The corridor was made of pure white marble, smooth and clean, with a faint, pleasant yet toxic smell of disinfectant. Small, round lamps embedded in the walls burned silently under a steady current, selflessly illuminating others. Truly, they embody the spirit of the silkworm spinning silk until death, and the candle burning until it is ash.
"Xiaopeng, Dad will definitely avenge you." The man lowered his head, his expression unreadable.
The dangers and threats lurking in the shadows remained unknown to Ji Xiaoxiao. For two short years, the family of six lived happily. Even Ji Xiaoxiao, a high school senior about to enter her final year, was always smiling in the face of her lively and energetic twins.
"You're seven years old now, you're little men. You need to listen to your teachers at school, understand?" Ji Xiaoxiao, who was on her way home during the ten-minute break between classes, stopped her nagging and slowly squatted down, looking at the twins with a loving and reluctant expression as she straightened their red scarves.
For the past two years, for various reasons, Bai Yiliufeng and Bai Yiliuyun have been practicing martial arts with Ji Xiaoxiao, and their height has increased dramatically compared to their peers. With two big, round eyes filled with impatience and reluctance, the two precocious boys reached out and patted Ji Xiaoxiao's head.
Ji Xiaoxiao wasn't a melancholic Lin Daiyu. After frowning for a moment, she patted the twins' shoulders and said reluctantly, "Alright, we're going to be late. Come to school with Mom!"
"Mom, I'm entrusting Liufeng and Liuyun to you." Ji Xiaoxiao held one child in each hand, as if entrusting her orphan to someone during a turbulent time of war, and said solemnly with an icy expression.
In her peaceful and contented days, Tie Aimei seems to have regained her youthful appearance; the weathered face of time appears noticeably younger upon closer inspection. Despite the constant beatings and kicks from those who lack money, Tie Aimei remains agile and radiant, effortlessly caring for her elderly parents and two young children.
"Qingqing, look at what you're saying. I'm Liufeng and Liuyun's biological mother. Why would I need you to ask me for help? They are Ran-ge's children. Even if something happens to me, I won't let the children I carried for ten months suffer in the slightest." Tie Aimei was slightly angry, a little reproachful for Ji Xiaoxiao's distrust of her, and also a little jealous of her daughter's kindness towards her son.
Although Ji Xiaoxiao deeply resented Tie Aimei's tendency to blindly follow others, Tie Aimei's words were reasonable. Whether intentionally or not, Ji Xiaoxiao felt completely at ease and stood steadily at the door, watching the mother and her two children, hand in hand and heart to heart, embark on a new journey.
"Mom, where are we going? The school is on the right." Bai Yiliufeng pointed to the intersection on the right, tilting his head to look at Tie Aimei, who had no expression.
Upon hearing this, Tie Aimei became uneasy, gripping Bai Yiliufeng's hand tighter and quickening her pace. The two little boys, with their short legs, struggled to keep up. Half an hour later, the group arrived at a secluded grove of trees, where Tie Aimei finally stopped.
"Mom, where is this? Why are we here?" Stepping on the broken branches and fallen leaves on the ground, Bai Yiliuyun looked around in confusion.
The grove was so desolate and forlorn that it seemed as if no one had ever lived there. The dense, dark leaves pushed and shoved each other, and the sparse wild grasses stubbornly stood tall, without a trace of human presence.
"Who's your mother? You're nothing but experimental subjects who inherited my genes, born to be slaughtered pigs and sheep." Tie Aimei flung the twins' hands away, her face full of malice.
The twins staggered a few steps, looking incredulously at their once kind and gentle mother, who was now glaring at them with murderous intent, as if she were about to devour them alive.
"Mom, what's wrong?" As the older brother, Bai Yiliufeng naturally wanted to protect his younger brother, Bai Yiliuyun. "Liuyun, come here, come to your brother's side."
Despite their confusion, the twin brothers were trapped in a dangerous situation with each other all around them. They had no choice but to stick together and work together to overcome the crisis.
“I’ve already told you I’m not your mother. Can’t you understand human language? An experimental subject is an experimental subject. No matter how human-like they look, they are still just monsters in human skin.” Tie Aimei’s expression was crazed as she kept denying the twins.
The wind suddenly picked up, and the temperature plummeted. The clouds swirled rapidly, and the sky darkened.
"Enough, Cerberus, they're still children." Unable to bear seeing the twins' plight, a man carrying a white briefcase emerged from the depths of the grove.
Tie Aimei turned her head to look at the man, and when she saw his face, her open mouth instantly closed tightly, her body began to tremble involuntarily, and she subconsciously used polite language when she spoke, "Dr. Lin, why did you come in person for such a small matter?"
Dr. Lin ignored Tie Aimei and walked up to the twins to examine them closely. After a long while, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly, and he seemed to be in a good mood.
With the basic estimation complete, Dr. Lin placed his briefcase on the ground and opened it. Inside were only two syringes and a small vial containing medicine. After injecting the fairy into the syringe, Dr. Lin called out, and four adult men appeared silently.
"Go and catch those two kids. I need to give them a sedative to prevent them from making a ruckus on the way back." Dr. Lin was very experienced and knew how to deal with children.
The Bai brothers, Bai Yiliufeng and Bai Yiliuyun, exchanged a determined look, their eyes revealing their long-held resolve and willingness to fight to the bitter end. "Better to sacrifice a friend than myself," they reasoned, and since one side was destined for heavy losses, the two brothers were willing to risk everything.
Two people, four eyes, simultaneously looked at one of the burly men, who abruptly stopped in his tracks. A deep glint flashed in the twins' eyes, then suddenly intensified, and in a short while, the burly man transformed into a gleaming golden statue.
The sudden and bizarre death startled everyone present except the twins. A moment's distraction caused the twins to sprint towards the bustling city center. Dr. Lin and the others, regaining their senses, hurriedly gave chase.
