Chapter 289 Man is Iron, Food is Steel

Ji Xiaoxiao nudged Liao Yu and, ignoring Liao Yu's resistance, pulled him to the scene of the incident.

"I'll beat you traitorous beasts to death."

Before the two even arrived at the scene, they foresaw a heated fight.

"Those supplies were obtained at the cost of my brother's life, how could you...?"

Men don't easily shed tears, unless they are truly heartbroken.

How many lives did they sacrifice to protect these supplies and to save the lives of 300,000 people at Hope Base? Do these traitors who witnessed everything not know?

It's laughable that at a time when humanity is on the verge of extinction, some people are still preoccupied with personal grudges and power struggles.

A punch landed, a kick followed, and the traitors, their faces bruised and swollen, fell silent.

Ji Xiaoxiao and Liao Yu went in and asked about the ins and outs of the matter. The city guards explained the cause and effect clearly, one after the other.

After Ji Xiaoxiao dealt with the hound leader, the hound pack's arrogance diminished significantly. The traitors then seized the opportunity to withdraw from the battlefield, secretly cutting the fuel lines on the trucks. Gasoline was left scattered on the ground; when lit, it exploded with a deafening roar, the flames blazing into the sky. Even if they managed to capture the traitors, the four truckloads of supplies were completely destroyed in the fire.

“I chose you to go out because you guarded the city and its people with utmost care. I originally thought you were wholeheartedly devoted to the base, but I, Liao Yu, have misjudged you. Spit out the mastermind behind this, and I can let you die a quick and easy death.”

Liao Yu angrily kicked a traitor to the ground, stepped on his chest, and glared at the traitors.

The traitors trembled, but remained silent.

"Fine, you've got guts." Liao Yu's finger trembled as he pointed at them. "Men, dig...."

"Ayu, the most important thing now is not dealing with them, but ensuring the safety of the remaining supplies." Ji Xiaoxiao's warm, dry hand gently grasped Liao Yu's cold palm. The contrast between the cold and warm hands made Liao Yu shiver, and he unconsciously squeezed Ji Xiaoxiao's hand back.

“Arjun is right. Now is not the time to deal with them. The most important thing is to safely transport the remaining supplies back to the base.”

Liao Yu had thought it through and immediately instructed the city guards to drive back to Hope Base.

One car after another sped away, leaving only Ji Xiaoxiao, Liao Yu, and the traitors behind.

"Brother Liao, Sister He, we've been waiting for you."

The driver of the last truck hurriedly called for Ji Xiaoxiao and Liao Yu to get on the truck.

Ji Xiaoxiao waved her hand and said, "You go first, wait for us about a kilometer away."

Liao Yu nodded to the driver, indicating his agreement with Ji Xiaoxiao's decision.

The city guards, who obeyed the army's orders without question, started the vehicle despite their confusion.

As the car drove further and further away, only those who were supposed to remain were left behind.

"I'll ask you one last time, who's the mastermind behind this?" Liao Yu said coldly.

The traitor remained silent, displaying an attitude of utter defiance.

Ji Xiaoxiao chuckled softly and said, "Ayu, these people are utterly heartless. They even dare to tamper with the food supplies for the 300,000 people in the base. What do you expect from them? They won't learn until they're faced with a fatal blow. They won't cooperate unless they're taught a lesson. Move aside a bit. I'm an expert at torturing people."

Ji Xiaoxiao twisted her neck to warm up.

The traitor squatting on the ground swallowed hard, feeling as if an invisible giant hand was squeezing his heart, slowly crushing it into a meat patty.

"I...I...ah..." Before he could speak, the young man next to him bit through his trachea and major artery. Blood gushed out like a fountain, splattering everyone around them with filth.

Ji Xiaoxiao quickly dodged and stood unharmed to the side.

"Judging from your resolute expression, you must be a small leader!" Ji Xiaoxiao smiled wickedly, brightly, and cruelly. "What can lowly soldiers know? Only a small leader like you can have some clues."

The leader's eyes widened in horror, realizing he had been tricked by Ji Xiaoxiao.

He bit down hard, preparing to commit suicide by biting his tongue.

"You want to die? Did you even ask me?"

Ji Xiaoxiao reacted quickly and dislocated the leader's jaw.

She slowly crouched down, her eyes gently fixed on the leader. Ji Xiaoxiao was a little apprehensive, as it was her first time using the "Enchanting Dream of the Goddess" skill from *Magic Avenue*. However, it proved to be incredibly effective. Within a minute or two, the seemingly insignificant girl, her mouth zipped up, began to rattle off the whole story.

"Shen Fei, it's him!" Ji Xiaoxiao exclaimed.

Having obtained what he wanted, Liao Yu acted without hesitation, shooting the leader dead with a single shot. Afterwards, gunfire continued, and one still-warm body after another fell to the ground, motionless.

"I should have killed him back then," Liao Yu said bitterly.

Even after killing so many people, Liao Yu was still furious looking at the still-smoking ruins.

Ji Xiaoxiao remained silent, turning and heading towards Hope Base. Liao Yu led his elite troops in a large-scale offensive; with no capable generals in Shu, Hope Base's defenses were weak. Shen Fei, having meticulously planned and plotted against them, made no attempt to conceal his true intentions; Hope Base was likely now his domain.

Ji Xiaoxiao's prediction was correct. When they returned to the vicinity of Hope Base, the tightly closed iron gate was not a crack, and Chen Fei looked smug on the towering city wall.

"Liao Yu, your grandfather, your son, your relatives are all in my hands. If you want them to live, you'll have to trade your own life for theirs."

Old Master Liao, Liao Kongmin has fallen into enemy hands. Shen Fei has undoubtedly exploited Liao Yu's weaknesses.
