After seeing He Yaoyuan off, He Xingjian was about to try contacting Mingdai again when Mingdai called first.
He Xingjian answered immediately.
Where are you? I heard you weren't feeling well, how are you now?
Mingdai is still in the hospital.
She didn't want to stay, but her mother wouldn't let her leave.
Mo Tingchuan is asleep. The ashtray she dumped on him gave him a concussion, and he vomited violently not long ago.
Ming's mother felt both distressed and helpless, and stayed with Mo Tingchuan in the hospital room while he received an IV drip.
Mingdai came out and called He Xingjian.
"I'm sorry, today..."
Before Mingdai could finish speaking, He Xingjian told her.
"Mo Qingying committed suicide by taking sleeping pills. You probably don't know that yet, do you?"
Mingdai silently stared at the white wall across the hospital corridor, gripping her phone tightly in her hand.
When did this happen?
“When I arrived not long ago, they were in critical condition, but I don’t think it’s a big problem. Don’t worry, it’s just a ruse orchestrated by their family.”
Mingdai thought of the stranger's phone call and video.
Mo Qingying has now attempted suicide by overdose.
Is this a two-pronged approach to force her to stop caring?
“Mingdai, your third uncle is not happy. No matter what the reason is, you have to give him a reasonable explanation.”
Last night at the dinner table, He Yaonian helped Mingdai so much, but this morning before dawn, Mingdai and Mo Tingchuan secretly left together. This is a complete disgrace to He Yaonian.
That's He Yaonian!
How dare Mingdai do that?
"Third Uncle has limited patience. You'd better finish this quickly. If it drags on, things might get complicated."
When He Yaonian finally decided to teach Mingdai a lesson, Mingdai would be unable to withstand it no matter what.
After hanging up the phone, Mingdai's mind went blank.
She didn't know how to explain it to He Yaonian.
Yesterday she was begging He Yaonian for help in the study, but in the blink of an eye, only a day has passed and she has already changed her mind.
Let alone He Yaonian, even she herself would not easily forgive her.
“Dai Dai”.
Ming's mother peeked out of the ward and quietly called to Ming Dai, who was leaning against the wall not far away.
Mingdai came to her mother.
"What's wrong?"
"It's already afternoon, aren't you going to eat?"
Ming's mother glared at her daughter reproachfully, "How can you not eat on time? Why don't you stay here and watch over things while I go buy some for you?"
Mingdai had no appetite at all; she didn't feel hungry at all.
"Mom, you go back. I'll stay here and keep watch."
When Mo Tingchuan vomited earlier, she heard her mother answer a phone call; there were other activities planned for that evening.
Ming's mother's dinner invitation had been arranged long ago, and it was difficult to cancel at the last minute.
After hesitating for a moment, he went downstairs to buy food for Mingdai, and then thought of going back to the apartment to retrieve the medicinal meal he had left there at noon for Mingdai.
"No need, Mom. I'll go back after Mo Tingchuan wakes up to get some clean clothes."
Ming's mother did not suspect anything and gave her daughter instructions.
"Tingchuan is awake, so stop arguing with him. Why can't you talk things out instead of resorting to violence?"
"Know."
After Ming's mother left, Ming Dai called the nurse and explained the general situation, then left without looking back.
On the bustling street, Mingdai called He Yaonian.
The man took a long time to answer, and when he did, he didn't say anything.
"Third Uncle."
Mingdai held her phone in both hands, speaking cautiously.
Where are you? Can we meet?
It was very quiet on He Yaonian's end; no one knew what he was doing or whether he had finished get off work yet.
"What's up?"
It felt like an entire century had passed. He Yaonian's tone was indifferent and impatient.
Mingdai opened her mouth, but a thousand thoughts were stuck in her throat.
She watched the streetlights gradually come on and stared at the willows swaying gently in the breeze. It was spring, and the willows had sprouted many new buds, tender and vibrant green.
"Third Uncle, I'm sorry."
With a single beep, the call ended abruptly.
He Yaonian didn't want to listen to even his apologies.
Mingdai was so embarrassed that she clutched her phone tightly and looked around blankly. Pedestrians kept walking past her, and she was so helpless that she turned around and ran away.
I didn't know where I was going, but I ran straight to the intersection and mingled with the crowd as I crossed the pedestrian crossing.
After wandering aimlessly for a few minutes, He Yaonian sent the address.
Mingdai was overjoyed and hailed a taxi, rushing to him with trepidation.
We arrived at a club that only the wealthy could afford to patronize.
No, it should be said that only those with a certain level of power and status are qualified to enter and exit this place.
Mingdai didn't know if she was qualified. Anyway, when the staff member in the designer uniform smiled and asked her if she had a membership card, she could only shake her head helplessly and ask if she could get one on the spot.
The staff shook their heads without any discrimination.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, our club only supports member referrals this month. We really apologize."
"However, madam, you can provide some relevant information, and we will give you a reply after reviewing it."
Mingdai knew she wouldn't be able to get in today.
but……
"I'm here to find someone, to find... to find He Yaonian."
As soon as he finished speaking, a male waiter who looked like an elite walked over.
"Excuse me, are you Ms. Mingdai?"
Mingdai looked at him and nodded, "It's me."
"Hello, Mr. He is waiting for you."
Following the waiter, we walked through an elaborate and luxurious Chinese-style mirrored corridor, to the innermost black and gold-carved door.
The waiter respectfully announced, "Mr. He, Miss Ming has arrived."
The waiter smiled at Mingdai and said, "Please come in."
Mingdai hadn't decided on her words yet. Although she had prepared several plans along the way, she still hadn't decided which one to use.
I pushed open the door and stepped inside.
The landscape features a simple and elegant greenery, with bamboo shadows standing tall against the embedded glass walls. The overall space is decorated in a traditional Chinese jade color scheme, exuding a low-key yet high-end feel.
Mingdai found He Yaonian in the living room with the bamboo leaf lamp.
The lamp was truly magnificent; the bamboo leaves shone brightly, drooping down like jade butterflies in flight, a breathtaking sight.
Thank goodness, He Yaonian is the only one here.
Even though he was alone, his quiet sitting there made it impossible for Mingdai, who had come looking for him, to move an inch.
He Yaonian leaned back on the sofa, relaxed. His long legs took up most of the sofa's surface, with plenty of room to extend onto the polished floor. His clean, gleaming leather shoes were just like him—unapproachable.
He Yaonian didn't open his eyes when he heard the sound; he was resting with his eyes closed.
Mingdai didn't believe he was asleep.
A stalemate ensued.
"Rolling around~"
My stomach growled loudly at an inopportune moment.
Mingdai was shocked. As He Yaonian slowly opened his eyes, her little face turned as red as a monkey's bottom.
He Yaonian stared at Mingdai with a complicated expression.
Mingdai was speechless, so embarrassed that she wished she could disappear on the spot.
An eerie silence fell.
He Yaonian laughed in anger.
"You did this on purpose, didn't you?"
Mingdai shook her head in shame, no.
She hadn't felt hungry at all, and she didn't want to eat anything.
"Mo Tingchuan isn't feeding you?"
He Yaonian lazily sized up Mingdai, her blushing face making her look pitiful.
"You've come here to gain my sympathy?"
