Chapter 29 (First Release)
Could he be looking for her?
Impossible, impossible.
Seeing that the other person seemed to have noticed something and suddenly looked this way, Ning Wanwan quickly turned around and hid around the corner.
Fortunately, they were far enough away that the other person definitely didn't see her. Ning Wanwan figured she would go around the school's main gate.
As for why Jiang Chengran was blocking the main gate, that definitely has nothing to do with me. It's absolutely impossible that he came to catch me. How could he possibly know which school I'm in?
Ning Wanwan thought with a glimmer of hope, refusing to consider that it was easy to connect the fact that she had gone to the Jiang family with Lin Ruowei.
She turned and walked away, taking a detour and leaving through the back gate of the school.
I found a cat supply store nearby and wanted to buy some cat food with my own money.
Since I had never dealt with these before, I wasn't sure how to choose, so the shop owner helped me select them.
After weighing her budget, Ning Wanwan bought some cat food. It wasn't as high-end as the one Lin Ruowei had brought last time, but it was still a decent brand from a small pet store.
"Would you like to look at other things? Cat carriers, cat toys, and things like that—they're all new arrivals from today," the shop owner enthusiastically recommended.
Ning Wanwan glanced at the items quickly: cute cat carriers and various cat toys—things that anyone who wanted to keep a cat as a pet for a long time would definitely buy.
Unfortunately, the shop owner recommended the wrong person. Ning Wanwan didn't own a cat and didn't need anything other than cat food. She just wanted to buy some cat food to feed the stray cats.
"No need, this is fine with me." Ning Wanwan walked to the checkout counter, placed the cat food she had chosen on it, and didn't even glance at the other cat supplies.
After paying the bill, Ning Wanwan stepped into the grove with the cat food and saw several colorful kittens playing and frolicking, rolling around in a ball like little fluffy balls.
So cute!
Ning Wanwan couldn't help but chuckle softly. She looked around but didn't spot the rather unusual black kitten.
She shared the cat food with the stray kittens, and this time they became a little more affectionate towards Ning Wanwan, willing to eat her cat food, but still not very willing to be petted by her.
Ning Wanwan realized that Shen Wu must have been feeding them very frequently for the kittens to be so affectionate towards her.
"That's good. The female lead is very kind. She's willing to care about these stray cats, so at least we don't have to worry about them starving to death." Ning Wanwan let out a soft sigh, which was a sigh of worry.
Although she came here, she did not intend to catch the little black cat and take it with her as Lin Ruowei had suggested.
However, it was also predictable that Lin Ruowei would be furious.
Ning Wanwan felt a little tired, so she simply sat down on the stone next to her, resting her chin on her hand and her knees on her knees, watching the hazy, warm glow of dusk falling through the gaps in the branches and leaves.
"Things haven't been going well lately," Ning Wanwan said, her expression troubled but her eyes clear and calm. "In every sense of the word."
"Sometimes I feel it's quite meaningless, and I don't understand why I'm here."
"I really want to reach the finale soon, leave this world, and go back to my quiet and ordinary home."
The sunset was reflected in the girl's eyes, as if they were filled with amber-colored honey.
As the system was being monitored, there was a slight pause in the data processing, but it quickly returned to normal.
It didn't know how to comfort its host. It had already said enough comforting words, and it had a gut feeling that its host didn't need its comfort right now. She probably just needed to be alone for a while.
The girl gazed at the beautiful sunset, while the system watched her silently keep her company.
However, it wasn't just the system watching the girl; there was another non-human creature as well.
"Meow." A black kitten stood on a treetop, a small flower dangling from its mouth.
It stared blankly at the girl, who was draped in a layer of light gold and seemed to be from another world.
It was inexplicably obsessed yet somewhat panicked, afraid that the girl would leave again like last time.
“That meowing sound…” Ning Wanwan looked up in surprise, but after careful observation, she still couldn’t find the little black cat hiding in the shadows of the treetops.
"Are you up there?" Ning Wanwan asked anxiously. "Kitty, it's dangerous up there. Come down quickly."
This tree is very tall. The stray kittens are still very small. What if they lose control and fall from the tree?
"Meow." Are you worried about me?
Realizing this, the little black cat felt its once nimble movements becoming sluggish, and the whole kitten was overjoyed.
Ning Wanwan finally managed to discern the location of the little black cat from the position of its bright green cat eyes among the branches and leaves of the tree.
"Meow".
Ning Wanwan reached out her hand, her voice soft and gentle: "You're standing so high up, can you come down?"
"Mew meow meow." Okay.
The little black cat responded with some urgent meows. When it saw Ning Wanwan look away for a moment, it thought she was about to leave and became even more anxious. Its paws inadvertently loosened, and the whole cat fell from the treetop!
Ning Wanwan, who was just looking down to grab some cat food in hopes of luring the little black cat down: "!!!"
Before she could even reach out to catch it, the little black cat reacted faster, adjusting its posture in mid-air, and a tiny fluffy ball of fur fell into her arms.
Ning Wanwan instinctively hugged the black, fluffy ball of fur, staring at the bright blue cat eyes.
