Chapter 505 A Different Husband (Part 5)

Ji Xiaoxiao chuckled softly, but the conversation didn't end there.

"Kang Kang," Ji Xiaoxiao said seriously, "Kang Kang, Mommy will not abandon you, so if you suddenly can't see Mommy in the future, don't be afraid. Mommy has gone out to buy groceries or go to work."

Wu Kangzhi's little face contorted in a grimace, his chubby fingers gripping and tugging at his clothes.

"Kang Kang!" Ji Xiaoxiao called out loudly.

"I'll only believe you if Mommy swears, Mommy swears," Wu Kangzhi demanded.

Ji Xiaoxiao agreed and recited the incantation with Wu Kangzhi, "Pinky promise, a hundred years of vows, never to change, a promise is a promise, a liar is a dog." They gave each other a thumbs up and stamped their seals.

Wu Kangzhi was in a great mood; his mother wouldn't abandon him anymore. In a good mood, he cried a lot in the morning, then his mouth started rumbling—he was hungry.

Ji Xiaoxiao pinched Wu Kangzhi's nose and went back to the courtyard to retrieve the ingredients. The white porridge in front of the door had already been cooked; all that was needed was to make a side dish.

Chop, chop, chop! Ji Xiaoxiao chopped away for three or four minutes, and a fragrant breakfast was served.

After a hearty meal, Ji Xiaoxiao took Wu Kangzhi for a stroll through the streets and alleys, deliberately stopping at homes with children of similar age to Wu Kangzhi, patiently chatting casually with the neighbors. As they talked, Ji Xiaoxiao grew to love this activity.

On the other side, no matter how much Wu Kangzhi pulled and tugged at Ji Xiaoxiao, Ji Xiaoxiao still smiled and talked to the aunties, saying things like the Wang family's daughter-in-law next door was pregnant and the child wasn't his, which Wu Kangzhi couldn't understand. Since Ji Xiaoxiao was right there, Wu Kangzhi boldly wandered around and encountered a group of children.

As lunchtime approached, the women, mindful of the importance of food, dispersed and went home. Ji Xiaoxiao, regaining her senses, realized Wu Kangzhi was nowhere to be found. Frantically searching, she finally found him in a small park, building a sandcastle with a group of children.

Ji Xiaoxiao sat on a park bench. It was rare for Wu Kangzhi to get along with other children, so she didn't urge him to go home for lunch and a nap today.

With playmates, Wu Kangzhi valued Ji Xiaoxiao less and less. Sometimes Ji Xiaoxiao would disappear for most of the day, but he was not afraid or sad. He would sneak into the homes of his neighbors and play all sorts of games with his good friends.

...

Now, let's talk about Wu Wentao.

After listening to Ji Xiaoxiao's words, Wu Wentao was stunned for a long time before he immediately packed his bags and went to Wu Ruo's place.

He rang the doorbell, and Wu Wentao waited for a while before Wu Ruoda opened the door, looking like he had just woken up after a long night of intense work.

"Dad, what brings you here?" Wu Ruo stepped aside to let Wu Wentao in. Wu Wentao suppressed his anger; he couldn't vent his anger outside the house, lest he become a laughingstock.

Wu Wentao went inside, and Wu Ruo closed the door behind him.

The living room was filled with a strong, pungent smell of smoke. Cigarette butts were scattered everywhere on the floor, along with beer cans, snack bags, and piles of waste paper, leaving Wu Wentao with nowhere to step.

"Dad, please sit down." Wu Ruo was weak and sleepy. He subconsciously felt that since his father was coming, his wife should serve him tea. "A Ning, A Ning, Dad is here. Pour him a cup of tea."

Upon hearing this, Wu Wentao became furious and slapped Wu Ruo across the face.

With a snap, Wu Ruo woke up.

"dad."

"Don't call me Dad. I don't have a son like you." Wu Wentao was heartbroken. The more proud his eldest son had been, the more disappointed he was now. Zhou Ning was the wife of his younger brother, whose body was barely cold. He, as the eldest brother, had taken care of his sister-in-law in bed. How could he face his younger brother, Wu Ru?

Wu Ruo didn't have the superpower of mind reading, so he knew nothing about Wu Wentao's thoughts. He just thought Wu Wentao was going through menopause, had a bad temper, and wouldn't be happy unless he got someone to yell at him. Wu Ruo considered himself a dutiful son, so he kept his mouth shut, his head drooping. He let Wu Wentao yell at him however he wanted; he was dutiful and wouldn't talk back.

"You unfilial son." Wu Wentao couldn't understand Wu Ruo's filial piety. Wu Ruo's nonchalant attitude and passive demeanor, which deeply hurt his strict father. Unambitious, unwilling to admit his mistakes, and willful to do as he pleased, he had a whole host of flaws. How had his once good son become such a wretched person?

Wu Ruo frowned. "I'll sit here and let you scold me. You old man, know when to stop. What's the point of pushing your luck? Do you really think I'm a pushover with no temper?"

"You unfilial son, kneel down before me!" Wu Wentao roared.

Wu Ruo was very unhappy. "No."

"What did you say?"

“I won’t kneel. What did I do wrong? Why should I kneel?” Wu Ruo retorted.

Wu Wentao was so angry he was practically spitting fire. "Your relationship with Zhou Ning is ambiguous, I..."

“I like Zhou Ning, I love Zhou Ning,” Wu Ruo shouted, interrupting Wu Wentao’s reprimand.

Wu Wentao, true to his name, is a scholar who is oblivious to the world around him and devotes himself solely to studying classical texts. He moved away from the bustling city center and doesn't see his son or grandson for ten days or half a month at a time, all because of his great dedication to literature.

"Tangtang, could there be some misunderstanding here?" Wu Wentao asked, half believing and half doubting.

Wu Jianzhi is indeed Wu Ru's son. When Zhou Ning was pregnant and gave birth, he stayed outside the operating room for a whole day and night.

“Uncle Wu, if you don’t believe me, you can ask other people. The neighbors in XX community heard it all clearly,” Ji Xiaoxiao said calmly.
