Upon unfolding it, Bai Liguo burst into laughter:
"A submarine? She wants a submarine, hahaha, what audacity, she's a descendant of the Bai family."
Chief Mei snorted three times in a row, then slammed his legs heavily onto the coffee table.
"If it weren't for the fact that she has half of the Bai family blood in her, I would have pointed a gun at her head and she would have had to agree whether she wanted to or not."
Commander Mei, who appears dignified and imposing in public, actually behaves like a scoundrel in private.
Bai Liguo gave a mocking laugh:
"How about we give her the person and I'll give her a submarine? Come on, come on, let's discuss it."
Chief Mei snorted, "Dream on!"
Bai Liguo thought to himself, "Everyone from top to bottom is going crazy from the lack of vegetables, so you might as well eat whatever you want."
If other military regions knew Zuo Ling's abilities, they could get her not only submarines, but also rockets.
Chief Mei closed his eyes, thought for a moment, and said:
"Didn't you say she had spatial abilities? How did it become plant-based abilities?"
The people at the Agricultural Research Institute couldn't grow vegetables, but Zuo Ling could, clearly using unconventional methods. Coming from the Mei family, he naturally knew about the existence of people with superpowers.
In particular, the fact that Zuo Ling took out two bottles of growth agent but couldn't produce the formula further confirmed that his guess was correct.
"How would I know? I'm wondering about that myself."
Before the apocalypse, Zuo Ling purchased a large amount of supplies, and Bai Liguo guessed that she might have spatial abilities.
But Zuo Ling's small vegetable garden made him doubt his own guess.
Chief Mei sat up abruptly: "Could she be someone with both spatial and plant-based abilities?"
Bai Liguo rolled his eyes at him: "In all these years, have you ever seen anyone awaken two superpowers?"
Having never seen it before, Chief Mei was disheartened, but still held onto hope: "What if?"
"I never have those kinds of dreams."
The catastrophe a century ago led to the decline of people with superpowers, and the number of energy crystals in existence is extremely small. It is difficult to awaken even one superpower, let alone two.
"Reporting." came the orderly's voice.
"Come in."
"Sir, the analysis report is out."
After receiving the report, Chief Mei quickly turned to the last page.
In short: the medicine contains an unknown substance of unknown composition, and further analysis is being conducted using other methods.
Bai Liguo leaned closer, his tone teasing: "Oh, you couldn't figure it out? Your researchers aren't very good."
Chief Mei angrily threw the report at him: "Your people are so great, let your people analyze it."
Bai Liguo said with a smile:
"I don't need to go to that trouble. I know without analysis that it definitely contains extremely strong vitality. Vitality is something that is hard to explain and cannot be analyzed by analytical instruments."
"Report." The orderly's voice came from outside the door again.
Chief Mei was furious at Bai Liguo's mockery and asked impatiently, "What is it now?"
The commander was angry, and the orderly hesitated for a moment before saying, "Sir, your dinner has arrived. Should I take it in?"
When the food arrived, Chief Mei's eyes lit up, and he sat up straight: "Come in."
The orderly pushed in the food cart, which contained scrambled eggs with tomatoes, cucumber salad, stir-fried lettuce with black bean dace, stir-fried cured pork with scallions, and four large steamed buns made from white flour.
The dishes are extremely ordinary, yet they are comparable to a pre-apocalyptic abalone and lobster feast.
Bai Liguo was drooling. "Old buddy, the food's pretty good."
Chief Mei sighed:
"Thanks to your niece, I haven't had such a sumptuous meal in a long time. Come on, come on, let's eat."
The two couldn't wait to pick up their chopsticks and put the food in their mouths. The portions weren't large, and they finished the dishes before they were even full.
One person was leaning on one end of the sofa, sprawled out, showing no signs of being a high-ranking leader.
Chief Mei sighed, patting his belly:
"Without vegetables, I can barely even go to the toilet. Didn't you see? The day the vegetables were delivered, those old guys almost started fighting over them."
He turned to look at Bai Liguo: "Even your niece's dog eats better than I do."
In this apocalyptic world where people can't even get enough to eat, Zuo Ling is able to support the Blackbacks of the Wine Flower Kingdom, which makes Chief Mei feel incredibly envious.
Bai Liguo laughed loudly: "That's exactly what my son said. He said he's living worse than his cousin's dog, whose fur is shinier than his."
The two of them were laughing so hard they almost cried, but as they laughed, they stopped and their faces gradually darkened.
"Old Bai, when will this ever end?"
Bai Liguo had no answer. With Kyoto already fallen, it wouldn't be surprising if any natural disaster occurred.
After a while, Chief Mei asked again:
"How did that brat from the Ding family end up getting involved with Zuo Ling?"
Pei Nansheng's appearance is well-known among the major hidden families; the higher-ups and elite members of each family basically all know Pei Nansheng.
Bai Liguo shook his head:
“I don’t know either. The internal strife in the Ding family is inextricably linked to those two. Old Mei, you must keep their information to yourself. I’m afraid that reclusive old man in the Ding family might do something to harm them.”
"With so many people around, I can't guarantee anything. I can only guarantee that I won't tell anyone, but I'm afraid someone will recognize them."
The old man was telling the truth, and Bai Liguo naturally couldn't force him to.
...
Knowing that Zuo Ling had something to ask for, Zhao Hongyi stopped sending people to surround the courtyard, arranged to send someone to help them move the next day, and then left with his men.
Professor Jin and his wife left with Chief Mei.
After closing the courtyard gate, Zuo Ling said to Pei Nansheng, "Our identities as superhumans can no longer be hidden."
Pei Nansheng knew, of course, that he couldn't hide it anymore. Chief Mei came from a reclusive family, and his grand arrival showed that he couldn't keep it a secret.
The reason for not revealing the truth was to leave room for each other.
