Chapter 1268 Successful Escape

Under the pitch-black night sky, a chilling atmosphere permeated the mountains and forests. Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor stood in a small clearing, surrounded by their black-robed henchmen. However, at this critical moment, a hint of joy suddenly appeared on their faces.

"Look, over there!" Xu Yuehuai pointed to a bright light in the distance.

The Ghost Doctor looked in the direction she was pointing and saw an elite cavalry force rushing towards them with unstoppable momentum.

"Reinforcements!" the Ghost Doctor shouted excitedly, then brandished his longsword and attacked the stunned man in black robes.

Xu Yuehuai was not to be outdone. She moved nimbly, and the hidden weapons in her hand flew out like meteors, aiming straight for the enemy's vital points.

Led by the two, the soldiers who rushed over were greatly encouraged and joined the fight against the men in black robes.

With the help of reinforcements, they quickly gained the upper hand and routed the black-robed men.

However, just as the battle was about to end, a black figure suddenly rushed out from the crowd and fled into the depths of the forest. It was the masked man; seeing the situation was dire, he tried to take the opportunity to escape.

"Xu Yuehuai, we will meet again." The masked man's voice echoed through the mountains and forests, carrying a hint of coldness and mockery.

"Heh, then next time will surely be your death day."

Xu Yuehuai sneered, and the hidden weapon in her hand flew out again, heading straight for the masked man's back. However, the masked man seemed to have been prepared, and he dodged the hidden weapon with ease.

"Do you think you can escape?" Xu Yuehua roared, chasing after him like a ghost.

Seeing this, the Ghost Doctor followed closely behind, the two of them chasing after each other.

However, the masked man seemed to be very familiar with the forest. He nimbly moved among the trees and quickly left the two behind.

"Forget it, let him go." Xu Yuehuai stopped and said, panting.

The Ghost Doctor stopped and agreed.

The two looked back and saw that the battlefield had been cleaned up and the black-robed men had been defeated and scattered.

"Thank you," Xu Yuehuai said to the Ghost Doctor. Her voice carried a hint of weariness and gratitude.

The Ghost Doctor shook his head and said with a smile, "I should be thanking you. If you hadn't stood in front of me, I would have been captured by those guys long ago."

The two shook their heads and chuckled, their fatigue and tension dissipating considerably.

At this moment, General Lin arrived with his cavalry. He breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that Xu Yuehuai and the Ghost Doctor were safe and sound.

"Your Highness, I am late," General Lin said, bowing.

Xu Yuehuai quickly waved his hand: "General, please get up. This is not your fault. I accidentally fell into the enemy's trap and was captured here. It has nothing to do with you. I should thank you for bringing people to rescue me in time."

General Lin scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly upon hearing this: "Your Highness is too kind. Let's leave this forest as soon as possible."

Xu Yuehuai put away her weapon: "Okay."

Afterwards, they led the cavalry out of the mountains and forests, returning to the main road via a small path.

Looking at the brightly lit capital of Dongsang ahead, Xu Yuehuai suddenly felt a tightness in her chest. She understood that this time, returning to Dongsang, the situation might not be better than before; it might even be more dangerous.

However, with the help of the Ghost Doctor and General Lin, she felt that no matter what, she would definitely be able to overcome this difficulty.

"The Eastern Sang Kingdom is just ahead. Hopefully, we can still make it back in time," Xu Yuehuai said softly.

Upon hearing this, General Lin immediately replied, "Your Highness, rest assured, I sent an advance team in early this morning to investigate, and so far we have not found anything unusual."

Xu Yuehuai breathed a sigh of relief. She knew she had to pull herself together, so she composed herself and continued on her way.

...

As dusk deepened at the gates of the capital city, Xu Yuehuai and her entourage arrived quietly.

This time, the soldiers guarding the city did not conduct a strict inspection as if facing a major enemy. They simply glanced at the city as a matter of routine and then waved for them to pass.

A hint of doubt flashed in Xu Yuehuai's eyes, but she did not stop walking. She turned her head slightly and whispered to the Ghost Doctor beside her, "Perhaps the martial law has been lifted."

The Ghost Doctor's expression was grave, his brows furrowed, seemingly not entirely convinced by this sudden relief. He replied in a low voice, "But I have a feeling this matter isn't so simple. In the capital, the situation is constantly changing; who can predict what will happen next?"

Upon hearing this, a sharp glint flashed in General Lin's eyes. He turned to Xu Yuehuai and said, "Your Highness, I'll go ask the people who came in earlier if they know anything."

Xu Yuehua nodded and instructed, "Be careful."

General Lin responded and turned to disappear into the night. A short while later, he reappeared before them, a hint of relief on his face: "Your Highness, I've found out. It seems someone caught some traitors in the city, which is why the inspection was so lax this time."

After listening, Xu Yuehuai slowly said, "No matter what, we cannot let our guard down. This is the capital after all, and every move we make may attract the attention of others."

She looked around and pointed to a restaurant not far away, saying, "Let's rest at the restaurant near Tianxiang Restaurant first, and then make plans."

Everyone nodded in agreement and followed Xu Yuehuai toward the brightly lit restaurant.

The restaurant staff, seeing that the group of guests were well-dressed, hurried forward to serve them attentively.

Xu Yuehuai and the others were arranged to rest in different rooms.

The night was deep and quiet, and all was still.

The Ghost Doctor suddenly appeared outside Xu Yuehuai's door and gently knocked.

Xu Yuehuai got up, put on her coat, opened the door, and was surprised to see the Ghost Doctor: "Why are you here so late?"

The Ghost Doctor smiled slightly, carrying a medicine box in his hand: "I'll give you acupuncture. Now that we're back in the capital, we can figure out a way to detoxify you."

Upon hearing this, Xu Yuehuai felt a warmth in her heart and quickly invited the Ghost Doctor into the house.

Inside the room, the Ghost Doctor took out silver needles and gently inserted them into Xu Yuehuai's acupoints.

Xu Yuehuai closed her eyes, feeling the subtle changes brought about by the silver needles.

While administering acupuncture, the ghost doctor asked in a low voice, "Have you had any discomfort symptoms recently?"

Xu Yuehua thought for a moment and shook her head, saying, "Aside from occasional dizziness, there's nothing seriously wrong."

The Ghost Doctor continued his work: "Although this poison is potent, fortunately your poisoning is not severe. As long as you take the medicine and undergo acupuncture on time, it should be able to be cleared away gradually."

After the acupuncture was finished, the Ghost Doctor took out a list from his medicine box and handed it to Xu Yuehuai: "These are the medicinal materials we will need next. Some of them are relatively easy to find, but there are a few that are particularly precious and may not be available for the time being."

Xu Yuehuai took the list, glanced through it carefully, and frowned, saying, "These medicinal herbs are precious, but Tianxianglou should be able to help find some. I'll send someone to contact them right away."
