Chapter 268 A Chance

"Alright, for the sake of that 10 million, I'll give you one chance to ask me for help."

She leaned down and stared into Zheng Ming's eyes:

"Do you want to use this opportunity to save her? Think it over before you answer. I'm only giving you one chance. Once you've used it, the 10 million debt will be settled."

Zheng Ming felt a tightness in his throat. He had come to beg Zuo Ling, hoping that Zuo Ling would save Gao Manshu for the sake of the 10 million.

He dared not voice his thoughts for fear of angering Zuo Ling, but Zuo Ling spoke them out herself.

Zheng Ming did not think he was wrong to abandon Zuo Ling and choose Gao Manshu, who could provide him with a wealthy life.

At least, he got 10 million from Gao Manshu and arranged Zuo Ling's future life, didn't he?

Compared to men who transfer assets and leave their wives with nothing, Zheng Ming is much better; he's practically a model ex-husband.

After feeling guilty for a few days, he was quickly blinded by material desires. If the happy time hadn't been so short, he would have forgotten who Zuo Ling was.

During the years he was imprisoned in the American base, he often thought of Zuo Ling, wondering if it was because he was greedy and snobbish that he was being punished, and that God had made him suffer such a great calamity.

He used to think that Zuo Ling was a burden to him, but after being saved by Zuo Ling, he was shocked to realize that Zuo Ling, who had left him, was living such a carefree and wonderful life.

It turned out that he was not good enough for her! The intense sense of disappointment tormented him, keeping him awake for several nights.

"Have you thought it through? You only have one chance. Next time, even if you kneel to your death in front of me, I won't lift a finger."

Zheng Ming stared blankly at that familiar yet unfamiliar face, which was even more handsome than before, but whose eyes held a cold indifference and cruelty that could freeze a person to death.

If the sea serpent incident hadn't happened, Zheng Ming thought Zuo Ling was just saying things out of anger.

Having witnessed Zuo Ling ignoring the villagers dying one by one, he knew that what Zuo Ling said was true.

His Adam's apple bobbed and twitched with difficulty. "I've thought it through. Please, please save her."

Zuo Ling straightened up. "Think it over. This is your only chance. Once you've used it, don't bring up feelings again. Remember that, don't forget."

When Zheng Mingzhen brought Zuo Ling back, everyone on the boat was completely astonished.

Everyone speculated about what conditions Zheng Ming had offered to bring this cold-hearted woman back.

Guo Qi, Yang Chengang, He Xiao, Lin Sao, and others came forward to greet them.

Zuo Ling nodded in acknowledgment: "You all go about your business, I'll go and see him."

The implication is clear: stop following me, go do what you're supposed to do.

Unlike passenger ships, cargo ships don't have many proper rest cabins. Zheng Ming and Gao Manshu stayed in a place that looked like a storage room.

Dark, cramped, and unclean—forget about it. The advantage is that it's just the two of them, so it's quite peaceful.

There was a raw smell in the house.

Gao Manshu was so ill that she couldn't get out of bed, and she ate, drank, and relieved herself all in the room, so naturally, the smell was not pleasant.

Living there all along, Zheng Ming hadn't noticed anything amiss, but after going out for a walk, he sensed something was wrong. His face flushed red, and he said sheepishly:

"I'm sorry, I apologize, the air isn't circulating well, it doesn't smell good."

Zuo Ling didn't say anything, but took out a mask from her backpack and put it on.

Zheng Ming's face turned even redder. Zuo Ling's undisguised disgust felt like a resounding slap across his face.

That's right, it's disdain!

To treat her ex-husband's current wife, she has to act as if she's hardworking, tireless, and doesn't mind the stench; only then would she be considered sick.
