Chapter 43 The Cinema Ticket Collector

"I'll definitely be free." Du Qiang's eyes lit up when he heard he could see his sister-in-law.

He has to be available on Sundays no matter what.

Qin Yu, carrying Du Qiang's letter of introduction, arrived at the movie theater across from the department store.

It seems like a movie is playing right now, but there aren't many people around.

Qin Yu walked to the counter, where a pretty ticket seller was sitting. Seeing that Qin Yu's shadow was blocking the light, she looked up and glanced at him, saying coldly.

"The next movie, 'Two Little Eighth Route Army Soldiers,' is in 35 minutes. Tickets are five cents each. 'New Fist of Fury' is at 4:30, and there are no tickets left."

"I'm not here to watch a movie, I'm looking for Director Liu." Qin Yu glanced at the female ticket seller and then looked away.

Zhang Li was very annoyed with the man in front of her because he only glanced at her once and then looked away, showing no sign of being infatuated.

"Director Liu isn't here, so who are you to him?" Zhang Li glanced at Qin Yu.

His clothes were plain, and he even had a beard. No matter how clean his clothes were, he still looked sloppy.

Clearly, he wasn't some important person; he must be a poor relative of Director Liu. He directly rejected Qin Yu and didn't even want to relay the message.

Qin Yu could tell from her eyes and the way she spoke to him that Zhang Li looked down on him, so he didn't bother wasting his time on her and turned to find the old man who was sweeping the floor.

"Uncle, I'd like to find Director Liu. Where should I look for him?" Qin Yu asked the old man sweeping the floor.

"Young man, are you looking for Director Liu? What do you need him for?" the old man asked, sizing Qin Yu up.

"This is my letter of introduction. Director Lin asked me to come and see him." Qin Yu showed the old man his letter of introduction, which was stamped with an official seal.

The old man nodded, knowing that Qin Yu was not a person with ulterior motives, and led Qin Yu to the door of the office.

"Go in! Director Liu is in here." The old man pointed to the office door, then whispered to Qin Yu, "He's the one sitting at the biggest table inside; that's Director Liu."

"Thank you, sir," Qin Yu said with a smile.

"Don't mention it." The old man patted Qin Yu on the shoulder, waved with a smile, then turned and left with his broom.

Qin Yu turned to look at the office door and knocked gently.

"Who is it?" came a disgruntled voice from inside, seemingly annoyed at being interrupted by Qin Yu.

Qin Yu slowly pushed open the door and went inside.

When the three people in the office saw Qin Yu enter, they looked him over and their expressions immediately turned cold.

"Who are you! Don't you know you can't just walk into an office like that?"

"Do you know you're disturbing us? What are you doing?"

"Excuse me, I'm here to see Director Liu!" Qin Yu glanced at the two men indifferently and explained.

"Looking for me?" Director Liu looked up and glanced at Qin Yu. "Who sent you to see me?"

“Du Qiang,” Qin Yu replied, glancing at Director Liu’s half-bald head.

"Who?" Director Liu jumped up as if pricked by a needle, staring in astonishment at the plainly dressed Qin Yu, doubting the truthfulness of his words.

Qin Yu silently took out Du Qiang's letter of introduction. Director Liu looked at the official seal on it and no longer had any doubts. He quickly took it and started reading.

After reading the letter, Director Liu looked up and his face was beaming with a warm smile. He reached out and shook hands with Qin Yu, then lowered his head slightly.

"Comrade Qin Yu, hello! I am Director Liu, the one you are looking for!" Director Liu said with a warm smile.

"So you're Director Lin's comrade-in-arms! That's amazing! I admire people who dare to go to the battlefield; someone like you should be called a hero."

"Come, come, sit down." Director Liu's enthusiasm left Qin Yu speechless, and he watched his performance indifferently.

With tea poured for him and expressions of concern, Director Liu's attitude left the two men in the office dumbfounded.

After regaining his senses, Qin Yu found himself surrounded by two more people offering words of comfort and concern.

Qin Yu wasn't in the mood to brag to them; he just wanted to get his work done as soon as possible. "Director Liu, just give me any task you like!"

Upon hearing this, Director Liu understood.

"How about this, we're short of a ticket inspector, is that alright?"

"Okay." Qin Yu didn't have much of an objection and nodded.

The two men beside him changed their expressions slightly, but dared not say anything, and could only lower their heads and accept the fact.

"Alright, I'll get you onboarding done right now. Come with me..." Director Liu said with a smile, leading Qin Yu directly to complete the onboarding process.

After Qin Yu completed his onboarding process and held his work certificate in his hand, Director Liu returned to his office and called out to one of them.

"Ma Tao, could you show Comrade Qin Yu the ropes and mentor him?"

“…Yes.” Ma Tao replied, and came to Qin Yu. “Come with me!”

The job of a ticket checker is not difficult. All they have to do is take a ticket checker and punch a hole in the movie ticket before the movie starts.

The work is simple, and a movie is at least an hour long, during which he can do whatever he wants, or go to the movie by himself if he wants.

Qin Yu nodded. With half an hour to go before the next ticket check, he sat down in a chair.

Ma Tao glanced at Qin Yu and asked in a low voice.

"My name is Ma Tao. Comrade Qin Yu, what is your relationship with Director Liu?"

Qin Yu shook his head indifferently. "I have nothing to do with him."

“You have no connection with him, yet he gave you the ticket inspector job?” Ma Tao clearly didn’t believe it.

The ticket inspector's job had already been arranged, and Li Ming was to take on the role.

But as soon as Qin Yu arrived, Director Liu immediately canceled what he had promised Li Ming and gave the ticket inspector job to Qin Yu.

If there weren't connections, how could he be more appealing than money?

"This job originally belonged to Li Ming?" Qin Yu asked curiously.

No wonder when he returned to the office, the other person kept looking at him with a strange expression.

So it was because he stole his job?

"He was originally the projectionist in the office, and he wanted to transfer to the ticket checker position. Director Liu had already agreed!" Ma Tao said with a complicated expression.

They were just discussing it when Qin Yu arrived.

Li Ming gave Director Liu so many gifts and even promised to spend 100 yuan to ask Director Liu to give him the job of ticket inspector.

Just when it seemed like they were about to take over, a shrewd person appeared out of nowhere.

"He sent you to tell me this?" Qin Yu asked confidently.

"...I did my best." Ma Tao choked up. Li Ming had asked him to say a few words to Qin Yu, hoping that Qin Yu would return the job to him.

"Sorry, I need this job too." Qin Yu refused without hesitation.

Ma Tao's expression changed, and he didn't say anything more. He just left Qin Yu there and turned to leave.

Qin Yu watched his retreating figure. Was this just doing his best?

You seem to be in a state of exasperation.
