Jian Zhizhen slept well all night and was indeed full of energy again the next day; all her illnesses were cured.
Qin Yubai also got up early to take her to school.
Having found the classroom before class started, Jian Zhizhen had just stepped inside when a girl waved to her from a short distance away: "Zhenzhen, over here."
Jian Zhizhen looked up and saw her three roommates, Zheng Sitan, Zong Zongzong, and Tang Yuanyuan, sitting in a spot with a great view, leaving an empty space for her.
Although Jian Zhizhen rarely attended classes since her freshman year, she always had a good relationship with the three of them, and they would often send her course progress updates.
When she was on TV shows, her three roommates would use their trumpets to shower her with compliments every day, and she could tell right away.
Jian Zhizhen sat down, and soon the teacher came in to start the lesson.
The day was packed with classes.
During the lunch break, Jian Zhizhen also had to go to the teacher to report on her learning progress while she was not at school.
After the teacher assessed her and confirmed that she had not fallen behind, she was allowed to continue taking leave.
Jian Zhizhen could only relax after class ended in the afternoon.
She hurried back to her dorm, opened the door, and said to all her roommates, "Let's go eat."
Zheng Sitan looked towards the balcony: "Let's wait for Zongzong to come together."
On the balcony, Zong Zongzong was talking on the phone with her grandmother.
Jian Zhizhen remembered that when she first entered the school, she knew that her roommate had this habit: every afternoon after school, she would chat with her grandmother for a while and tell her about what happened that day.
She said that her parents went out to work when she was very young, and she grew up with her maternal grandmother in her hometown.
Because her parents were not around, she was very introverted and was bullied by some classmates at school.
When children's values are not yet formed, confident and outgoing children usually have a smooth life, while introverted children are easily perceived as unsociable by some people.
Those people ostracize and bully those who don't conform, as if those who don't follow their lead cannot exist in the world.
Those children bullied Zongzong and threatened her not to tell her parents.
Because they knew that Zongzong was raised by her maternal grandmother, they even threatened that if they told her parents, they would beat up her grandmother as well.
But her grandmother still found out about it; she saw large bruises all over Zongzong's body.
Upon further questioning, it was learned that she had been bullied at school, and her grandmother was not one to tolerate those children.
She ran to the school, found the children, and slapped each of them a few times.
She also told them, "If you bully my Zongzong again, I'll kill you all and then turn myself in. I'll trade my life, an old woman's life, for the lives of you kids. Let's see who suffers the most."
People who bully others are usually cowards who prey on the weak and fear the strong.
After being beaten and intimidated by someone stronger, they no longer dared to bully Zongzong.
Later, Zongzong was admitted to the best university in the country.
Many of the people who used to bully her couldn't even get into a regular university, so they've long since lost touch with her and it'll be hard for them to cross paths with her again in this lifetime.
Zongzong is also very filial to her grandmother. Since starting school, she has been chatting with her grandmother every day.
Her grandmother is very old, has poor hearing and memory.
Sometimes, you have to ask her the same question several times, and she will patiently repeat it to your grandmother in a gentle tone.
A few minutes later, Zongzong finished her call.
She stepped out from the balcony, still looking down at her equipment, her brows furrowed, as if she were very worried.
Jian Zhizhen leaned closer for a glance and saw that the device was thick and looked like an old-fashioned model, so he asked her, "Is it broken?"
Zongzong nodded and spoke slowly: "This is an old model from ten years ago. My grandma bought it for me."
Zheng Sitan also went over to take a look and saw that the screen was still spinning, and even turning off the screen was so laggy, which showed how inconvenient it had become.
She exclaimed, "My God, ten years of data! Even if you wipe it clean, there will still be a lot of things you won't want to erase, so it's bound to lag."
"Get a new one." Tang Yuanyuan held up the device on her wrist. "New devices these days are so thin and light, almost like a sheet of metal. Yours must be tiring on your wrist, right?"
Zongzong hesitated for a while, then finally shook her head: "Let's forget it. I'll clear the memory later, it should still work."
Jian Zhizhen and her two roommates exchanged glances.
There are some things that all three of them know.
Everyone in their dorm received scholarships, so they should have been financially well-off, but Zongzong always spent money very frugally.
Her roommate had asked her before, and she said she wanted to save money to buy a big house so she could live with her grandmother for the rest of her life.
They stopped trying to persuade her and went out to eat together.
...
Today, since Jian Zhizhen is back, they want to have a nice meal.
Jian Zhizhen took them to the hot pot restaurant in the alley they had visited before.
After the group sat down and ordered their food, the sound of a birthday song suddenly came from a nearby table.
Tangyuan, who loves sweets the most among the four, looked up and stared at the cake on the table: "I also want to celebrate my birthday, mainly because I want to eat cake."
Jian Zhizhen also glanced back, slightly raised the corners of her lips, looked away, and said to her three roommates, "I may be joining G to participate in project research soon."
Zheng Sitan exclaimed enthusiastically, "Wow, congratulations Zhenzhen! You're so young to have gotten into an institution that every scientific researcher dreams of!"
Her other two roommates also congratulated her. Jian Zhizhen smiled and continued, "How about we have a group birthday celebration in our dorm early? My project is nearing its end, and once I'm in there, I probably won't have time to come out and celebrate with everyone."
