"After that day, I thought a lot and felt that you were deliberately forcing me to break up."
"Think what you want."
The man, with his back to her, took a deep drag on his cigarette.
"If you like me, you should want to see me doing what I like to do; that's what liking someone means."
Xiang Jingyi put out his cigarette, glanced back at her, and said, "Your career has developed very well over the years you've been with me."
He never said he would help her do what she wanted, but he did do something, though. People would give her some face, but it also depended on his attitude towards Jingyi.
His attitude speaks for itself, which is why people gave Su Lan the opportunity to be interviewed. Without so many interviews and so much buzz, Su Lan wouldn't be the current CEO of Gucheng TV.
But Su Lan's ambitions went far beyond that. From the beginning of their acquaintance to their romance, he felt that Su Lan was just as rational as he was, and that she was very clear about everything. They were the same kind of people and were a good match.
But he didn't know when it started, but Su Lan's rationality and clarity became what he disliked most.
Even if he were to think of a suitable match now, he no longer has those feelings for Su Lan.
Perhaps because we've been together for so many years, everything has become as bland as stagnant water, and those feelings have long since faded.
That day, when I proposed either getting married or breaking up, it was simply to put an end to my own life.
They could get married, he would treat her well, and they would live a life of mutual respect, which would have been the end of their relationship. But Su Lan refused, so he felt no pressure.
He gave her a choice.
"But Jingyi, people always strive for higher positions."
"I can't interfere with your decision, and I don't want to, but I'm just reminding you, don't involve my family in our business."
He was particularly disgusted by the fact that his own sister had lied to him to get him to come out.
God knows how terrified he was on his way here.
"Xiang Jingyi, you are so heartless."
Su Lan's heart turned cold time and time again, this time freezing to the extreme. She coldly asked Jing Yi, "Did I touch you?"
Is our relationship a transaction?
"You can treat it as a transaction, so you won't feel like you've lost out."
The man drove away, and Su Lan stood there. Through the glass, they glanced at each other. Su Lan absentmindedly walked to the driver's side. The window was open, and she reached in and grabbed the man's hand on the steering wheel.
"If I give you everything, will you feel a little more secure?"
It wasn't that she wouldn't give it to him; it's that Xiang Jingyi had never asked for it.
"Have some self-respect."
"You say you like my manners, my reserve, and that you want me to be independent and dignified. Haven't I respected myself enough over the years?"
"Su Lan," the man's voice was icy, "take your hand away."
