Chapter 278 Loving her, even willing to give up one's life

"No, no!" Song Yaoyao hurriedly shouted to stop her, but her heart was pounding with fear.

If she could seduce Zhou Jiuzhen even a little bit, she would have succeeded in her previous life.

But for now, she had no choice but to agree against her will.

"I promise you, Mr. Qin, I will definitely find a way to take the photos."

Qin Jin nodded in satisfaction. "That's right. Remember, if you mess this up, you know the consequences."

After saying that, he turned and strode out of the basement, leaving Song Yaoyao slumped on the ground, picking up Zhou Shuyao again, staring at the dim light, and crying in despair.

Before dawn, the mountain camp was shrouded in thick fog, and all around was silent.

Two soldiers got up early to measure the temperature in the mountains. They hadn't gone far from the camp when they tripped over something unexpected.

The two steadied themselves, looked down, and, in the dim light, realized it was a person.

The man was covered in mud and his clothes were tattered, making him almost unrecognizable.

"Who is this?" The two soldiers were startled and quickly squatted down, only to be shocked to find that it was their Battalion Commander Zhou!

They tentatively checked the other person's breath and found he was still breathing. "Someone come here! Battalion Commander Zhou is back!"

The two of them shouted at the top of their lungs.

Soon, several soldiers rushed over upon hearing the noise.

The group carefully carried Zhou Jiuzhen back to the newly erected tent in the camp.

The military medic arrived immediately and, upon seeing the unconscious wounded man, his expression turned grave. "Isn't this the battalion commander?! How did he get injured like this?"

As the military doctor spoke, he quickly examined Zhou Jiuzhen's injuries.

Soon, Political Commissar Hao and Captain Sun, along with several others, arrived after hearing the news.

After an examination, the military doctor frowned even more deeply. "The shoulder is dislocated and has a comminuted fracture. The injury is too serious. The bone must be set immediately, and there will be subsequent medication. If the treatment is not timely, this hand may be useless at any time and become disabled."

The military doctor dared not delay. After obtaining the consent of Political Commissar Hao, he immediately prepared surgical instruments to perform bone-setting surgery on the battalion commander.

Just as the surgery was in full swing, a commotion suddenly broke out outside the tent.

"Let me in, I need to see my son, Er Gou!"

A sharp female voice shattered the tranquility of the camp.

Everyone turned to look and saw Chu Mei ignoring all attempts to stop her and desperately trying to rush into the operating tent.

"Aunt Chu, you can't go in! The battalion commander is in surgery!" The soldiers rushed forward to stop her.

"Surgery? What kind of surgery? What happened to my son?"

As Chu Mei struggled, she shouted, "I want to see my son! I have questions for him!"

At this moment, Political Commissar Hao came out of the tent with a serious expression. "Aunt Chu, Battalion Commander Zhou is seriously injured. We are performing surgery on him. If you go in now, it will affect his treatment."

"I don't care about any kind of surgery!"

Chu Mei shoved Political Commissar Hao aside. "Big Dog has been missing for two days. I need to ask him if he knows where his brother is! He definitely knows, he has to tell me!"

As she spoke, she tried to rush into the tent again.

Commissar Hao and the soldiers were stunned. They never expected that the former commander's wife would only care about the whereabouts of her eldest son at this time, while ignoring the life and death of her youngest son.

"Aunt Chu, how can you do this? The battalion commander's life hangs by a thread. Shouldn't you be concerned about his safety first?"

Commissar Hao said, both angry and anxious.

"Er Gou has always been strong since he was a puppy, what could possibly happen to him? My Da Gou has a mental disability and can't handle any stress. If something happens to him, who will take responsibility!"

Chu Mei cried out and tried several times to break through the soldiers' obstruction, as if she was determined to break in and not give up until she got to the bottom of it.

Political Commissar Hao and his comrades were furious when they heard this, and they felt indignant on behalf of their Battalion Commander Zhou.

"So it turns out that the commander's wife is really biased towards her eldest son. Battalion Commander Zhou is so outstanding, but in her heart, he is not as good as her eldest son who went missing and whose reputation is ruined!"

One of the soldiers couldn't help but speak up for Zhou Jiuzhen.

"That's right, that's too much!" Other comrades chimed in.

Political Commissar Hao looked at Chu Mei and shook his head helplessly. "Aunt Chu, if you keep making a scene like this, the battalion commander's hand might really be lost."

Chu Mei acted as if she hadn't heard him and continued to cry and demand to see the battalion commander.

Just as everyone was at a stalemate, a painful groan came from inside the operating tent...

"Huanwu, Huanwu..."

As Zhou Jiuzhen murmured in pain, the military doctor cried out anxiously, "Quick, someone come and help!"

Upon hearing this, Political Commissar Hao and the soldiers at the entrance changed their expressions drastically and rushed into the tent.

Chu Mei then took the opportunity to follow the others into the ward.

As soon as she entered the ward, she was so frightened by Zhou Jiuzhen's appearance that her face turned pale.

Zhou Jiuzhen had his eyes closed, his left arm was at an unnatural angle at his side, and he was still struggling as if he had encountered something terrifying.

What terrified Chu Mei even more was that his cuffs were wrinkled from cold sweat, and the protruding joint at the dislocated joint was clearly visible.

His dark blue work jacket was already soaked with dark red blood, and beads of blood from his forehead obscured half of his eye, yet he clung tightly to the pillow in his arms as if in a nightmare, as if he were holding onto some priceless treasure.

Blood mixed with dirt was still dripping from between his fingers. With each breath, a layer of fresh blood seeped from the wound on his chest, spreading dark stains on his dusty clothes.

But he seemed completely oblivious to the pain, clutching the pillow in his arms and murmuring Ling Huanwu's name, preventing anyone else from getting close to him.

Seeing this, what is there that they don't understand!

Zhou Jiuzhen treated the pillow in his arms as Ling Huanwu, preventing others from hurting her.

Chu Mei had just thought that Zhou Jiuzhen had only suffered a minor injury and was deliberately refusing to see her in order to retaliate against her and make her worry about his older brother.

But I never expected him to be so badly injured.

The military doctor, Political Commissar Hao, Captain Sun, and several others tried to restrain Zhou Jiuzhen but were unable to control him. Seven or eight soldiers came up to help and held him down tightly before they could snatch the pillow from his arms and allow the military doctor to set his bones.

Zhou Jiuzhen's heart-wrenching cries echoed throughout the ward, piercing the ears of everyone present in the tent like sharp blades, striking straight into their hearts.

Outside the tent, the man's earth-shattering cries echoed through the sky, shattering the valley and tearing apart the wind and rain amidst the howling wind and rain on the mountaintop, deeply shaking the souls of everyone in the mountain camp.

"Why did you have to break us up? Why? She's my life! I just want to live..."

Amidst the cracking sound of bone being set, Zhou Jiuzhen cried out in pain, asking question after question.

For the first time, Chu Mei faced Zhou Jiuzhen's inner thoughts so clearly.

For the first time, she truly realized that her son actually liked this woman so much.

They'd even give up their lives.

But she wanted to steal his beloved away and push her to the big dog.
