Chapter 1279 Mysteries of East Street

The moonlight, like water, gently fell, draping the tranquil night in a silver veil. In this hazy moonlight, two figures walked slowly forward, their shadows stretching long and long on the stone path, as if extending into the endless darkness.

Bei Ye was speaking softly to Xu Yuehua beside him: "Sister, your eyes haven't fully healed yet. The sunlight is too bright during the day, so you need to be careful. But now the night is as still as water, and the moonlight is gentle, so you can walk around a little. However, you must remember not to look directly into strong light, and you must keep this hat on."

His words were filled with concern and worry, and his deep eyes revealed genuine emotion.

Xu Yuehuai was as cold as frost. She nodded slightly, her voice indifferent and distant: "I understand."

She quickened her pace, as if trying to escape this suffocating tenderness.

Bei Ye smiled helplessly, shook his head, and followed closely behind.

Upon arriving at the mansion gate, a discreet carriage was already quietly waiting.

Xu Yuehuai got into the car and sat in a corner of the carriage, far away from Bei Ye.

Seeing this, Bei Ye was not annoyed. He simply brought her tea and carefully arranged the snacks.

“Young master, you’d better not make a move,” Xu Yuehuai said calmly, her voice devoid of any warmth. “Right now, it’s hard to tell who is whose maid.”

Upon hearing this, Bei Ye's face flashed with a hint of embarrassment, but he quickly recovered and smiled gently, "Sister, I am happy to do these little things for you. I never pretend in front of you, and this gentleness is only for you."

Xu Yuehuai snorted coldly, a mocking smile playing on her lips: "You want me to believe that a treacherous and cunning person can be sincere? I might as well believe that pigs can fly." Her voice was full of disdain and sarcasm.

Bei Ye, however, did not get angry. Instead, he smiled and replied, "What if I could really make my sister see pigs climbing trees?"

His eyes were deep and unfathomable, as if they held secrets unknown to others.

Xu Yuehuai snorted coldly, ignoring him, and simply urged, "Stop joking with me. Just take me wherever you want, I'm a little tired and want to go back and rest." Her tone was full of exhaustion and impatience.

Bei Ye knew she simply didn't want to talk to him anymore, so he said nothing more and simply instructed the driver, "Let's go."

The driver responded, and the carriage slowly started moving, heading into the depths of the night.

Throughout the journey, Xu Yuehuai kept her eyes tightly closed, unwilling to look at the scenery outside the window.

Bei Ye sat quietly to the side, his gaze occasionally falling on her, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

Finally, the carriage stopped on the particularly bustling East Street.

Xu Yuehuai opened her eyes and looked out the window. She saw that the street was brightly lit, bustling with people.

She frowned slightly, seemingly uncomfortable with the noise around her.

Seeing this, Bei Ye explained softly, "Today is Dongsang's prayer day. People come to the streets to pray for peace and prosperity in the coming year." His words revealed his love and reverence for this land.

Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai simply gave a faint "oh" and said no more.

Bei Ye didn't mind, he just silently stayed by her side, letting her immerse herself in her own world.

The lights on East Street illuminated people's faces, clearly depicting the joy and anticipation of each passerby.

However, this commotion felt like a jarring noise to Xu Yuehuai, making her uncomfortable. She frowned, her eyes darting through the crowd, trying to find a moment of peace.

Bei Ye noticed her discomfort and asked softly, "Sister, don't you like it here?"

Xu Yuehuai shook her head slightly, without saying anything more.

She knew in her heart that it wasn't that she disliked the prosperity here, but rather that she understood it all had nothing to do with her. She was merely a passerby, a passerby toyed with by fate and forgotten by time.

What happened to that person?

"Hmm! Quickly step back a bit, he seems a little off."

"not good!"

Just then, a commotion suddenly broke out in the crowd.

Xu Yuehua frowned slightly as she saw a figure fall to the ground, and the people around her scattered with screams.

Seeing this, Bei Ye immediately pulled Xu Yuehuai back a few steps, afraid that she would be affected.

Through the veil of the cap, Xu Yuehuai looked at the fallen figure. The person was pale and had closed eyes, seemingly having lost the breath of life.

A figure quickly squeezed through the crowd, crouched down, and carefully examined the person who had fallen to the ground.

Xu Yuehuai's heart skipped a beat; she recognized the person—the Ghost Doctor!

She wanted to go forward and leave a message for the Ghost Doctor, to tell him that she was still alive and that she needed his help.

However, Bei Ye held her hand tightly, preventing her from moving.

"Sister, you are my maid now, I cannot let you take risks." Bei Ye's voice rang in Xu Yuehuai's ears, carrying a cold warning.

Xu Yuehua struggled, trying to break free from Bei Ye's grasp, but her strength was far inferior to his.

Bei Ye gently pressed her acupoint to silence her, preventing her from speaking.

Then, he grabbed her and quickly left the crowd.

"Sister, I will not give you the chance to leave me." Bei Ye's voice echoed in Xu Yuehuai's ears, carrying a hint of coldness and determination.

Xu Yuehuai glared fiercely at Bei Ye through the veil of her cap.

She knew that she was now firmly in his grasp and could not escape.

But she also understood that she couldn't give up like this. She still had many tasks to complete, and too many people needed her to save.

...

Bei Ye led Xu Yuehuai to a restaurant.

The environment here was much quieter than outside, but Xu Yuehuai felt even more oppressed.

She sat at the table, looking at the dishes, but had no appetite.

Bei Ye looked at her profile and asked, "Sister, don't you like these? I remember these are your favorite dishes!"

Xu Yuehuai silently picked up her chopsticks, took a bite of food, and immediately spat it out. She frowned, looking at the dishes with disgust in her heart.

"Even a dog wouldn't eat this stuff; it's nowhere near as good as Tianxianglou's," Xu Yuehuai said loudly, her voice filled with dissatisfaction and sarcasm.

No sooner had she finished speaking than the restaurant's chef stormed over, pointing angrily at Xu Yuehuai. He shouted, "Miss, how dare you insult my dishes like this? My dishes are the best here!"

Xu Yuehuai suddenly sneered and said sarcastically, "What I make tastes better than what you make."

Upon hearing this, the chef turned red with anger. He shouted, "How could a little girl like you possibly cook better than me? If you can cook better than me, I'll kneel down and kowtow to you!"
