Chapter 581: Gave Birth

"Sister...." Xiao Bei was somewhat at blank space.

Xin He gentlely stroked Xiao Bei’s head, whispering, "It’s okay, he won’t let anything happen to him. Don’t cry, and don’t be afraid, your sister is here for you."

Xiao Bei shook his head vigorously, "Xiao Bei is not scared! Xiao Bei is not scared at all! If sister isn’t afraid, Xiao Bei mustn’t be either! Brother-in-law will be okay!"

Xin He forced a smile, unclear if out of humor or not, "Yes, he once promised, he won’t let anything happen to him, and I believe him."

Xin He lowered her head to gently rub her stomach, whispering to Ah Guai in her womb, you must believe him too.

In recent days, Xiao Bei and Xiao Chaihuo were concerned and stopped going to school. Instead, they stayed at home with Xin He, their hearts hanging high due to the lack of clear-cut news.

One night, Xiao Bei cautiously asked Xiao Chaihuo, "Could the brother-in-law really be dead?" His voice trembled slightly out of fear.

He dared not express even a bit of worry in front of Ji Xinhe, because Xiao Chaihuo had said, they must be strong so that Xinhe could be stronger, and they needed to believe in Mu Houchu so that Ji Xin He could also remain steadfast in her belief. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

In the dark night, Xiao Chaihuo, with eyes downcast faintly: "I don’t know."

"If brother-in-law really died, sister would surely be heartbroken. Sister, she....." Xiao Bei broke off, choking back his tears.

Xiao Chaihuo remained silent for a long while before finally saying, "Everything will pass."

The truth about whether Mu Houchu was dead or alive would eventually come out.

If Mu Houchu really did die, her grief would ultimately fade away.

For them now, there’s nothing they could do but wait for time to deliver the answer.

Xiao Bei stammered in tears, "If brother-in-law really died, would you be sad?"

Xiao Chaihuo’s eyes were indistinct in the night. In a calm voice, he slowly replied, "I am only afraid that she would be sad."

He had been an orphan since childhood. When he met Ji Xinhe, he finally had someone treat him like a human being. She took him in, cared for him, sent him to school, and let him learn from her. He is not as passionate and enthusiastic as Xiao Bei.

All he knew was that she was the only person in this world that he wanted to guard with his life. Maybe it was out of gratitude, or perhaps because of some other emotions. But he was just like this. He didn’t want much. He just hoped to see her happy.

He wasn’t scared that Mu Houchu might die; what he was afraid of was that she would be distraught because of this man’s death. He knew how important this man was to her.

So, he was also afraid.

Xiao Bei, who is innocent and straightforward, didn’t understand Xiao Chaihuo’s words. Rubbing his eyes in confusion, he asked, "Then what should we do now?"

"Let’s get some sleep first, and get up early tomorrow morning."

But just as Xiao Chaihuo finished saying this, they heard a sudden cry from a maid outside, "The madam is going into labor!"

Xiao Chaihuo jumped out of bed, and without properly putting on his shoes, rushed out of the room.

Xiao Bei sat there, stunned for a moment. When reality set in, he quickly wiped away his tears and run outside as well.

Despite it being late at night, the entire Mu Mansion was lit up.

The maids and servant boys were all running around hecticly, and a few fast-legged ones were already on their way to find the midwife and the doctor.

Just in case, a midwife was already living in the mansion. Everything needed for child birth was prepared well ahead of time, so there weren’t too much of a rush.

By the time Xiao Bei and Xiao Chaihuo arrived, the midwife was already in the room. She ordered them to stay outside, "You can’t be in the room while the woman is giving birth!"

So Xiao Bei and Xiao Chaihuo had no choice but to wait anxiously outside.

Inside the room, Xin He was already sweating profusely from the pain. Shulan’s eyes were red with anxiety, "Midwife, is the baby coming out soon? Isn’t it supposed to be next month? She’s not due for a few more days, why is she delivering early?"

The midwife assured her, "It’s okay, it’s just a few days early. This is normal. Go and remind them about the ginseng soup in the kitchen. Childbirth is physically exhausting, without the soup she might not be able to hold out."

Shulan hastily agreed and ran to the kitchen.

Xiaoyu stayed by Ji Xinhe’s bedside. Her typically calm eyes were red. Holding Xin He’s hand, she said, "Madam, you must hold on. You must safely give birth to the young master, and wait for the master to come home together. The master will be safe, and when he comes back, he would want to see Madam and the young master are safe too."

Xin He was pale from the pain, gripping Xiaoyu’s hand as if her life depended on it. She nodded her head with great difficulty.

She said she would wait for him. She believed in him. She and Ah Guai would wait together for his return.

That night was incredibly tough for everyone in the Mu Mansion. The pained cries of Xin He from time to time made Xiao Bei and Xiao Chaihuo’s hearts feel like they were being clenched tightly.

They stayed up all night, and just when the sky started to brighten, the gatekeeper suddenly announced that a guest had arrived.

Xiao Bei waved his hand impatiently, "What guest? Our mansion doesn’t entertain guests!"

"He said his surname is Song," the boy servant replied.

Just as Xiao Bei was about to reject, Xiao Chaihuo suddenly said, "Please let him in."

"Yes."

Xiao Bei quickly asked, "Who is this person?"

"Perhaps, someone who knows the whereabouts of Marquis Mu."

When Song Xi hurriedly entered, Xiao Chaihuo immediately asked, "Do you have any news?"

Song Xi recognised Xiao Chaihuo since he was often with Ji Xinhe, and without reservation, he said, "Yesterday, our search party discovered a secret code that Mu Houchu left on the mountain. He should still be alive. I have already sent someone to investigate further."

Xiaoyu, who had just come out from the room, was startled by the news. The water basin in her hand fell to the ground, "Really?!"

Song Xi nodded, "Unless I was certain, I wouldn’t have come."

Xiaoyu quickly ran back in, grabbing Xin He’s hand, "Madam, master is alive! Master is still alive, Madam!"

Xin He, who was already exhausted, was shocked awake by the news and opened her eyes, gasping, "Really?"

Xiaoyu’s eyes were red, and she choked, "It’s true. Young Master Song Xi just came and confirmed it. The master will come back safely. Madam, you must also hang in there. If anything happened to you when he’s back, what’s he going to do?"

The midwife was getting anxious on one side, "Madam, push harder!"

Xin He clenched Xiaoyu’s hand tightly and mustered all her strength to push once again.

Outside the door, Xiao Chaihuo and Xiao Bei were waiting in apprehension.

Just as Song Xi was about to ask another question, a baby’s loud cry suddenly rang out from inside the room.
