Chapter 4 Returning the Marriage Contract to the Fool

If their daughter were to marry into the Fang family, it would be of great benefit to the entire Chen Group.

Today, Chen Xueping unusually put aside her usual willful nature and acted like an innocent little princess.

Fang Shiming was a cunning old fox; he knew exactly what the couple was up to.

He clicked his tongue as if he had suddenly remembered something: "But recently there have been rumors that your daughter is engaged to the second son of the Shen family, and I don't know how to explain this to my family."

"I was just saying not long ago that I wanted to introduce your daughter to my eldest brother's youngest son. I thought they were about the same age and our two families had a good relationship, so I just mentioned it."

"Who would have thought that recently everyone has been saying that your daughter was already engaged to the second son of the Shen family. Even my eldest brother was blaming me, saying that I hadn't figured things out before I started matchmaking."

Fang Shiming looked annoyed, yet also regretful about this ill-fated relationship.

Upon hearing this, Chen Shuhua glared fiercely at his wife beside him.

Originally, the marriage agreement with that Shen Lao Er was not with Xueping, but with her own foolish son, Lin Wanxing.

The marriage between Lin Wanxing and Shen Lao Er was arranged by the patriarchs of the Shen and Lin families.

The two old men were friends when they were young, and the marriage was arranged when Lin Wanxing was just born.

However, Chen Shuhua's current wife later valued the Shen family's status and connections, and she began to have ulterior motives.

At that time, Shen Lao Er's power was at its zenith, and he was the most likely person to become the head of the Shen family.

Back then, Shen Lao Er was a regular feature in major financial news outlets, and many media outlets frequently followed him.

So they forcibly pushed Xueping out and took over Lin Wanxing's engagement without her consent.

At the time, they claimed that since they were all children of the Chen family, it didn't matter which one they were.

Moreover, Shen Lao Er is much older than Lin Wanxing, so Xueping is more suitable for this marriage.

So many years have passed, and things have changed.

Shen Lao Er was caught up in a family feud. Five years ago, a misfortune occurred, leaving him with a limp and a declining status within the group.

Moreover, the Shen Group is almost about to remove him from the list. Shen Lao Er now has to rely on a wheelchair every day and is probably unable to take care of himself.

How could my precious daughter marry such a useless man?

Chen Shuhua said solemnly:

"You may have misheard. It's not Xueping who's engaged to the Shen family, but my good-for-nothing son."

"Back then, my late father-in-law and Mr. Shen secretly arranged this marriage. Later, Mr. Shen passed away, and my wife was heartbroken and also passed away. This marriage had nothing to do with Xueping."

When Chen Shuhua spoke of his father-in-law and his deceased wife, his eyes were filled with sorrow.

It was as if these two people were painful memories he didn't want to mention.

Fang Shiming smiled, pretending to suddenly understand, and said in surprise, "Oh, I see. Then I'll have to explain it to my older brother properly."

"To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings."

Fang Shiming glanced at Chen Xueping and asked knowingly, "But why didn't I see your youngest son today?"

Before Chen Shuhua could speak, his wife interrupted, "Wanxing is sick, so I let him rest."

After saying that, she frowned and pretended to be full of sorrow, saying with pity, "This child is also pitiful. He got this disease at such a young age. Although he is not my child, I have always treated him as my own son. I have been taking care of him all these years since he got sick."

As she spoke, she couldn't help but choke up, "I watched Wanxing grow up. I treated him even better than my own flesh and blood, but in the end, he turned out like this."

"It's all because I didn't take good care of him."

After saying that, Xu Feng pretended to squeeze out a few tears. Chen Xueping patted her mother's back considerately, "Mom, how can you blame yourself for this? Nobody wants this to happen."

Chen Xueping also said with worry:

“My younger brother is emotionally unstable and easily gets sick. My parents don’t let him see strangers in order to avoid upsetting him.”

This explanation is so reasonable that it leaves no room for doubt.

The child had become mentally impaired, and it's unbelievable that after so many years, his condition was still so severe.

At its peak, the Lin family completely overshadowed all other prominent families. Lin Wanxing received a lot of attention from the moment he was born, and Lin Ruoyu once held a grand full-moon celebration for her son.

The people who attended the banquet were all top figures in the political and business circles. Old Master Shen of the Shen family was particularly fond of the child and personally bought a pair of two-tone dragon-patterned jade bracelets and sent them over.

It was around that time that they arranged their marriage.

This child was expected to achieve great things, but ended up being mentally challenged.

Fang Shiming smiled and looked at the family of three opposite him. "I will talk to my older brother about the marriage. Xueping is indeed a very good child."

Xu Feng and Chen Xueping were secretly delighted to hear that there was already progress in the matter.

The Shen family has that fool to fill the hole, and Chen Xueping would never willingly marry a cripple who can't take care of himself.

They had already arranged all of this here. Xu Feng was the one who stole someone else's fiancé back then, and now it's Xu Feng who's causing trouble and breaking off the marriage with Lin Wanxing.

Chen Shuhua initially disagreed with Xu Feng doing these things, but when he saw his pitiful daughter crying and begging him, how could he bear to let her marry a good-for-nothing like Shen Er?

Putting aside the leg issue, given the current state of the Shen family, there's no place for Shen Er anymore. It would be better to return the marriage to Wanxing.

Anyway, he was the one who was originally engaged to Shen Er.

The "Lin" in Lin Wanxing's name was like a thorn that pierced deeply into Chen Shuhua's fragile and sensitive self-esteem.

As a man, he couldn't have his child take his surname. Who could understand the humiliation he felt? He had always been like a dog in the Lin family, groveling and trying to please them, and he didn't even dare to say a harsh word to his wife.

Chen Shuhua hates the Lin family, hates Lin Ruoyu, and hates that they didn't treat her as the master of the house.

Fortunately, he later met the understanding Xu Feng. Xu Feng was considerate and generous, never asking for any title or status, and was willing to make sacrifices for him and bear his children. This kind of woman was the wife in his heart.

Before Lin Ruoyu died, he brought Xu Feng and Chen Xueping into his home. As you can imagine, Lin Ruoyu could not accept this at all. How could she, as the eldest daughter of the Lin family, tolerate two women serving one husband?

She argued with Chen Shuhua every day, and later went insane and committed suicide by jumping off a building.
