The Ghost Doctor followed them curiously, his ever-smiling face now turning serious.
Qi Guze's guards were always ready to protect the two noblemen should anything happen.
Xu Yuehuai stepped down from the carriage, and her appearance immediately attracted the attention of the burly men.
When they saw her, the arguing stopped abruptly, replaced by silence.
Xu Yuehuai parted her red lips slightly, her voice gentle yet carrying an irresistible power: "Brothers, please stop arguing." Her words seemed to have a magical power, silencing the burly men who had been arguing just moments before.
She stepped forward and spoke to them warmly. Her words were full of care and understanding, which warmed their hearts. The tense atmosphere gradually eased under her gentle reassurance.
Qi Guze stood to the side, his gaze never leaving Xu Yuehuai. He saw her skill and composure as she spoke with those burly men, and a sense of respect welled up in his heart.
He knew that Xu Yuehuai was not only a woman with superb cooking skills, but also a kind and understanding person.
Meanwhile, the burly men began to confide their confusion and worries to Xu Yuehuai. Xu Yuehuai listened patiently, nodding occasionally to show her understanding. She told them that planting crops required considering not only the fertility of the soil but also factors such as climate and water resources; only by taking all factors into account could the best planting plan be made.
She also shared some agricultural knowledge with them, making them understand that growing crops requires careful nurturing and management. Under her persuasion, the faces of those burly men gradually brightened with smiles.
"Thank you so much!"
What you said has enlightened us!
"If we actually manage to grow it successfully next year, we'll definitely invite you to come and see!"
They thanked Xu Yuehuai for her guidance and were filled with respect and gratitude towards her.
"Okay!" Xu Yuehuai smiled slightly.
As the carriage started moving again, the burly men waved goodbye to them with reluctance.
You absolutely must come and visit next year!
"good!"
Xu Yuehuai sat in the carriage, a satisfied smile on her face. She knew that everything she had just done was worthwhile.
The carriage continued its journey across the wasteland, but the atmosphere inside was completely different from before.
Qi Guze looked at Xu Yuehuai, his heart filled with respect and love. He knew that having such a woman by his side was his good fortune and happiness.
"Yuehuai, I didn't know you had such profound insights into planting."
“I read all of this in a book before,” Xu Yuehuai blinked.
Qi Guze smiled and said, "Being able to remember it is a skill in itself."
Watching the two of them being so sweet together, the Ghost Doctor turned his head away and closed his eyes to rest.
That morning, sunlight streamed onto the road the carriage was traveling on, the golden light contrasting beautifully with the dust. Halfway through their journey, they decided to stop and rest for a while.
The coachman stopped the carriage beside a grove of trees so that Xu Yuehuai could rest in the shade. She got out of the carriage to get some fresh air and stretch her limbs. Her movements were light and graceful, as if she were one with nature.
She took a deep breath of fresh air, feeling the gentle breeze caressing her cheeks.
Just then, a strange cry shattered the surrounding tranquility. The sound was sharp and piercing, making one involuntarily tense. Xu Yuehuai frowned slightly, cautiously surveying her surroundings.
Qi Guze immediately drew his long sword from his waist and stood protectively in front of Xu Yuehuai: "Don't be afraid, I'm here!" His eyes were firm and resolute, full of protectiveness.
Xu Yuehuai waved her hand gently: "This sound doesn't seem to come from a wild animal, but rather from a human." Her words revealed doubt and contemplation.
Qi Guze was also somewhat surprised after hearing this. He listened carefully to the sound, trying to discern the pattern within it.
Xu Yuehuai took a deep breath, a resolute glint in her eyes: "Watch me! We'll pretend we don't know anything and lure them out." Her words were full of confidence.
Qi Guze nodded slightly in agreement. They then got back into the carriage and pretended to rest casually. Their movements were as natural as possible to avoid arousing suspicion.
As time went on, the strange cries became more and more frequent, as if testing their reaction.
As night fell, the woods surrounding the carriage grew increasingly eerie. A group of ragged men stealthily approached their carriage, their faces bearing cunning and menacing expressions.
Xu Yuehuai and Qi Guze felt a pang of anxiety, but they remained calm.
Suddenly, Xu Yuehuai lifted the carriage curtain and shouted, "You've finally arrived! I knew you'd been following us!" Her words startled the men, who all backed away.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Qi Guze rushed out of the carriage, brandishing his long sword, and attacked them.
A fierce battle unfolded under the cover of night. Qi Guze's swordsmanship was sharp and decisive, each attack striking fear into his opponent.
Xu Yuehuai assisted him in fighting against these people. The guards nearby also joined in, and some of them went to scout out the surrounding area.
Although the number of those ragged people was large, they were gradually defeated under the joint attack of Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai.
With the last enemy fallen, the battle finally ended. Night deepened, and the woods returned to silence. The carriage, bathed in moonlight, stood quietly to the side, as if cheering their victory.
Qi Guze and Xu Yuehuai smiled at each other; the peace and sweetness of this moment became the most beautiful scenery in their hearts.
Standing in the darkness, Xu Yuehuai faced the group of ragged people, her eyes filled with confusion and anger. Her voice was cold as she asked the question that struck at the heart of the matter: "Who exactly are you people? Why are you hiding in the shadows and attacking us?"
A heavy atmosphere filled the air. The people were kneeling on the ground, their bodies trembling, blood still flowing from their wounds. The scene was horrific.
They bowed their heads, their faces filled with shame and helplessness, and uttered with difficulty, "We are all suffering refugees. This was all done out of desperation. Please forgive us and spare our lives."
Qi Guze frowned, his eyes filled with doubt and wariness. He stepped forward, his tone authoritative: "Where did you come from?"
The leader of the refugees, a middle-aged man, raised his head, his face pale and haggard, his voice weak: "We come from the Kingdom of Dongsang."
Upon hearing this answer, the Ghost Doctor was utterly astonished: "How could that be? The Kingdom of Dongsang has always refused to allow its people to be persecuted, nor has it allowed anyone to leave its country easily."
