Ji Xiaoxiao stood at the front, closely watching the pack of hunting dogs. Her eyes darted around, searching for the leader. There were simply too many dogs; by the time they attacked, Ji Xiaoxiao still hadn't found the leader. Left with no other choice, Ji Xiaoxiao had to multitask, fighting and killing while simultaneously searching.
Neither side was easy to deal with; you had sharp teeth, I had swords and knives. If you bit me, I'd chop you down. In no time, the small flat ground was littered with corpses—some of the city guards, some of the hunting dogs. Thick blood slowly seeped from the wounds, leaving puddles on the filthy ground.
Ji Xiaoxiao reached out and grabbed a hunting dog by the tail. With a single, sweeping move, she was unstoppable. The hunting dogs caught in the crossfire were either killed or wounded, resulting in heavy losses.
Hunting dogs are generally not very intelligent, but the pack leader is an anomaly. He is exceptionally clever and perceptive. Seeing that Ji Xiaoxiao is incredibly powerful, he uses special communication methods to order the dogs to move to another location and attack the weak and useless city guards.
Ji Xiaoxiao ran around to several battlefields where blood was thick with fighting, and every time the hunting dogs saw her, they would tuck their tails between their legs and whimper as they ran away. Ji Xiaoxiao was filled with suspicion. Standing in a deserted corner, she looked around, searching for the hunting dog leader.
Hunting dogs lack stamina and always prefer a quick victory. Although they outnumber us and are fierce and ruthless, our group is united, determined, and working together to harvest the dog meat. In the short term, the outcome is still uncertain.
The defenders were not without wisdom, only knowing how to hunt and kill animals. Once they were frightened by the hunting dogs and their morale collapsed, they were bound to be defeated.
Now, Ji Xiaoxiao's task is not to fight with insignificant figures, but to find the leader of the hounds and wage a decisive battle against him. Eliminating the hound leader as soon as possible means the hound pack, without a strategist, is no better than shrimp soldiers and crab generals, utterly vulnerable.
Ji Xiaoxiao jumped onto the tallest tree, looking down at the entire battlefield.
There were groups of dogs scattered here and there, each one more or less the same than the last, leaving Ji Xiaoxiao dazzled.
"This can't go on. I can't find the leader of the hounds with the naked eye."
Ji Xiaoxiao was secretly anxious, and her breathing became slightly disordered as a result.
The instinct to live and avoid danger is ingrained in the genes of every living being, especially intelligent beings, who possess an almost radar-like ability to anticipate danger. The hound leader is an intelligent beast that values its life and is unlikely to participate in the hunting.
Based on this deduction, Ji Xiaoxiao broadened her vision and searched the edge of the battlefield.
"What is this?"
In the upper right corner of the battlefield, there was a slightly raised hill, occupied by six black hunting dogs. Five large dogs tightly surrounded a black-and-golden-furred hound, its body robust, its head held high, its narrow eyes revealing contempt for the defenders and a thirst for blood.
So outstanding, so exceptional, that black and gold hunting dog must be the leader of the pack.
Having found her target, Ji Xiaoxiao dared not act rashly. The five imposing hunting dogs protecting the leader were like generals in an army or masters in the martial arts world; each could take on a hundred men, and their strength was not to be underestimated. However, there is a good and a bad side to everything. Although the hunting leader was tightly surrounded, seemingly safer, the level of danger remained unchanged.
Ji Xiaoxiao curled her lips and took out a large pile of embroidery needles from the Qiankun Pearl.
Embroidery needles are inexpensive and readily available, yet their tips are incredibly sharp. When force is concentrated on a single point, they can pierce through stone and mountains, and kill without leaving a trace.
Ji Xiaoxiao used her inner strength to wrap the embroidery needle. Ignoring gravity, the needle floated in mid-air, its silvery spikes slowly aiming at the wounded hunting dogs on the small hill.
As internal energy output increased, the invisible force suppressed the surrounding environment, causing space to distort.
The hunting dogs, with their keen senses, noticed that some of them whined and tucked their tails between their legs as they ran away from Ji Xiaoxiao. The leader of the hunting dogs, however, felt a chill run down his spine and instinctively looked towards Ji Xiaoxiao.
"Awoo awoo awoo..."
The leader of the hunting dogs howled loudly, and the dogs that were tasked with protecting it darted about quickly. However, in the blink of an eye, Ji Xiaoxiao launched her embroidery needle.
The embroidery needle shot through the air with lightning speed, unstoppable. The hunting dog that stood in front of the leader of the hounds was instantly killed. Ji Xiaoxiao thought that the leader of the hounds would definitely not be able to dodge her move, but to her surprise, the leader of the hounds dared to sacrifice himself. The remaining four hunting dogs squeezed behind him, using their flesh and blood to block the sharp steel needle, just to ask for a way out for their king.
The hound leader escaped unscathed, but suffered heavy losses; all five hounds perished. Ji Xiaoxiao jumped down from the tree and flew towards the small hill.
Even the leader of the hunting dogs, under Ji Xiaoxiao's command, is destined to die. Without the leader as their anchor, the other dogs either linger in battle or flee with their tails between their legs.
Humanity won this battle.
Ji Xiaoxiao, having exhausted her inner strength, sat down on the ground, panting heavily, leaning against the truck.
Liao Yu walked over excitedly, opened his mouth, and a loud bang, like a thunderclap from a clear sky, rang out.
In the fierce battle with the hounds, the defenders suffered heavy casualties; of the original three hundred men, only a little over one hundred and twenty remained. Before they could even savor the victory, misfortune struck again: four large trucks at the back of the convoy suddenly exploded and were destroyed.
The fiery red flames illuminated the earth, and thick black smoke rose into the sky, turning all four large trucks and their four loads of supplies to ashes.
Liao Yu's mouth was still open, his incredulous expression tinged with indelible sorrow.
These supplies were obtained at the cost of lives; they were meant to save lives!
Liao Yu let his hands fall limply to his sides, his usually stern face now a mixture of anger and sorrow.
"Alright, it's just a little thing, is there any need to act like you've lost your parents?"
