Chapter 62 Apocalyptic Zombies Turn to Good (Part 11)

"Am I seeing things? The bullet stopped in mid-air?" The guards moved in unison, tugging at their sleeves and rubbing their bright eyes.

"Holy crap, it really stopped! That's amazing!" She blinked repeatedly, her mouth slowly opening wide in admiration.

"Damn, why did it stop? Is this even scientific? Is it some kind of ghost?" The guards looked around, then backed away in unison, as if some unassuming monster was dressing up a doll.

The above all pertain to the guards' intense but brief mental activity over a few seconds.

As time went by, Ji Xiaoxiao grew impatient and anxious. The elevator finally arrived with a slow ding.

The elevator to the twelfth underground floor arrived. Ji Xiaoxiao, no longer wanting to waste time with the guards, unleashed a burst of internal energy, causing the paused bullets to fire back in the opposite direction. The guards, lacking Ji Xiaoxiao's abilities, tried to dodge and weave, but ultimately couldn't outrun the bullets. The screams ceased, and the guards died with blank faces and unseeing eyes.

Stepping into the elevator, she pressed the button for the next floor. Gazing at the mirror-like, gleaming cabin, Ji Xiaoxiao offered a faint smile, her rosy cheeks swaying as she examined it closely. Exquisite, perfect, without a single flaw, Ji Xiaoxiao couldn't help but beam with pride, her beautiful eyebrows practically dancing with joy.

The guards downstairs already knew what had happened upstairs, and they were all fully armed and ready, waiting in complete silence for Ji Xiaoxiao to walk right into their trap. The gunshot rang out again, and before Ji Xiaoxiao could even close her upturned lips, deafening gunshots suddenly erupted.

Gunfire erupted wildly, the smoke and fog thickening, obscuring the true situation inside the elevator. Having witnessed the terrifying and bizarre nature of Ji Xiaoxiao firsthand, the guards on the thirteenth floor, who had never directly confronted her, were already trembling with fear.

From the monitors, the guards on the twelfth floor knew that the key to defeating monsters like Ji Xiaoxiao was to strike first; otherwise, they would be doomed. Gaining the initiative meant having the upper hand in every step. Even the best preparations were useless if you couldn't use them.

When the last machine gun ran out of ammunition and the billowing smoke gradually dissipated, the guards stood at the elevator entrance, holding their breath and staring intently, craning their necks to look inside. Bullets were scattered everywhere, and the elevator car was riddled with dents, but Ji Xiaoxiao was nowhere to be seen.

This is unbelievable! I've really seen a ghost!

The guards exchanged bewildered glances, a moment of silence before their earpieces crackled with urgent cries for help. The situation was critical; without hesitation, they rushed to the scene. When they arrived, breathless, they found the guards left behind in the guardhouse dead in gruesome and horrifying ways.

Inside the guardhouse, the lights flickered, and the corpse floated in mid-air, its eyes wide open and rolled back, its neck hanging strangely from the light tube's wire.

In a post-apocalyptic world devoid of ancient magical skills, Ji Xiaoxiao easily dodges a hail of bullets with a simple "Shadow Shift" move. With nothing difficult to do and enemies easily defeated, and bored out of her mind, Ji Xiaoxiao decided to go all out and, not wanting to waste any more time, quickly reached the seventeenth floor.

On the seventeenth floor, Ji Xiaoxiao walked around for a while before stopping immediately. The surrounding environment was strangely unusual; despite her keen senses, Ji Xiaoxiao couldn't detect a trace of human presence. Something was definitely amiss, so Ji Xiaoxiao became wary and prepared for anything.

Waiting passively for something to happen will only lead to nothing. Ji Xiaoxiao started walking towards the elevator. The corridor was deserted and unusually quiet, except for the faint breathing of a person. Ji Xiaoxiao took a step and looked around. After a long while, as she turned a corner, a disgusting zombie with torn flesh and oozing pus suddenly appeared on the other side.

Startled by the sudden attack, Ji Xiaoxiao turned pale and was still in shock, but she reacted quickly. With a light tap of her right foot, she retreated rapidly, narrowly avoiding the zombie's claw attack.

Once one appeared, another followed. Zombies sprang up like mushrooms after rain, slithering around the corner and howling as they charged towards Ji Xiaoxiao. The number of zombies increased, blocking the narrow passageway, forcing Ji Xiaoxiao to retreat again and again.

Being far enough away and safe, Ji Xiaoxiao stood on tiptoe and looked into the distance. The dark mass of zombies was pushing and shoving each other, and some who had fallen to the ground had not yet been able to stand up before being trampled flat by the army behind them.

She couldn't retreat any further; Mo Chenggui was within reach, and Ji Xiaoxiao absolutely couldn't return empty-handed. With this thought, Ji Xiaoxiao's panicked expression transformed into composure. The "White Lotus Sacred Technique" rapidly circulated within her body, and invisible, colorless internal energy enveloped her, subtly forming a protective shield.

With her inner strength channeled into her feet, she leaned forward and pushed backward, like a fully drawn bowstring releasing an arrow, sending Ji Xiaoxiao flying. The impact was unimaginable; a large number of zombies were knocked into the air and onto the walls by Ji Xiaoxiao's force. After a strenuous and arduous effort, Ji Xiaoxiao, with minor injuries, arrived at the eighteenth floor of the research institute.

The eighteenth floor was square and not very big, probably no more than three hundred square meters. There wasn't much inside, just a small bed and a few beeping devices. Ji Xiaoxiao looked up and saw Mo Chenggui lying on the small bed with his eyes closed.

"Cheng Gui, it's been a long time." Ji Xiaoxiao walked up to Mo Cheng Gui and called out his name familiarly.

Mo Chenggui opened his eyes upon hearing the sound, a faint, unpleasant smile appearing on his bloodless face. "Xiaoxiao, what brings you here?"

Seemingly remembering that the research institute was not a charitable place, Mo Chenggui panicked slightly and lowered his voice, saying, "Xiaoxiao, get out of here right now. This is not a place you should be."
