Chapter 180 Unable to Find the Way

The Root ninja stopped in their tracks. Tsunade, seeing this, thought that she and her companions had given away some information while following them, and quickly hid.

Baiyun Yeshan and Yamashiro Aoba concealed themselves successfully, quickly blending into the surrounding trees without revealing any flaws.

However, Tsunade became somewhat clumsy when trying to hide. To be fair, she did have some skills in concealment and stealth when she was younger. But after mastering the Super Strength Fist, she fought by sweeping through everything in her path, so she didn't need any stealth techniques.

Therefore, when Tsunade was tracking the hidden figures tonight, she always seemed a bit flustered and couldn't keep up with the pace.

Tsunade took a deep breath and tightened her body to hide in the shadows of the trees, but there were always some protruding parts that were hard to conceal. She sighed inwardly, "Honestly, those two things in my chest are fine normally. But when I'm doing surveillance, they're a complete burden!"

Fortunately, the roots hadn't discovered anything wrong; they had simply reached their destination. The two teams of Root Ninja stopped in the woods, cautiously surveying the surrounding area before beginning to form hand seals.

Soon, Tsunade and the others sensed that a barrier had suddenly appeared where the Root team was located. The area covered by the barrier expanded rapidly and almost reached the location where Tsunade and the others were.

Tsunade carefully sensed the barrier and found that it was extremely well concealed; even when it was not far in front of her, there were hardly any fluctuations.

Yamashiro Aoba had some knowledge of sealing techniques, and Tsunade herself had encountered many advanced sealing techniques. However, they hadn't noticed the barrier ahead at all.

Hmph, the Root organization has to be so well hidden around Konoha Village, and a base has to be set up with such a hidden barrier, which shows there are quite a few problems!

As Tsunade was pondering, a deep passage suddenly appeared on the ground within the barrier, from which a team of Root ninjas emerged and met up with the two returning Root ninja teams.

At this moment, the night wind was howling and the other party was speaking very softly, so Tsunade could only vaguely hear some words that sounded like an adult's orders, experimental materials, or the sixth batch.

Even though she was mentally prepared, Root's words still stirred up Tsunade's emotions and anger. She couldn't help but recall some information she had secretly gathered over the past few months.

Things like the giant light screen in the sky revealing the darkness of Konoha on the night of the Uchiha massacre, the Root using Konoha ninja orphans for human experiments, and the Sarutobi clan embezzling village property—each one sounds shocking.

Tsunade heard all of this from drunken bastards and even from wounded soldiers dying in the hospital.

Some even mentioned experimental records and mass graves, causing Tsunade's heart to surge with turmoil. It was then that she realized she could no longer endure it.

Konoha has been ruled by these old guys for so many years that any solid evidence has been covered up.

All she could find were some muttered words, and even those who, once they regained consciousness, vehemently denied ever saying those words.

After a period of investigation, Tsunade felt that there seemed to be many more spies watching her, and those who had leaked information were no longer willing to talk to her.

In order to find out the truth, Tsunade had no choice but to take the risk and embark on a tracking investigation with Hayama Shirakumo and Aoba Yamashiro.

"Lady Tsunade, these Root ninjas have already entered. What should we do?"

Silently, Shirayuki and Hayama moved near Tsunade to ask her about the procedures. Today, they had originally intended to investigate the Root organization, not delve into its base; doing so would have meant a complete breakdown in relations.

Tsunade was also hesitating at this moment. Should she directly intercept these Root ninjas and attack Danzo, or should she look for an opportunity to infiltrate the base to investigate before taking action?

Without proper preparation, it's difficult to infiltrate such a well-hidden base without alerting the personnel inside if the barrier is breached. If a conflict breaks out outside, and the personnel inside escape or destroy internal documents and materials, all the effort will be wasted.

Tsunade, her mind filled with conflicting thoughts, was preparing to lead Shirayuki and the others to retreat, intending to memorize the location and explore it later. Suddenly, her gaze fell upon a farmer who was unconscious, his mouth still half-open, and a flash of inspiration struck her.

"White clouds and green leaves, mountain city and green leaves!"

Tsunade whispered to the two of them, "You two step back a bit. Aoba, summon a crow to create some noise and attract attention."

"Hayama, you keep an eye on Aoba. If things go wrong, retreat immediately and stay hidden."

Upon hearing Tsunade's words, Baiyun Yeshan and the others immediately understood that she wanted them to stay behind and take action. They exchanged a glance and advised, "Hokage-sama, your status is too high. You should go back first. We two can investigate this place."

Faced with their advice, Tsunade's expression was serious and her tone firm, "You two should leave first! I have my own special methods of intelligence gathering, but I need you to help me divert their attention."

"Just make a little noise later, and if things get weird, get out of there quickly!"

Seeing Tsunade's resolute attitude, Baiyun Yeshan and the others could not say anything more and could only obey and leave.

After they left, Tsunade bit her finger, formed a hand seal, and pressed it to the ground, chanting, "Summoning Jutsu!"

As the small psychic array appeared, a slug the size of a broad bean emerged.

"Lady Tsunade, sob sob sob."

As soon as the slug appeared, it greeted Tsunade with practiced ease, but its voice was quickly muffled by Tsunade's hand.

"Shh, live slug, don't speak yet, listen to me."

There's a secret base at the root level ahead that needs to be explored, but it's protected by a barrier, and going there would alert someone. See that farmer with his mouth open? I'll send you to him in a bit. Please enter his body, and when the time is right, come out and use a reverse necromancy spell to summon me there.”

Despite having her mouth covered, the slug remained very good-natured. After Tsunade released her, she wasn't agitated at all; instead, she spoke softly:

"But with my current small size and limited chakra reserves, using reverse summoning would be very difficult for you, Lady Tsunade. You might even be in danger."

"Don't worry, I believe you. Besides, I'm perfectly healthy, nothing will happen to me!"

Tsunade remained unfazed by the slug's doubts, patting her chest as she assured it.

Wow—Wow—

Just then, a flock of crows suddenly took flight from the edge of the forest, followed by a harsh, hoarse cawing that sounded desolate and irritating in the dim light of the woods.

"Now's the time, let's go."

Tsunade noticed that all the Root ninjas were focused on the crow's actions. She flicked her fingers, and the slug landed silently on the unconscious farmer. Then, the slug slowly moved and quietly slipped into his mouth.
