She gently stroked the flute, feeling its warmth, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
"Okay, goodbye!"
After saying goodbye, Xu Yuehuai stepped out of the palace gate.
However, just as she was about to leave, she was stopped by the guards at the gate. "Halt!" the soldier shouted, "You can't leave here!"
Xu Yuehuai was stunned; she hadn't expected to be stopped.
She tried to remain calm and took out her pass token: "I have a pass token given to me by the King, you cannot stop me."
The soldiers exchanged bewildered glances, a hint of doubt flashing in their eyes. They took the pass tokens, examined the seals on them closely, and discovered that the tokens were fake.
Xu Yuehuai was shocked. She clearly remembered that she had received the pass token from Bei Ye. How could it be fake?
A sense of unease welled up within her; she didn't know what would happen next. The soldiers raised their weapons, blocking Xu Yuehuai's path. Their faces were expressionless, like cold, lifeless statues.
Xu Yuehuai began to panic; she knew she was in trouble. "How could you do this?" Xu Yuehuai shouted, "I am a distinguished guest invited by the King! How can you not let me leave?"
The soldiers didn't answer; they simply stood silently in front of Xu Yuehuai. Xu Yuehuai realized that she couldn't leave through normal means.
She had to find another way to leave this unfamiliar country.
Xu Yuehuai stared helplessly at the pass in her hand. The pass, which supposedly allowed her to leave the palace at any time, turned out to be fake. Her heart sank, her brows furrowed, and a hint of resentment and anxiety flashed in her eyes.
She took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and decided to go to the palace to find Bei Ye and ask him for the truth herself.
The palace gates slowly opened before her, and sunlight streamed into the magnificent halls, yet they appeared somewhat desolate.
As Xu Yuehuai stepped into the palace, a somber atmosphere enveloped her. She found the palace eerily quiet, with even the usually bustling palace maids and eunuchs nowhere to be seen.
A sense of foreboding welled up inside her, and she hurried toward Bei Ye's study. Inside, the ink on the desk was still wet, as if Bei Ye had just been writing calligraphy there.
However, the study was now completely empty. Xu Yuehuai's heart jumped. She walked quickly to the desk and saw some papers scattered on it. On one of the papers were the four large characters "Never Forget Your Original Intention" written on it, the handwriting trembling slightly.
Xu Yuehuai walked deeper into the palace when suddenly she heard a faint groan.
She followed the sound and found Bei Ye slumped helplessly against a bench, his face as pale as paper.
His eyes were closed, and a trickle of blood oozed from the corner of his mouth, a stark contrast to his handsome face.
Xu Yuehuai's heart tightened, and she immediately squatted down, lifting Bei Ye's head to rest against her chest.
"Bei Ye!" she whispered his name, trying to wake him.
However, Bei Ye seemed to have fallen into a coma and was unresponsive. At this moment, a eunuch rushed in and, upon seeing Xu Yuehuai and the unconscious Bei Ye, his expression changed drastically.
"Quick! Go find the imperial physician!" Xu Yuehua shouted.
The eunuch immediately turned and ran out of the study, loudly summoning the other palace maids and eunuchs. Xu Yuehuai hugged Bei Ye tightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
She felt a mix of emotions: worry, anxiety, anger, and doubt.
Why is the pass token fake?
Why did Bei Ye suddenly fall into a coma?
What exactly happened?
Soon, the imperial physician rushed to the study. He took Bei Ye's pulse and carefully examined his wounds and complexion.
The imperial physician's brows furrowed deeper and deeper, and his expression grew increasingly grave.
"Imperial Physician, how is Bei Ye?" Xu Yuehuai asked anxiously.
The imperial physician remained silent for a moment, then sighed: "His Highness Bei Ye's condition is very serious and requires immediate treatment."
Xu Yuehuai's heart sank to the bottom. She knew that Bei Ye was an indispensable figure in the palace, and his safety was related to the fate of the entire country.
She wiped away her tears and said firmly, "Imperial Physician, you must cure His Highness Bei Ye no matter what."
The imperial physician nodded: "I will do my utmost to save His Highness." He turned and instructed the maids and eunuchs beside him: "Immediately prepare herbs, hot water, and clean gauze."
Everyone accepted the order and left, and the entire study became bustling with activity.
Xu Yuehuai sat on the edge of the bed, silently looking at Bei Ye's pale and quiet face.
Her mind was in turmoil, her thoughts racing. She recalled every moment she had shared with Bei Ye, those days of laughter and camaraderie that felt like yesterday. She never imagined they would meet again in this way.
Time seemed to stand still, and Xu Yuehuai's heart was filled with endless worry and anticipation. She prayed that he would be safe and sound.
During this wait, she made up her mind: no matter what, she had to uncover the secret of Bei Ye's coma and seek justice for him.
Under the careful treatment of the imperial physicians, Bei Ye's condition improved significantly.
Soon after, he slowly opened his eyes and saw Xu Yuehuai standing by his bedside, a barely perceptible emotion flashing in her eyes.
Upon seeing Bei Ye wake up, Xu Yuehuai immediately asked with concern, "Bei Ye, what happened to you? Why did you suddenly faint?"
Bei Ye did not answer her question, but turned to look at the imperial physician beside him, his voice weak but full of anxiety: "What exactly is wrong with my health?"
The imperial physician frowned and said in a grave tone, "Your Highness Bei Ye, it seems you have been poisoned by a very rare toxin that is very difficult to detect. I almost failed to detect it myself just now."
Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai's expression changed, and she stared nervously at the imperial physician, seemingly waiting for him to continue.
Bei Ye feigned surprise, but his heart was in turmoil. He had long known that his body was different from others, but he never expected to be poisoned by such a strange poison.
Xu Yuehuai immediately ordered the guards beside her, "Go and investigate quickly! You must find out who poisoned His Highness!" Her voice was firm and powerful, full of concern and worry for Bei Ye.
Bei Ye silently closed his eyes, pondering his next move. He knew this poisoning incident was just the beginning; even greater challenges lay ahead...
After all the imperial physicians and guards had left, Xu Yuehuai walked to Bei Ye's bedside and asked softly, "Bei Ye, why did you give me a fake pass?"
Bei Ye lay on the bed, his face pale. He coughed a few times, pretending not to know anything, and said, "What fake pass token? Sister Yue, I really don't know what you're talking about."
Xu Yuehua frowned slightly, looked at him, and said, "Bei Ye, don't play dumb. I know you definitely know that the token is fake."
