Chapter 505 A Different Husband (Part 5)

Wu Wentao was alarmed. Had all the neighbors heard everything? Regardless of whether the matter was true or false, the reputation of the Wu family was ruined.

“Uncle Wu, I watched you grow up. You know very well what kind of person I am. I don’t want to divorce Wu Ruo unless it’s absolutely necessary. But I really can’t stand it anymore. In the past year, Wu Ruo has become more and more unruly. Not only does she not have any ambition or work, but she also goes to Zhou Ning’s place all the time.”

Wu Wentao exclaimed in surprise, "How is this possible?"

Society is progressing, but there are still some things that cannot be crossed.

Ji Xiaoxiao's face was sorrowful and her tone was heavy. "Uncle Wu, I might as well tell you the truth. Wu Ruo has spent the night at Zhou Ning's place more than once or twice. It's at least fifteen days a month. I am his wife, but he is always fawning over a widowed woman, who is also his sister-in-law. Where does this leave me?"

Wu Wentao looked distressed and embarrassed; Wu Ruo was really going too far.

Ji Xiaoxiao lowered her head, a glint of shrewdness flashing in her bright eyes.

“Uncle Wu, you really should go back and see him,” Ji Xiaoxiao said solemnly. “Wu Ruo seems to have lost his mind. I understand that he treats me badly, since I’m a woman who has no blood relation to your Wu family. But Uncle Wu, do you know? Do you know how Wu Ruo cursed Kang Kang?”

Wu Wentao lowered his head and looked at his grandson with gentle eyes. The child was cute, well-behaved and clever, but a little thin.

"He insulted Kang Kang?" Wu Wentao's voice rose several decibels. "How dare he? How dare he insult my precious grandson?"

“Why wouldn’t he dare? He not only cursed him, but he also called Kang Kang a bastard.” Ji Xiaoxiao quickly covered Wu Kangzhi’s ears. “Uncle Wu, tell me, is this how Wu Ruo acts as a father? Does he treat Kang Kang like a son? Bastard? Ha, how could he say such a thing?”

Ji Xiaoxiao's chest heaved, and her tone turned harsh. Wu Wentao stood awkwardly motionless, looking at the innocent Wu Kangzhi. His old face felt burning hot; it would be strange if it didn't sting after being slapped hundreds of times by his own son from a distance.

Ji Xiaoxiao led Wu Kangzhi away without saying goodbye to Wu Wentao. Wu Wentao was preoccupied with how to straighten out the hopeless Wu Ruo, completely ignoring Ji Xiaoxiao's rudeness.

Back home, Ji Xiaoxiao told Wu Kangzhi to play by himself while she cleaned the house.

By noon, only 30% of the work had been completed, and Ji Xiaoxiao still had a long way to go.

Ji Xiaoxiao put down the mop and rag, washed her hands, and took Wu Kangzhi out for lunch. This process was repeated for two days, and the house cleaning was finally completed.

That day, Ji Xiaoxiao got up early and went out to buy groceries. The streets were crowded, and it took her a little longer to get back.

"Waaah... Mommy, Mommy."

As soon as Ji Xiaoxiao reached the door, she heard Wu Kangzhi's heart-wrenching cries.

"Kang Kang, Kang Kang." Ji Xiaoxiao thought something had happened to Wu Kangzhi, so she dropped the ingredients she was holding and hurriedly ran into the house.

Inside the living room, Wu Kangzhi was all alone, hugging a huge teddy bear. The teddy bear was twice the size of him, with its two-headed design, and completely enveloped Wu Kangzhi.

"Mommy, Mommy!" When Wu Kangzhi saw Ji Xiaoxiao, his eyes lit up. He threw away his teddy bear, opened his arms, and charged at her.

Ji Xiaoxiao staggered a step, her lips twitching slightly. This child looked thin and frail, but in reality, she was surprisingly heavy.

"Mommy, Mommy, Mommy." Wu Kangzhi hugged Ji Xiaoxiao's legs and rubbed his face vigorously, wiping his snot and tears all over Ji Xiaoxiao's pants.

Ji Xiaoxiao didn't care about these minor details and ruffled Wu Kangzhi's hair. "Kang Kang, did you have a nightmare?"

Wu Kangzhi shook his head vigorously, "Mommy, where did you go? Kang Kang can't find you. Mommy, are you not going to leave Kang Kang? Kang Kang, be good, Kang Kang, be good, Mommy, don't leave Kang Kang."

Hearing this, Ji Xiaoxiao smiled helplessly. Wu Kangzhi was new to the place and unfamiliar with everyone. The sudden disappearance of his only relative would frighten any other child, let alone Wu Kangzhi, who had felt insecure for the past year.

"Kang Kang." Ji Xiaoxiao squatted down to be at the same height as Wu Kangzhi. "Kang Kang, look at Mommy."

Wu Kangzhi put down his chubby little hand and looked innocently at Ji Xiaoxiao with his red eyes.

"Kang Kang, you are Mommy's child, Mommy will never abandon you."

"Mommy," Wu Kangzhi pouted, "Where did you go just now? Kang Kang couldn't find Mommy when he woke up."

Wu Kang's skill was superb; he refuted Ji Xiaoxiao's words silently.

Ji Xiaoxiao sighed and said, "Mom went out to buy meat. Didn't Kang Kang want to eat steamed meat and eggs? Mom will make it for Kang Kang tonight."

Steamed meat with egg, the original owner's unique skill, was Wu Kangzhi's most prized possession.

"Really?" Wu Kangzhi's emotions came and went quickly for a bite to eat. "Kang Kang wants to eat, Kang Kang wants to eat."

Ji Xiaoxiao chuckled softly, but the conversation didn't end there.

"Kang Kang," Ji Xiaoxiao said seriously, "Kang Kang, Mommy will not abandon you, so if you suddenly can't see Mommy in the future, don't be afraid. Mommy has gone out to buy groceries or go to work."

Wu Kangzhi's little face contorted in a grimace, his chubby fingers gripping and tugging at his clothes.

"Kang Kang!" Ji Xiaoxiao called out loudly.

"I'll only believe you if Mommy swears, Mommy swears," Wu Kangzhi demanded.

Ji Xiaoxiao agreed and recited the incantation with Wu Kangzhi, "Pinky promise, a hundred years of vows, never to change, a promise is a promise, a liar is a dog." They gave each other a thumbs up and stamped their seals.
