"Congratulations on your exceptional admission to the Execution Team. From now on, your daily task will be to go to the slaughterhouse and put neck collars on everyone brought in. You will receive generous material rewards, free medical care, and you can work only eight hours a day."
The man actually said these words to Grandma Li.
Grandma Li's eyes widened in surprise, her wrinkled face trembling slightly: "W-what? Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
The man smiled and said, "No, we upper echelons are very open-minded and inclusive. We welcome anyone with ability to join us, regardless of age or background. However, I must remind you that there are limited positions here, so you'd better keep this a secret and don't let anyone else know."
Grandma Li knew that the executive group was already halfway into high society.
From then on, she no longer had to work herself to the bone every day, and she could finally breathe again!
She was both surprised and delighted, nodding repeatedly, "Okay."
She suddenly felt that people in the upper class were really nice.
They were not as savage as the lower classes.
The rules they set are so fair! It turns out that as long as you bravely take that first step, you can get a reward.
Waaah, I deserve to die. I was actually planning to rebel against the higher-ups with those young people.
The man chuckled softly: "In exchange, can you tell me who brought you in?"
Grandma Li's heart raced with nervousness, and she instinctively avoided the man's gaze.
Jian Zhizhen and her group helped her a lot.
She felt it wouldn't be right for her to betray them.
But then I thought, she's so old, she's suffered for over ninety years.
Can't we live a better life for the rest of our lives?
How could an old woman with a face covered in yellow dust possibly handle such a huge task as saving the world?
So, after much deliberation...
She chose to tell this man about Jian Zhizhen's situation.
The man laughed coldly after hearing this.
The upper class is civilized and advanced, giving opportunities to everyone, but cannot tolerate traitors.
...
Lin Yi waited for a long time but didn't see anyone, so he quickly went to look for Jian Zhizhen.
He had a map that Qin Yubai had drawn for him in advance, and he had memorized the locations of various places. He quickly found the restroom and saw Jian Zhizhen looking around.
He hurried over: "Where is Grandma Li?"
Jian Zhi looked anxious: "I was looking everywhere too. I waited for about three or four minutes, but she didn't come out, so I went inside to look for her, only to find that she was no longer there."
Lin Yi couldn't help but worry: "Shall we split up and search?"
Jian Zhizhen nodded and was about to agree when he suddenly received a message from Qin Yubai.
"You two come back to the control room immediately. Grandma Li has told them about you. Now all the employees in the building have received news that you betrayed the organization, and the Silver Men are hunting you down."
After reading the message, Jian Zhizhen's eyes darkened.
They never expected that after helping Grandma Li so many times, she would betray them so easily.
She didn't have time to think about why, and quickly grabbed Lin Yi's wrist and left.
But as soon as the two ran out of the corridor, they were blocked by a man in silver.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the lame woman they had rescued from the slaughterhouse before.
The lame woman immediately took out the alarm; as soon as she pressed it, all the men in silver would come and arrest them.
Jian Zhizhen stared intently at the object in her hand, his mind racing as he calculated which escape route he should take later.
The lame woman suddenly asked, without any apparent reason, "Why did you do this?"
Jian Zhizhen looked at her with a puzzled expression, as if she didn't understand what she meant by asking that question.
The woman continued, “We all received orders from above that you betrayed them. But I don’t understand why? You’re higher up than me, you receive so much money and food, and I’m content with my current life. Why aren’t you satisfied? Why would you betray those above you?”
Jian Zhizhen found the question amusing and instead of answering, asked in return, "When you were in the slaughterhouse, dragging your exhausted body, facing death at any moment, were you still so loyal to these upper-class people?"
The woman replied firmly, "It's precisely because I'll never forget how miserable I was before that I won't let anything ruin my good life now."
The comments section was filled with criticism of Grandma Li for betraying Jian Zhizhen.
But upon seeing this, the wind direction suddenly changed slightly:
As bystanders, we might think the lame woman and the old lady are both despicable, ungrateful, and treacherous. But as those directly involved... when everyone is doing well, who would want to risk changing everything?
After this incident, I think Jian Zhizhen's girlish spirit has been completely worn away. Wake up!
From now on, I'll become a worldly person, minding my own business and doing what's right.
The audience all thought the woman was about to press the alarm.
But she suddenly parted to make way for you: "You saved me back then, so I'll give you another chance. They're coming from the east and southwest, so you can go this way."
Jian Zhizhen was taken aback for a moment, then quickly said "thank you" and left with Lin Yi immediately.
Although Grandma Li betrayed them, there are still people with a conscience.
The one who was wrong was Grandma Li, not her.
Going forward, she will continue to uphold her values and principles in doing things.
I would never become cold-hearted just because I've met a bad person.
...
There are simply too many people hunting them down.
