Chapter 21 Working Like a Slave in the Underworld

After undergoing the trial of the bandit suppression mission, Hyuga Kaze officially joined the cannon fodder ninja squad and began his life as a servant of Konoha.

During this period, Hyuga Kaze's daily routine, besides eliminating bandits, mainly consisted of patrolling the area around Konoha Village and secretly searching for and pursuing infiltrating spies. He basically had no rest.

In just a few months, they experienced several thrilling battles.

Having experienced the Nine-Tails' attack a few years ago, the villagers of Konoha already harbored suspicions about the village's safety. The recent spy attacks have further intensified their suspicions and insecurity, leading them to yearn for a stable and peaceful life.

Under these circumstances, Konoha Village must take some concrete actions to respond to those doubts and expectations.

Therefore, under the earnest expectations of the villagers, the Konoha Village leadership made a firm decision and took drastic measures to eliminate spies and bandits with extraordinary efforts and sustained hard work, and to further promote the safety and stability of Konoha Village.

Yes, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, made a great decision, so Hyuga Kaze and his gang of underlings had to exert great effort and do big things, being used like cattle and horses.

In the process of exploration, tracking, and battle, Hyuga Kaze had to reveal more of his strength. He became proficient in exploration, killing enemies, rescuing and healing teammates. It seemed as if his strength was improving rapidly in actual combat, and he gradually grew from a novice into an excellent ninja who could stand alone on the battlefield.

His two supporting teammates performed much worse, falling behind Hyuga Kaze. After all, not everyone is like Minato Namikaze, able to stand out from ordinary ninjas.

Early that morning, Hyuga Kaze set off on his patrol again. They first patrolled several main commercial streets of Konoha, and then patrolled the areas around the village where it was easy to hide. Basically, the whole day was spent on patrolling.

"Sarutobi, you old dog, you really treat me like a donkey!" Hyuga Kaze gritted his teeth inwardly, cursing the old monkey, while maintaining a calm and collected demeanor, as if he were diligently patrolling and observing.

In his previous life, he was a seasoned adult, having experienced many strange and eccentric leaders. He had long since learned to coordinate himself and knew how to appear outwardly extremely busy while secretly slacking off without making a sound.

Moreover, these tasks are child's play for Hyuga Kaze, whose true strength is between that of a Jonin and an Elite Jonin.

Therefore, Hyuga Kaze was able to handle his work while simultaneously simulating battles in his mind and comprehending techniques. Although he possessed unparalleled talent and extraordinary comprehension, he lacked Deep Blue, so he could only improve little by little by using his own cheat codes.

As evening fell, the dappled sunlight cast its glow upon the tranquil forest, the leaves rustling gently in the breeze. The Hyuga Kaze squad, patrolling the dense forest on the outskirts of Konoha Village, were nearing the end of their day's mission.

At that moment, Hyuga Kaze's intuition alerted him that something was wrong; there were enemies within a 30-meter radius. He immediately exchanged a subtle glance with Chunin Captain Kobayashi Yoshiyasu, while simultaneously flicking his left hand three times as if by accident—a pre-arranged signal.

Kobayashi Yoshiyasu was experienced and couldn't detect anything unusual. Inoue Nobuyuki and Tanakagawa, on the other hand, had much less control. Although their expressions didn't change, their hands unconsciously reached for the blades at their waists.

Just then, the enemy launched the first attack! With a shout of Lightning Release: Lightning Wave, a blinding bolt of lightning tore through space, striking Inoue Nobuhiro head-on. Wounded and falling to the ground amidst the lightning, he groaned in pain. Tanakagawa, on the other hand, was much luckier, managing to step back in time and only suffering minor damage, his body temporarily numb.

At that moment, two masked ninjas wearing cloud-shaped headbands rushed out from a tree a dozen meters to the left, wielding short blades and quickly approaching.

"Go! Chuan, send the signal quickly!"

Yoshiyasu Kobayashi decisively stepped forward, wielding his ninja sword, to meet the enemy charging at the forefront. Their figures clashed, the swords striking each other with a piercing metallic clang, and for a moment they were locked in a fierce and evenly matched battle.

"Go to hell!"

The slightly lagging Cloud Ninja charged straight at Tanakagawa and slashed with his sword. The two Cloud Ninja moved swiftly and ruthlessly, each strike filled with a deadly threat.

"Eye roll!"

Hyuga Kaze formed hand seals, channeling his chakra, veins bulging around his eyes, before swiftly joining the battle, employing Gentle Fist—Eight Trigrams Palm—to intercept the enemy's attacks. As for the Cloud Ninja, he decided to put in a little more effort and take him down to avenge his family.

The two Cloud Ninja lurking around Konoha Village appeared to be Chunin, a conclusion Hyuga Kaze reached after a few exchanges, putting him slightly at ease. However, his teammates were not performing well; Inoue Nobuyuki was completely immobilized, Tanaka Gawa was still paralyzed, and Kobayashi Yoshiyasu was gradually losing ground in the battle, sustaining minor injuries.

"I still have to rely on myself!" Hinata Kaze thought to himself, and used even more of his strength. He used a mysterious footwork to bypass the enemy's attack and unleashed the Gentle Fist Eight Trigrams Palm - Thirty-Two Palms from behind!

The Cloud Ninja had not expected Hyuga Kaze to have such strength at such a young age. They were instantly struck, then took a full combo of Bagua Palm attacks, and finally collapsed unwillingly with ruptured internal organs.

After knocking down an enemy, Hyuga Kaze didn't linger. He immediately turned and rushed to the battlefield, cooperating with Captain Kobayashi Yoshiyasu to complete the final kill. Only then did Tanakagawa recover. He pulled a signal flare from his ninja tool pouch and froze.

The battle was over, and Hyuga Kaze immediately rushed to Inoue Nobuyuki to begin first aid. This cannon fodder genin posed no threat to him and was not an enemy, so he had to save him if he could.

Beside him, Yoshiyasu Kobayashi skillfully bandaged himself. He had been through many battles and knew some basic first aid.

"I'm sorry, I held you back," Tanakagawa said with a guilty look as he watched Hinata Kaze use his hemostasis technique to heal his teammate, his heart filled with self-reproach and lingering fear.

"Don't say that, we've always been on the same team," Captain Yoshiyasu Kobayashi patted him on the shoulder, trying to comfort him.

"But I didn't help at all, and I even had to be protected by Hyuga Kaze," Tanakagawa was still conflicted.

"Don't belittle yourself. Hyuga Kaze is, after all, a genius from the prestigious Hyuga clan. If he weren't strong, he wouldn't have been assigned to a mission team so early," Kobayashi Yoshiyasu continued to comfort him.

Hinata Kaze finished his treatment. "My strength is still far from enough. I can't be considered a genius. This time, the enemy underestimated me because of my young age. Moreover, he was focused on Kawa's movements, which distracted him and allowed me to sneak behind him and launch an attack."

"Don't underestimate yourself, Feng. Your strength has improved very quickly in the past few months. Even the two of us commoner ninjas can't keep up with your progress," Kobayashi Yoshiyasu waved his hand to stop Hyuga Feng from interrupting, and continued, "I have already reported your achievements and progress. With this merit, and after accumulating more mission experience, I believe you will be promoted soon."

Tanakagawa and Inoue, who had just woken up, showed expressions of admiration and envy. Hyuga Kaze was modest on the surface, but calm in his heart. He was just a more useful ox or horse.
