Zuo Ling and Pei Nan were at a loss for what to do. With their current strength, the few people Zhao Hongyi brought wouldn't even be a match for them.
Even if they had the guts, they wouldn't dare touch the military.
Noticing that his older siblings were in a bad mood, Xiao Hao quietly asked, "Are we moving again?"
The place is spacious, with a river in front of the door. Although the river water is not as plentiful as when they first arrived, there is plenty of room to run and jump. After living here for a while, Xiao Hao got used to it and even felt that it was better than living on Noah's Ark.
The two little ones are in perfect harmony with their owner.
A little paw patted Zuo Ling, "Are you going to run away or not? You'd better make up your mind quickly."
The other one, woof woof woof, run, hurry up!
Ten minutes later, Zuo Ling invited Zhao Hongyi inside.
Zhao Hongyi chuckled and asked, "Have you thought it through?"
Zuo Lingdao pulled out two large plastic bottles:
"Sir, the secret to our vegetable growing is all in here. I got it from an old farmer, but he passed away before he could tell us the recipe. Please take it back and study it. I won't charge you; consider it my way of contributing to the army."
Zuo Ling went all out and drank two large bottles of water from the space well, wanting to know what was in it.
The military has plenty of talent; who knows, they might actually be able to allocate some of it.
Zhao Hongyi's heart sank. Regardless of whether what Zuo Ling said was true or false, he could tell that Zuo Ling genuinely did not want to return to the army with him.
He took the plastic bottle and examined it closely. It was greenish-yellow, and looked like a liquid jelly, but not quite. If Zuo Ling hadn't said anything, he would have thought it was a beverage.
Zuo Ling added:
"Don't use too much at once. Just one bottle capful, diluted in a bucket of water, and use it to water the ground. The vegetables will grow better. I didn't believe it at first, so I didn't use it, and the vegetables didn't grow well. If you don't believe me, ask He Guiqi. Last time he came, I didn't use it, and the vegetables weren't growing as well as they are now."
He Guiqi puffed out his chest and quickly tried to make amends:
"Sir, last time I came, the tomatoes were barely bigger than a fingernail, and the cucumbers were only about the length of a finger."
Zhao Hongyi glanced at him sideways. "You little brats, are you two putting on a show for me? Am I stupid, or do you think I'm stupid?"
"Commander, I really didn't lie to you." Zuo Ling's sincerity was almost overflowing.
Zhao Hongyi snorted inwardly. He believed that the growth agent given by Zuo Ling would work, but he did not believe that Zuo Ling did not have a formula.
There are always experts among the common people, and the family's secret recipe is a closely guarded secret. It's understandable that Zuo Ling doesn't want to reveal it.
In the face of a major disaster, this is not the time to worry about one's own family; it concerns the lives of countless people, and he cannot make that decision.
"Someone come here."
A soldier entered from outside. Zhao Hongyi handed him the plastic bottle and instructed him:
"This is of utmost importance. If you are here, the bottle is here; if you are not here, the bottle must still be here..."
Zuo Ling's mouth twitched upon hearing this. What do you mean, "Even if you're not here, the bottle must still be here. If you're not here, how can you protect the things?"
"Take one bottle to the R&D department and have them analyze its ingredients. Send the other bottle to the planting team, and use one capful to dilute a bucket of water to water the vegetable garden. Got it?"
“Understood,” the soldier shouted.
He always needs to take some vegetables back with him after glancing at his little vegetable garden to make his point.
Zuo Ling immediately understood: "Chief, the vegetables from my garden would fetch an astronomical price if sold outside, wouldn't they?"
"If you're willing to discuss the price, that makes things easier," Zhao Hongyi said with a smile. "What do you want?"
Zuo Ling first held up two fingers, then thought for a moment and held up one more: "I don't need much, just 300 bullets, and you can pick as many vegetables as you like from the garden."
It's the apocalypse, who would give things away for free!
If she were to sell them on the market, she could get 500 bullets for them. But considering they are soldiers, she should just accept the loss.
Zhao Hongyi readily agreed: "We don't have many bullets with us. We'll give you 100 rounds first, and the remaining 200 rounds will be supplied later."
What does "supplementary" mean?
Zhao Hongyi's eyes were playful: "Don't worry, I can't run away. Let's wait and see until we get the news."
Should we... wait a little longer? Zuo Ling was completely taken aback. What, are you blaming me now?!
Leaving 100 bullets behind, Zhao Hongyi ordered the soldiers to pick vegetables.
The soldiers who entered the courtyard later saw the vegetables in the small garden, their eyes gleaming like hungry wolves. They took two steps forward, then stopped abruptly and looked at their commander with such longing in their eyes that it was unbearable to look at them.
"Each of you pick one and eat it. Take the rest back to the army. Be careful not to damage the seedlings."
With a roar, the soldiers reached out their hands for the tomatoes and cucumbers.
"Don't forget the three outside." Zhao Hongyi hadn't forgotten that there were still three by the river.
The soldiers agreed as they stuffed food into their mouths.
Xueye was furious and barked at Zuo Lingwang, "Woof, woof! They went into the vegetable garden, why don't you hit them?"
The waterfall protects our home; little paws scratch Zuo Ling, trying to steal our things—beat them up!
Zhao Hongyi's attention was entirely focused on the vegetable garden. Only after he finished his business did he notice the two small animals in the yard.
One looked like a German Shepherd, and the other was a pet rabbit. They licked their lips and swallowed their saliva. How long had it been since they had eaten fresh meat?
Xiao Hao hugged Xue Ye's neck and whispered:
“My sister traded vegetables for 300 rounds of ammunition with them,” he glanced at Zhao Hongyi, “but they haven’t given us 200 rounds yet.”
He wondered to himself, what if they try to renege on their debt?
Without any hesitation, Zhao Hongyi picked all the vegetables he could from the small garden, loaded them onto the military truck, and sent them back to the unit.
Half of the people went with the car, while he and the other half stayed behind, as did He Guiqi.
Zuo Ling kept a straight face, thinking to herself, "Don't expect me to feed you."
Seeing through Zuo Ling's little scheme at a glance, Zhao Hongyi chuckled and said, "Alright, now that the things have been delivered, I feel relieved. I won't bother you any longer, young lady."
