It turns out that when they first went up the mountain today, things were fine. They were hunting small game like pheasants and rabbits not far from the foot of the mountain.
There were only two air rifles, so He Chaoyang didn't lend them to anyone else. Instead, he taught the others how to make some simple traps.
Several educated youths managed to trap a few pheasants using wooden sticks and bamboo baskets, and the group had a great time.
Just as everyone had gathered a lot of things and was preparing to descend the mountain, an accident occurred.
A group of about seven or eight wild boars were seen swaying and walking out from the direction of the deep mountains.
Because there are many people going up the mountain today, and they are quite scattered, and in this mountain where the snow is 20 to 30 centimeters deep, people definitely can't outrun wild boars. If someone can't escape, there is a high possibility of an accident.
So He Chaoyang didn't tell everyone to run. Instead, before the wild boar got close, he shouted for everyone to find a large tree nearby and climb it.
Fortunately, having learned from their previous encounter with wild boars, everyone quickly dropped their prey and climbed up the nearest big tree as soon as they heard there was one.
Seeing everyone's performance, He Chaoyang felt much more at ease. He quickly looked around and found a large tree with thick branches to climb up.
He sat directly on a tree branch, raised his gun, aimed at the eye of the large wild boar walking in front, and killed it with a single shot.
However, this shot angered the wild boar herd, and seven or eight of them immediately became chaotic.
Fortunately, He Chaoyang discovered it early, and everyone hid in the trees where the safety measures were in place. He Chaoyang himself also found a relatively safe shooting position with a good view.
Calmly waiting for an opportunity, they shot and killed the nearly frenzied wild boars under the tree one by one.
Once the wild boars were no longer alive under the tree, the still-shaken crowd climbed down and examined the boar carcasses.
There were eight wild boars of varying sizes, which looked like a small herd.
Almost all wild boars are shot in the eye; the bullet enters the brain through the eye, directly damaging the brain and causing the wild boar's death.
Otherwise, with a wild boar's hide covered in thick pine resin and mud, it's not even possible to kill one wild boar, let alone with a single shot. Even if you used up all your bullets, you might not be able to kill one.
This discovery earned He Chaoyang the utmost respect from everyone.
However, because there were too many wild boars, He Chaoyang was afraid that the smell of blood all over the ground would attract wild animals from the mountains.
So after killing the last wild boar, they climbed down the tree first, roughly counted the number of wild boars and the locations where they died, and then began to arrange for everyone to build rafts to transport the pigs down the mountain.
Fortunately, everyone brought hemp ropes with them, and there was plenty of wood and withered vines in the mountains. Under He Chaoyang's command, everyone quickly assembled the raft.
There were thirteen of them in total. Two people shared a large wild boar, while the stronger educated youth each pulled one of the smaller ones. He Chaoyang was the strongest, so he pulled the largest one himself.
But those were wild boars after all; the larger ones weighed three or four hundred pounds, and the smaller ones weighed one or two hundred pounds. It took the group quite a bit of time and effort to transport the boars down the mountain.
It was already dark by the time everyone returned to the educated youth settlement, but fortunately, there was no danger along the way.
Although everyone was exhausted, the harvest was enormous. Looking at the wild boars all over the yard, everyone, who had collapsed on the ground from exhaustion, had big smiles on their faces.
The commotion had already alerted the female educated youth in the front and back yards. When they came out, they saw wild boars all over the ground, and the scene was quite spectacular.
Once everyone had rested enough, He Chaoyang began to call on everyone to prepare to deal with the wild boar.
Chen Shuning felt genuinely sorry for He Chaoyang and Chen Jiandang, who were covered in sweat from exhaustion. She quickly advised, "Brother He, I see that everyone is quite tired. Why don't we wait until tomorrow to deal with the pig? We've already brought it back, so one more night won't make a difference."
At this moment, He Chaoyang had already used a machete to cut down the pine branches on the raft and started making torches.
Hearing Chen Shuning's words, he didn't stop what he was doing. Instead, he smiled and explained, "Let's clean it up tonight while the blood can still be released. Otherwise, the blood will be wasted if it's left too long, and meat that's been soaked in blood won't taste good."
Then He Chaoyang shouted to the other male educated youths, "Everyone, hang in there and try to get the pig out tonight. Although I killed the pig, we all came up the mountain together and put in the effort. Once the wild boar is out, everyone who came up the mountain today will get a share."
He Chaoyang's words were so frank that they made the male educated youths, who had initially harbored some ulterior motives, lower their heads.
They originally thought that since He Chaoyang had hunted the wild boar, even if they helped bring it back, they would at most give him some meat as a token of their gratitude.
Most people envied He Chaoyang for his great achievements, so after hearing He Chaoyang's words, everyone secretly despised themselves and admired He Chaoyang even more from the bottom of their hearts.
They all got up from the ground and started working as if they had been injected with chicken blood.
At this point, many people were no longer after the meat, but simply out of admiration for He Chaoyang's character.
The torches illuminated the educated youth compound, and all the educated youth were busy at work.
Fortunately, the educated youth settlement was far from the village; otherwise, with the commotion in the courtyard, it might have attracted a crowd of villagers.
After everything was packed up, there were eight wild boars. Besides the one He Chaoyang brought back, there was also the small one that Chen Jiandang brought back himself. He Chaoyang took three more of the smaller ones, and the remaining three slightly larger ones were divided equally among the other educated youth.
It was precisely because He Chaoyang chose smaller wild boars that the other educated youth felt somewhat embarrassed.
While expressing their gratitude, they insisted on cleaning up He Chaoyang's wild boars and helping Chen Shuning return them before going back to clean up the three they had been allocated. Of course, that's another story.
