Chapter Thirty-Eight Maintenance

“Hey, you all think my dad is doing so well, but he doesn’t actually earn much money. My mom, my brother, and I live off his meager salary every month. We’re not starving, but we don’t have much income either. If only I knew how to do business, I could help out my family.”

Miss Guo, whether out of carelessness or something else, told Xi Chun that she had finished telling Xi Chun about her family situation in no time. Even though it was only their first meeting, Xi Chun felt as if she was carrying someone else's secrets.

Xi Chun wasn't in the habit of opening up to others on the first meeting, so she just comforted her: "Your parents are both alive, that's enough. Besides, if you want to do business, there are plenty of people doing it on this street. If you have this idea, as long as your family agrees, you can give it a try."

"Really? That's what I was thinking too. I'll discuss it with my parents when I get home." Miss Guo happily went back home.

“There are quite a few thugs in this city. We should be more careful in the future. If we run into those two again, we shouldn’t give them a friendly look. I’d rather lose their business than have people talk about us like that.”

After everyone left, Xichun spoke to the three of them.

They all earn money honestly and encounter all sorts of difficult clients. In her modern life, she was used to dealing with all sorts of nagging and difficult clients, so she had a better mental fortitude than them.

“Xichun, we understand. We earn our money honestly and uprightly, so we don’t need to be afraid of them. If they dare to come again, we’ll call the constables to teach them a lesson. Otherwise, they’ll think we country folk are easy to bully. I’m quite strong too.”

Aunt Zhang also spoke up. At first, she was a little ashamed and indignant, after all, the two people's words were disgusting. But after thinking about it, she thought, what's the big deal? It's not like they're doing any petty theft.

"That's right, let's see if they dare to bully us again when I'm taller." Taozi was also a little angry, but he hadn't started to grow taller yet and was shorter than Xichun, which was why those two said those things to him.

"Of course, Taozi, you're not old enough to grow taller yet. When you're taller and stronger than all of us, let's see who dares to bully us," Xichun comforted him.

In the afternoon, Qiangzi heard about their situation and came over to check on them. Seeing that they were all calmly doing business, he felt relieved.

He now works at the restaurant, serving tea and water to the guests every day. He's also much calmer than before, and he told Taozi that if he encounters anything like this again, he should come to him and see who dares to bully them.

When Fu Changfeng and his group came to eat, they heard other diners talking about this issue. The two thugs were named Wang Er and Ma Zi. Fu Changfeng immediately said, "Miss Chen, if they dare to cause trouble again, just send someone to find me. I'll take care of it for you. Those two scoundrels are hated by everyone."

Fu Changfeng made a decision: he would have his men find the two men that night and threaten them, saying that if they dared to cause trouble again, he would break their legs.

"Thank you all. The matter has been resolved. This is all thanks to the magistrate's effective governance, the constables' swift action, and the many kind neighbors who came to our aid. With everyone's support, we weak women are no longer afraid."

Xi Chun also thanked everyone. The stall owners had previously joined her in their hatred of the enemy and used insults to attack the two thugs.

Xi Chun added some more dishes to each table, which made her even more familiar with the diners.

The next day, the village chief came to deliver vegetables. After hearing about what happened, he was also a little angry. These people really thought that there was no one left in their village, and they dared to bully people like this. After thinking it over, he decided that every time he delivered vegetables, he would have a few men from the village come over and watch the stall. If anyone dared to cause trouble, he would let them try.

The village chief didn't mention this to Xichun and the others, but two days later, he brought three tall, burly men and stood around Xichun and the others' stall. If anyone had any ulterior motives, they would be glared at.

Now even those who wanted to bully Xichun and her friends dared not make a move. They had manpower, and it would be troublesome if they got beaten up.

"Village chief, uncles, come and eat! You've worked so hard today. Since you came, doing business at this stall has become much easier."

Xichun was very grateful for everyone's help, so at mealtimes, he served each of them a large bowl of rice. After hearing that they would be providing meals for Xichun while he was watching the stall, the villagers became even more enthusiastic.

Xi Chun no longer needs to worry about anyone disrupting the business. In fact, because of the large number of customers, she even booked another spot where no one had paid the stall fee yet, which shortened the waiting time for customers and increased her profits.

As for An Wuji, his family's business has been even better since they bought the jelly from Xichun. At Xichun's suggestion, they also started making stir-fries and noodles. The method Xichun taught them was indeed even better than what they made themselves. They specifically chose to sell their jelly at the docks or in places where people did manual labor. Those people were willing to put in the effort and naturally had big appetites, so this cheap, delicious, and filling food naturally became the best choice.

Sometimes even the siblings are too busy to manage, so the whole family has to help. An Niangzi and the other older children also help wash and chop vegetables. When business is good, the smiles on their faces become even more obvious.

"Miss Chen, our business has been doing quite well lately, all thanks to your idea. Here's some money for you, please count it." After a month, An Wuji's business has been doing well. When Xichun taught him, she had told him to give her one hundred coins every month according to her method until a full year had passed.

“Okay, the number is correct. Your business has been alright lately, hasn’t it? I heard from the villagers who come to work that your stall is quite busy.” Xichun nodded before asking.

Xichun has become familiar with the city and has gotten to know some shop owners. So now she is returning the favor by connecting villagers with jobs in the city, and many of them have found work there, which helps them supplement their income during the off-season.

Sometimes they would come over for a meal and help look after the stall, so Xichun naturally learned about the news from there.

"Yes, it's much better than before. I think you're really amazing, Miss Chen. You can cook so many dishes. If I hadn't met you, I might still be selling pancakes, earning at most a hundred or two coins a month."

"This is all thanks to your own hard work, no need to thank me. We were just about to eat, would you like to stay and have some?"

"It's alright, it's alright, no need." An Wuji heard that they were preparing to eat, so he didn't linger any longer.

Today is Xichun's birthday. Wang asked Ma Dawei to bring ten eggs. He also helped out at a rice shop through Xichun's introduction, so he was grateful to Xichun. However, he declined when asked to stay for a meal.
