shuyan spent another quiet night in the village, and when Mu Fan arrived the next day, Gu Shuyan was still asleep.
Mu Fan didn't let anyone disturb Gu Shuyan; he simply left some good food and then departed.
"Boss, there's been a new discovery outside."
A man came up to Mu Fan as soon as he came out of the house.
Upon hearing this, Mu Fan glanced at the silent room, then quickly left with the man who had reported the incident.
On Jade Peak Mountain, looking at a newly left set of footprints, Mu Fan asked, "Are these footprints really just following the original footprints and going around in circles?"
“It’s absolutely true. When we left our footprints yesterday, we counted them carefully, and these are definitely new footprints.”
The man's words weighed heavily on Mu Fan's heart. Deep down, he was willing to believe Gu Shuyan.
But how to explain these footprints now? Just to be on the safe side, he deliberately had several people's shoes taken yesterday to set a trap. If they hadn't noticed these footprints, Mu Fan would have unconditionally believed that Gu Shuyan had come to find the medicine.
However, things were not like that at all. Gu Shuyan was just a pawn thrown out by someone else, bait to find their location.
Upon returning to the village, Mu Fan didn't know how to face Gu Shuyan. He felt a sense of familiarity with her from the first time he met her, and as they got to know each other better, he grew to like her more and more.
But now he's being told that Gu Shuyan and the others are just pawns in someone else's game. How can he accept that?
Mu Fan didn't tell the old man about it, and he also didn't want to see Gu Shuyan, so he locked himself in his room and refused to see anyone.
After learning that Mu Fan had not gone out in the evening, Gu Shuyan quietly began to plan her actions for the night.
After two nights of observation, they had roughly figured out the enemy's patterns and knew that there would be a shift change every night. The people who were on duty after the shift change would be more relaxed, so Gu Shuyan chose to make her move after the shift change.
Emperor Wei had just fallen asleep on the chair when he was woken up by the noise. He glanced at the two guards who came in from outside and then closed his eyes again.
Since being brought to this unknown place by Xu Menglong, he has not had a full night's sleep.
Because of sitting for long periods of time, Emperor Wei sometimes felt that his back was about to break. The physical pain and mental exhaustion led Emperor Wei to even beg Xu Menglong to kill him.
But Xu Menglong would only reply with a single sentence each time: "Now is not the time for you to die. When the time comes, even if you beg me, I will not let you live."
The Emperor Wei knew he would die sooner or later, but he had no idea when that death would come or what use Xu Menglong would have for him.
The most terrifying thing in the world is not knowing when you will die, but knowing that you are going to die, yet not knowing how much longer you have to live.
"Bang bang bang".
A few knocks came at the door. The two guards, who had just entered and were still yawning, thought that their companion had forgotten something. But before they could even see who it was, Wuyin and Yang Kun knocked them down.
Emperor Wei noticed something amiss in the sound and looked up, only to see a beggar and a man untying the ropes binding them.
Who are you?
A hoarse voice came through, and Wu Yin and Yang Kun replied, "Your Majesty, we are the chief minister's wife's subordinates, and we have come to ask you to leave."
As soon as Wuyin finished speaking, the Wei Emperor, who had been somewhat disheveled, suddenly raised his head. Seeing the shock in his eyes, Wuyin quickly followed his gaze and saw Mu Fan standing outside the door with a cold expression.
"You really are spies."
The people around Mu Fan looked at the two and said something, but Mu Fan didn't say a word and directly told his subordinates, "Take them away."
When Gu Shuyan was brought before Mu Fan, the sky was just beginning to lighten.
When she saw that Wuyin and Yang Kun were being held captive, Gu Shuyan knew that their plan had been discovered in advance.
When did you discover it?
Now that things have been exposed, Gu Shuyan no longer wants to play the arrogant and haughty noblewoman with Mu Fan.
She stood with her hands behind her back, looking up at Mu Fan, but for some reason, she gave him the feeling that she was the one looking down on him.