"Meow~" The little black cat didn't seem afraid at all. Instead, it happily rubbed against her and meowed softly.
Ning Wanwan, who was stunned, finally came to her senses, patted the cat in her arms, and rubbed the cat's head a few times. It felt very nice.
But she still deliberately put on a stern face: "Kitty, you look so small, how come you're so brave?"
"Meow, meow."
The cat was reflected in the girl's eyes, and the warmth of her palm made the little black cat feel as if it were surrounded by the girl's faint fragrance.
The whole cat was dizzy and disoriented.
How strange! Under the girl's touch, even its four paws seemed to lose all strength, as if it had truly become a fragile kitten with no power to resist.
The little black cat, who was proud and aloof from birth and whose affection could not be shown even by Shen Wu's long-term feeding, was now nestled in Ning Wanwan's arms and did not want to get up.
Ning Wanwan stroked the coal-black, fluffy little ball of fur a few more times, then used her other hand to feed it some cat food.
Are you hungry?
"Meow meow." The little black cat buried its head and started eating without hesitation. Ning Wanwan could even occasionally feel the cat's wet, slightly barbed tongue licking her palm, which was a little itchy.
"Looks like they're starving."
Ning Wanwan patiently fed the little black cat until its belly was round and full, but it still wanted to eat more, so she couldn't help but stop it.
"You won't eat anything I feed you. I heard cats can tell when they're full, how can you be so stupid?" Ning Wanwan tapped the little black cat's head.
The little black cat seemed to understand her words, and looked at her with its moist, emerald-green cat eyes, looking a little guilty.
In the sunlight, those cat-like eyes were unbelievably beautiful, clear and deep, like the most expensive gemstones.
"So beautiful! You rarely see cats with eyes like that." Ning Wanwan looked at the cat for a while, then stroked it and exclaimed.
At least among all the stray cats in this grove, and among the cats she usually sees on the road, Ning Wanwan had never seen such emerald green cat eyes.
She sat on a rock, holding her little black cat, admiring the sunset painting the sky with its colors, and feeling the tranquility of the moment.
Perhaps because of the cat's company, Ning Wanwan didn't feel lonely at all this time.
On the contrary, she felt very happy to be alone here with the animals.
There's no need to pay attention to those messy interpersonal relationships outside.
The little black cat was also very happy. It stayed obediently in the girl's arms, its tail tip swaying gently.
It felt that at that moment, it was the happiest kitten in the world.
However long she stayed, Ning Wanwan would eventually have to leave.
The sun was about to set, and if we didn't leave soon it would get dark and the school gates would close.
Ning Wanwan reached out and placed the little black cat on the ground.
"Meow meow." The little black cat hadn't realized the girl was leaving yet, and it jumped left and right, wanting to be picked up by her again and put back in her arms.
Ning Wanwan smiled and stood up: "No, I'm leaving now."
Watching Ning Wanwan's retreating figure as she packed her things, the little black cat realized something. Its eyes widened in a daze, filled with both anxiety and disappointment.
Ning Wanwan did not notice the unusually strong anthropomorphic emotions emanating from the little black cat.
As she finished cleaning up the cat food the cat hadn't finished eating and was about to leave the grove, the little black cat started meowing very loudly.
The cat practically clung to Ning Wanwan, not wanting her to leave.
Even its bright green cat eyes looked like they were about to cry from sadness.
Ning Wanwan felt somewhat helpless. She couldn't possibly take the cat with her; she couldn't even take care of herself in this world, let alone raise a cat properly.
"I have to go home now..."
"I'll come see you again next time." She tried to coax the little black cat, her slender white fingers gently stroking the little coal ball's fluffy black fur.
"Meow—" The little black cat seemed to understand her words. After hesitating for a moment, it reluctantly let go of her trouser leg with its paws.
Ning Wanwan was somewhat amazed and praised it by patting it again: "The cat is so intelligent."
The little black kitten meowed, enjoying the last bit of closeness and petting the girl had to give her that day.
Be good, okay?
The girl's smile was gentle, and in the little black cat's head, a deep thought was vaguely imprinted.
It turns out she likes well-behaved cats...
Then it will surely be the most well-behaved cat in the world.
Only then can I go home with her.
When Ning Wanwan left, she could still see the little black cat sitting upright in the same spot, watching her leave without blinking.
It's such a well-behaved kitten. If it were in her original world, she probably wouldn't be able to resist taking it home and raising it.
Unfortunately, she wasn't in the world where she still had the resources to keep pets, and these stray cats were under Chen Wu's care, so nothing bad would happen to them.
Thinking of this, Ning Wanwan turned her head, looked at the sky, and hurriedly left before the school gate closed.
The little black cat, having watched the girl's figure fade into the distance, finally moved its paw and walked to the rock where the girl had been sitting.
It curled up on it and slowly licked its fur, determined to keep it as clean and soft as possible.
The little black cat noticed that the girl petted it more today than last time.
She didn't take it with her today either, probably because it wasn't well-behaved enough.
The little black cat was already waiting for the girl's promised next visit.
[I have a feeling that this cat...] On the way home, the system felt that something was wrong.
[It looks just like the one the male lead keeps.]
