Just as Qin Yu was thinking this, the old man who had been sweeping the floor came over. "Young man, you've become a ticket inspector?"
"Old man, you already knew that?" Qin Yu asked with a smile.
"There's nothing in this movie theater that can be hidden from me, Old Bai!" the old man said proudly. "My surname is Bai, you can call me Old Bai."
"Old Bai, can you explain this to me?" Qin Yu asked with a smile.
"You little rascal, you've only just arrived and you're already scouting?" Old Bai smirked, looking at Qin Yu with a teasing expression.
"Since we're new here, we should avoid some things if possible," Qin Yu said honestly.
"You're quite clever, kid." Old Bai noticed that Qin Yu's attitude towards him wasn't as bossy as others, nor did he look down on his cleaning job.
I feel much better about Qin Yu than about anyone else.
“It’s no big deal to tell you. Ma Tao took bribes from Li Ming. Li Ming is dating Zhang Li, who sells tickets. He patted his chest in front of Zhang Li and said he would definitely become a ticket inspector. He gave Director Liu a lot of gifts and promised to give him a hundred yuan…” Old Bai whispered to Qin Yu.
Qin Yu was puzzled. "Isn't the job of a ticket inspector just that? What's so special about it?"
"You silly boy, do you really not understand or are you pretending?" Old Bai looked at Qin Yu suspiciously. "What is a ticket collector? It's the easiest job in this movie theater."
“Don’t underestimate this job. When you want to get into this movie theater, the ticket inspector is the face of the business. Everyone who goes through has to be checked.” Old Bai made a ticket-checking gesture, and Qin Yu frowned.
"Don't you understand?" Old Bai glanced at Qin Yu with amusement, knowing from his expression that he still didn't get it.
"If any of your distant relatives want to sneak in and watch a movie, what if you were the ticket collector?" Old Bai practically told Qin Yu directly.
"Just to save five cents?" Qin Yu asked.
"Isn't five cents money? If you get five cents, what about the whole family? That's several mao!" Old Bai rolled his eyes at Qin Yu. This kid looked clever, but he was also stupid.
"Besides, it's a matter of face for you to say this!"
Qin Yu nodded silently.
"Face"—this phrase seems to explain it now.
"Besides, projectionists have to stay in the projection room all the time, unlike ticket collectors who have it so easy, they can run around everywhere and no one will catch them if they slack off," Old Bai reminded him.
"If I take his job now, what will he do?" Qin Yu asked.
"He can only let you apply for a job change yourself, right?" Old Bai thought for a moment, and realized that only Qin Yu himself wanted to change jobs.
Qin Yu nodded, then there was no need to worry about it.
After chatting with Mr. Bai for a while, the movie finally ended, and a group of people left the screening room. Mr. Bai patted his legs, stood up, and picked up his old equipment.
"It's time for my work."
Qin Yu watched as Old Bai walked into the screening room, and he followed him in.
There were a lot of sunflower seed shells and some trash on the ground inside. Old Bai needed to lift all the stools, sweep up the trash, and then move them back.
Seeing that he was struggling to move the chairs, Qin Yu went over to help him lift them all up. Old Bai glanced at Qin Yu, but didn't stand on ceremony. While he was lifting the chairs, Old Bai quickly swept up the trash.
With one person carrying and the other sweeping, what would normally take a while to finish was done in just a few minutes.
Old Bai no longer had to move things around, which made him feel much more relaxed.
The next movie was about to start, and there were already quite a few people waiting to watch it outside, but Ma Tao hadn't come over yet.
"Why aren't they checking tickets yet? It's about to start!"
"Is it still being cleaned inside? It looks like it's already finished."
"Comrade, I'd like to ask when ticket checking will begin?"
"Yeah, it's almost time, why aren't they checking tickets yet..."
"What's going on...?"
Some people have already started to feel anxious and are complaining.
Old Bai was watching the clock tick down, it was almost time to check tickets, but Ma Tao still hadn't arrived.
Knowing that Ma Tao wanted to mess with Qin Yu, Old Bai snorted and tugged at Qin Yu, signaling him to start checking tickets.
"Just punch a hole in the ticket!" Old Bai reminded him.
Qin Yu also noticed something, nodded, and began checking tickets.
"Everyone, come and line up to have your tickets checked!" Qin Yu called out as he stood at the entrance.
As soon as Qin Yu exuded his aura, the people who had just been complaining immediately shut their mouths and took out their tickets for Qin Yu to check.
"Young man, please show your ticket." Qin Yu saw someone suddenly trying to sneak past him, so he grabbed the man by the back of his collar and lifted him up.
"Let me go!" The boy who was being held was a teenager. He struggled as Qin Yu grabbed him by the neck.
"Where's your ticket?" Qin Yu asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, let go, I want to go in," the child said through gritted teeth, trying to kick Qin Yu.
Qin Yu threw the child directly at the door without any hesitation.
Everyone else was stunned by Qin Yu's move. The woman couldn't help but look at Qin Yu's face, but when she saw his stubble, disappointment flashed in her eyes.
After everyone with tickets went inside, there was no one else outside, and Qin Yu simply closed the door.
The child who had just been thrown out rushed over as soon as Qin Yu closed the door, wanting to run straight in.
Qin Yu calmly blocked him at the door.
"Ticket." Too lazy to waste words with him, Qin Yu wouldn't be allowed in without a ticket.
"Ma Tao is my future brother-in-law! You're new here, right? How dare you not let me in! I'll go tell him!" The child glared at Qin Yu and said fiercely.
"Future brother-in-law? What's your sister's name?" Qin Yu said dismissively.
“My sister’s name is Zhang Li! She’s the pretty one!” the child said, pointing to the ticket seller, Zhang Li.
"Little brat, you lie without even thinking. If she were your sister, why didn't you ask her for a ticket..." Qin Yu said with amusement. Did you really need to sneak in?
Upon hearing the child's words, Old Bai, who was standing to the side, revealed a meaningful smile.
"Why would I lie to you? She really is my sister!" the child said through gritted teeth.
Seeing that Qin Yu didn't believe her, she snorted coldly and stormed towards Zhang Li right in front of Qin Yu.
When Zhang Li saw the child, her expression changed. She grabbed his ear and twisted it hard.
"Ouch!" The child winced in pain, his face changing drastically. "Sister, let go! If you pinch me again... I'll go home and tell Mom!"
Zhang Li sneered as she released his ear, coldly saying, "Go home right now. If you bother me again, I'll have Mom send you to your grandma's in the countryside!"
"Sis, that new ticket inspector doesn't believe you're my sister, so he won't let me in to watch the movie," the child complained to Zhang Li, pointing back at her.
"Sister, if you let me finish watching this movie, I promise I'll go home right after, okay?" the child said to Zhang Li.
Zhang Li's expression changed slightly when she saw that the person she had just treated coldly had suddenly become a colleague. "What did you say he was? The new ticket inspector?"
