Chapter 824 The Truth - Joy
Mu Fan's eyes flickered, and his words were no longer as approachable as before.
"It's all thanks to the shoes you guys wore, otherwise I would have really been fooled by you."
Thinking about how he had lived for so many years and been a cold-blooded and ruthless person, he felt a pang of self-reproach for making a mistake at such a crucial moment.
"So this is your real purpose in making us dress up as beggars."
Gu Shuyan never expected that while she had schemed against others, one of them would also suffer a loss at her hands.
If she had known it would turn out this way, she should have acted last night; at least they would be out of Jade Peak Mountain by now.
Gu Shuyan did not try to argue; instead, she simply stood there with her hands behind her back.
She was dressed in tattered beggar clothes, and her face was still covered in dirt, but even so, it couldn't hide the aura emanating from Gu Shuyan.
She really looks like a princess!
Mu Fan added in his mind, but then, remembering that this was all an act by Gu Shuyan, Mu Fan's eyes turned cold instantly. "Who exactly are you? What is your purpose here?"
Gu Shuyan met Mu Fan's gaze without the slightest fear. "This lady is Gu Shuyan, wife of Yun Yichen, the Grand Secretary of the capital, and daughter of the Marquis of Yi'an."
Mu Fan was taken aback upon hearing this. In his mind, Yun Yichen would never allow his wife to risk such a dangerous mission as entering Jade Peak Mountain. Therefore, from the moment he captured Wu Yin and Yang Kun, he had labeled Gu Shuyan as a maid.
But he never expected that this young woman who called herself "Madam" was actually Yun Yichen's wife.
"Why did you rush to Yufeng Mountain? Don't you know Yufeng Mountain is dangerous? Does Yun Yichen know about this?"
Mu Fan couldn't help but speak up, but only after he finished speaking did he realize how inappropriate his words were.
He's clearly the bad guy, yet he's showing concern for others. Isn't that like a weasel offering New Year's greetings to a chicken?
"Ahem, what I mean is, aren't you in the capital?"
Mu Fan coughed twice to cover his embarrassment, then looked at Gu Shuyan and gave a ridiculous explanation.
"You wouldn't come here if you were in the capital, would you? It's a pity you'll be disappointed. I, this lady, am here on Jade Peak Mountain right now."
Gu Shuyan knew how dangerous it would be for her to have her identity exposed, but rather than pretending to be a nobody and being left to fend for herself, she preferred to reveal her identity so that others would be wary of her.
After all, given her status, her presence here indicates that the people of the Marquis of Yi'an's residence in the capital know that she has come here.
Gu Shuyan's aura did not change at all despite being a prisoner; she remained arrogant, and even in the lowest-class clothes, she could not hide her innate nobility.
If it were anyone else, seeing Gu Shuyan disregard them like this, they would definitely want to teach her a lesson.
But this person was Mu Fan. His eyes sparkled with excitement. He glanced at everyone, told his men to keep an eye on them, and then immediately ran to find the old man.
The old man hadn't slept all night. He was just putting the things he had made on the table when he heard someone say that Mu Fan had arrived.
Looking at the sky outside, he guessed that Mu Fan must have made some discovery, so he had someone lead him in.
After some explanation, the old man was not angry about Mu Fan's mistake; instead, he threw his head back and laughed.
"It's fate, it's all fate. I was worried about whether everything would go smoothly, but now Gu Shuyan has delivered herself to our door. Our important matter will be completed soon."
The old man laughed wildly, and even though Mu Fan had been by his side for so many years, he couldn't help but tremble at the sight of him.
"I don't quite understand what you mean, my lord. What does this have to do with Gu Shuyan?"
Mu Fan's question interrupted the old man. He glanced at Mu Fan and then said coldly, "Otherwise, why do you think I had Dark Shadow bring Yun Yichen's child back? Do you think I like raising children that much?"
After so much time, the old man already knew that Shadow was dead.
Shadow was indeed the old man's right-hand man, but he was also his brother of so many years. To lose such a great general for a child made the old man want to vomit blood.
"Come, let's go see that woman."
The old man's change of heart from joy to anger was instantaneous.
Looking at the old man, Mu Fan couldn't help but regret his lack of foresight. He wondered if the old man would give the little girl a hard time when they met.
Mu Fan resignedly led the old man outside, but things weren't as calm as Mu Fan had imagined for Gu Shuyan, who was being watched.
As soon as Gu Shuyan saw Mu Fan leave, she glanced at Wu Yin and Yang Kun. Then, when no one was on guard against her, Gu Shuyan slowly pulled out a handful of powder from her sleeve.
They say the wind is the greatest force. Gu Shuyan lowered her head and walked upstream to where the wind was blowing. Then, when the wind picked up, she flicked the powder in her hand. Driven by the wind, the powder quickly spread throughout the entire courtyard.
Wu Yin and Yang Kun had received a prior warning, so they kept an eye on Gu Shuyan's movements. When Gu Shuyan raised her hand, the two of them held their breath immediately, so the powder was not inhaled into their bodies.
"Oh no, stop her quickly!"
A voice rang out, and before anyone could react, they collapsed, their bodies limp and powerless.
"Walk!"
As Gu Shuyan finished speaking, Wuyin and Yang Kun quickly helped the defenseless Wei Huang and Yu Fei to their feet, and the group hurriedly headed out of the village.
The first rays of sunlight shone on the mountains in the early morning, but no one had time to appreciate this stunning scenery.
Gu Shuyan's eyes were fixed on only one place: that large rock, the one with the hidden mechanism.
With her feet barely touching the ground, this was the fastest Gu Shuyan had ever run in both her lives. Wei Huang was being carried by Yang Kun, and the wounds on his body were being shaken until they bled, but Wei Huang didn't utter a single word of pain.
“Niece-in-law, you’ll slow down if you carry me.”
The Emperor of Wei glanced at Gu Shuyan with concern. He had thought that their first meeting would be a grand and prestigious one, a proper reception for Gu Shuyan in the Kingdom of Wei. He never imagined that their encounter would end in this way.
"Uncle, hang in there a little longer, we'll be there soon. Once we're out of the cave, I believe Yichen will come to pick us up."
Gu Shuyan wasn't just making things up. Their carriage was parked at the foot of the mountain. Even if there wasn't anything on the carriage to prove their identity, based on her understanding of Yun Yichen, he would definitely guess that she might be coming as soon as he saw the carriage at the foot of the mountain.
