Chapter 1397 A Life for a Life

She was roughly bound and led through winding, dark tunnels until she finally arrived at a gloomy underground palace. Strange runes filled the surroundings, and a chilling energy emanated from the air.

"This evil formation again? What exactly are you trying to do?" Xu Yuehuai was thrown into the center of the formation. She looked up at the man in black robes, her eyes filled with confusion and anger.

The man in black robes sneered, not answering directly, but slowly chanting an ancient incantation.

As the incantation was chanted, the energy within the underground palace began to fluctuate violently. Xu Yuehuai felt as if her head was being torn apart, and countless dark shadows emerged from the ground, attempting to attach themselves to her body.

"This...is this the legendary possession?" Xu Yuehuai's consciousness began to blur, and countless fragments of memories that did not belong to her flooded her mind. "So, the reason you were able to come to this world was through such cruel methods."

"Soon, you will become one of us, possessing endless power and life." The black-robed man's voice was full of temptation and smugness.

Xu Yuehuai sneered, knowing full well that once she gave in, it would mean losing herself forever.

"Don't even think about it!" She struggled with all her might, but her body grew weaker and weaker, becoming withered little by little, as if her life was being slowly drained away. Her hair began to turn white, like fallen leaves in the autumn wind, quickly losing its original luster.

Inside the underground palace, darkness, like a thick curtain, tightly enveloped every inch of space. Only the sound of breathing and the occasional clanging of metal echoed in the deathly silence.

Just as Xu Yuehuai's hair turned half white, a dazzling beam of light, like lightning piercing the night sky, suddenly tore through the darkness of the underground palace, illuminating everyone's faces.

Bei Ye, like a war god descending from the heavens, blasted open an entrance to freedom, leaped down, and headed straight for the man in black robes!

"Sister, hold on! I'm coming to save you!"

A glimmer of hope flashed in Xu Yuehuai's eyes—a yearning for life and gratitude for Bei Ye's fearlessness.

Upon seeing this, the man in black robes curled his lips into a cold smile, and black magic surged around him, as if to devour the faint light.

"You mere ants, you think you can save people from my clutches?"

Bei Ye's eyes burned with fierce fighting spirit, "Your plan will ultimately be shattered!"

After saying that, he moved swiftly, his sword flashing like a dragon, and attacked the man in black robes!

Swords flashed and clashed, each collision accompanied by a deafening roar, as if the air inside the underground palace was ignited, with waves of heat rolling in.

Xu Yuehuai stood by, on the verge of death, yet her heart remained unusually calm. She closed her eyes and concentrated, trying to use her willpower to resist the dark shadows that kept invading her mind. Her face was filled with determination, every cell fighting for survival.

"I can't give up, I can't let Bei Ye's efforts be in vain!" she silently chanted in her heart, using her last bit of willpower to defend her soul.

However, the black-robed man's formation was too powerful, and Xu Yuehuai's hair had turned completely white without her noticing, a sign of her life force fading away.

She opened her eyes and looked at Bei Ye, who was locked in combat with the man in black robes. "Bei Ye, you must live..."

Suddenly, the battle turned dramatically. Bei Ye was accidentally struck by the black power of the man in black robes, and his body fell heavily to the ground. The man in black robes grabbed his neck, his eyes filled with the triumph of a victor.

"Go to hell!" His voice was cold and ruthless, as if he had already pronounced Bei Ye's death sentence.

"Don't kill him!" Xu Yuehuai shouted hoarsely.

But Bei Ye smiled; it was a smile of relief, and also a final tenderness towards Xu Yuehuai.

"Sister, go quickly, don't worry about me." He said it lightly, but the determination in his eyes was heartbreaking.

Just as the man in black robes was about to strike, Bei Ye suddenly sprang up, grabbed the man in black robes with all his might, and ran towards the darkest corner of the underground palace.

There, he had prepared explosives beforehand!

"Sister, this is the last thing I can do for you," he murmured to himself, then ignited the explosives on his body.

"Bang bang bang!"

A deafening explosion rang out, and everything inside the underground palace seemed to be torn apart by the force.

Xu Yuehuai was thrown far away by the shockwave, covered in dirt, but she didn't care. She struggled to get up from the dust and staggered towards the direction of the explosion.

"Bei Ye! Don't die!"

When she finally pulled Bei Ye out, she saw him lying there quietly, his face pale, and he was no longer breathing.

Tears welled up in Xu Yuehuai's eyes as she tightly embraced Bei Ye's body, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Bei Ye, you haven't paid back the debt between us yet..." Her voice choked with sobs, filled with endless sorrow.

Outside the shadowy underground palace, the sunlight seemed oblivious to the sorrow within, still gently illuminating the earth, yet unable to penetrate Xu Yuehuai's already gloomy heart.

The sword of Bei Ye in her hand was so heavy that it felt like she was carrying the entire world on her back. Every step she took with her limping leg was accompanied by indescribable pain, but she never stopped, because it was the only guide in her heart at this moment.

"Xiaoyue." Bai Yu and Xiao Rui waited outside the underground palace. When Bai Yu saw Xu Yuehuai come out, he tried to approach her, but was stopped by Xu Yuehuai's cold gaze.

"Those who stand in my way shall die." She raised Bei Ye's sword, pointing it at Bai Yu's heart.

Bai Yu's eyes reddened, and she could only weakly utter, "I'm sorry."

Xu Yuehuai's gaze swept across everyone's faces, finally settling on Bai Yu, her eyes showing both determination and relief.

From now on, we are strangers.

These words were not only spoken to Bai Yu, but also to everyone who tried to get close to her but could not understand her state of mind at that moment. She turned around and continued walking, leaving the vicinity of the underground palace.

"Bei Ye, I will carry your sword and continue to live." She silently repeated these words in her heart, as if making a promise to Bei Ye, and also as a redemption for her own soul. This power, like a light in the dark night, illuminated her path forward, giving her a reason to persevere in despair.

The palace gates opened slowly and then closed slowly, as if shutting out all the sorrow inside.

Xu Yuehuai's steps grew heavier and heavier until she could no longer support herself and her body swayed precariously.

Just then, a warm embrace caught her as she was about to fall. It was Qi Guze, the one who always appeared when she needed him most.

"Aze, with you here, I feel..." Before she could finish speaking, she fell into a coma, a relieved smile still lingering on her face.

Qi Guze felt both heartache and self-reproach, "Silly girl, thank goodness I came."

He held Xu Yuehuai tightly in one arm and carefully carried Bei Ye's body in the other, then flew away.

When Xu Yuehuai woke up again, she found herself leaning against Qi Guze's chest, while he was resting against a tree, his face slightly pale, clearly indicating that his leg had not fully recovered.

"Where is Bei Ye's body?" That was her first question.
