Chapter 319 Two Wounded Soldiers Compete for Favor

"Nine tremors! Nine tremors!"

Ling Huanwu exclaimed anxiously, her heart leaping into her throat.

She rushed to Zhou Jiu'er's side in a panic, trying to help him up, but her tall stature made it difficult for her to do so.

Ling Huanwu rushed out of the small wooden shed. Rainwater soaked her hair and clung to her face, making it impossible to tell whether it was rain or tears.

She ran towards the soldiers' barracks, shouting at the top of her lungs, "Help! Battalion Commander Zhou has fainted!"

The sound was torn to pieces by the wind and rain.

Upon hearing the shouts, the soldiers on duty rushed over. Several of them carefully lifted the unconscious man from the wooden shed and ran towards the medical tent.

Ling Huanwu followed closely behind, her wet shoes leaving a trail of messy footprints in the mud.

Inside the military medical tent, the dim light shone on Ling Huanwu's bloodless face.

The military doctor focused intently, examining the patient carefully.

Ling Huanwu stood to the side, her hands tightly gripping the hem of her clothes, her fingers trembling slightly at her sides, her eyes never leaving Zhou Jiuzhen for a moment.

After a long while, the military doctor straightened up, breathed a sigh of relief, and said, "It's nothing serious. He just fainted because he was too stressed and exhausted. He just needs to rest."

Ling Huanwu finally felt relieved and breathed a long sigh of relief.

At this moment, Song Panmei, who was lying to the side, heard the noise and struggled to get up with her crutches. She said with a look of annoyance, "It's all my fault for breaking my leg. You've been taking care of me all this time and haven't been able to take care of the battalion commander. If I hadn't been injured, this wouldn't have happened."

As she spoke, Song Panmei's eyes were still slightly red.

Seeing this, Ling Huanwu quickly went over to comfort her: "Don't say that, this has nothing to do with you. You're injured and need someone to take care of you more."

As she spoke, she gently patted her childhood friend's shoulder.

Zhou Jiuzhen, who had just woken up, was still a little dazed when he heard Song Panmei's "tea talk" and couldn't help but curse in his heart: This kid is a complete vixen and he's talking nonsense!

Song Panmei clearly felt Zhou Jiuzhen's gaze. Seeing that he was awake, she deliberately took out her handkerchief to wipe the rain off Ling Huanwu.

"You're soaking wet. What if you catch a cold in the middle of the night?"

"You promised me you wouldn't go back even if it rained heavily, why did you break your promise and lie to me!"

Originally, Song Panmei was gentle and refined. Her words sounded aggrieved and reproachful, making anyone who heard them feel that they were in the wrong, regardless of whether they were right or wrong.

"I...I'm just worried about my three kids at home!"

Ling Huanwu touched her nose guiltily. She couldn't very well say that she missed her dull-witted husband at home, which was why she ran back in the middle of the night.

She dared not look into Song Panmei's eyes, which were as bright as the moon and stars. The moment she turned her head away, she met the gaze of Zhou Jiuzhen, who had just woken up.

"You're awake!"

Ling Huanwu immediately sat down next to Zhou Jiuzhen and helped him up. "What's wrong with you? Why did you faint from stress?"

Her eyes were full of concern as she inquired about his well-being.

Zhou Jiuzhen also leaned into Ling Huanwu's arms, raised an eyebrow at Song Panmei, looked up at her from below, and put his arm around Ling Huanwu's waist, his eyes full of smugness, "I'm fine, I just tossed and turned all night thinking about how you're pregnant and have to take care of people, so I'm worried. How about I come over and take care of Comrade Song tonight!"

Song Panmei raised an eyebrow, her gaze sweeping over Zhou Jiuzhen's hand resting on Ling Huanwu's waist, her expression inscrutable. "Commander Zhou looks even weaker than me, how can I let you take care of me?"

“Yes,” Ling Huanwu quickly retorted, “Actually, I didn’t take care of Panmei much at all. It was Panmei who took care of me these past two days.”

Ling Huanwu spoke casually, but Zhou Jiuzhen gritted his teeth and looked at Song Panmei behind Ling Huanwu with a sarcastic tone, "Then I must thank you for taking care of my wife!"

Ling Huanwu, however, was completely oblivious to Zhou Jiuzhen's awkward expression, his teeth practically clenched in pain, and made her decision on her own.

“Panmei is right. Jiuzhen, you need to rest well now. Why don’t you start living in the tent from tonight and bring the triplets with you? I’ll take care of you. I’m perfectly fine. It’s settled then.”

Zhou Jiuzhen was overjoyed to hear this.

At this moment, he looked at Song Panmei with smugness in his eyes and brows, as if to say: The vixen outside is just a vixen, how can she compare to him, the rightful wife!

Seeing his smug look, Song Panmei dropped all pretense and rolled her eyes at Zhou Jiuzhen from a corner where no one could see.

At mealtime.

Ling Huanwu handed the enamel bowls containing the rice to Zhou Jiuzhen and Song Panmei respectively.

Zhou Jiuzhen immediately picked up a crispy flatbread with his uninjured right hand. "Wife, you're so pregnant, eat more. Eat mine, it's still warm, I'll feed you!"

As he spoke, he brought the flatbread to Ling Huanwu's lips.

On the other side, Song Panmei hopped quickly to Ling Huanwu's side on her unbroken foot, and brought the egg she was peeling to Ling Huanwu's lips, "Don't listen to him and eat the flatbread, eggs are more nutritious and better than his!"

One of them almost poked the female lead's nose while handing her a biscuit, and the other dropped eggshell fragments into Ling Huanwu's bowl while peeling an egg.

Finally, Ling Huanwu caught the steamed bun in one hand and the egg in the other, and even had to use her other hand to pick out the eggshells. She was both amused and exasperated: "You two, I came here to take care of you. What are you doing? Can't I do it myself?"

After lunch, Ling Huanwu went to the public restroom, and Zhou Jiuzhen immediately got up from the bed. "Wife, I'll go with you. Everyone's crowding around now, and the public restroom is always packed. I'll stand guard for you!"

Not to be outdone, Song Panmei hopped out of the tent on one leg, leaning on her crutches: "With his broken hand, how could he possibly beat a bad guy? I can stand steadily on one leg, so I'm definitely more reliable as a gatekeeper than him!"

As a result, one of them, who was using a cane, was walking too fast and almost tripped the female lead, while the other lost his balance and almost knocked over a bucket of water at the entrance of the public toilet.

In the end, Ling Huanwu was protected by the two "broken-bones bodyguards" in the middle. She had to stop every two steps and then turn around to help them. The villagers watched from afar and laughed, "These two injured people are more clingy than the bride!"

When sleeping at night.

The triplets insisted on hearing a story.

Just as Ling Huanwu was about to speak, Zhou Jiuzhen immediately pulled out a comic book from somewhere. "Nephews, listen to your uncle. Your uncle will tell you a story so your aunt can go to bed early!"

Seeing this, Song Panmei quickly hopped over on one foot, pulled out a rattle drum from somewhere, and shook it loudly. "Don't listen to him, listen to the pilot uncle. The uncle will shake the rattle drum for you and imitate the sound of an airplane!"

One of them tore the pages of the book while turning the pages with his right hand, and the other shook the rattle drum so vigorously that he flung the drumsticks out, which happened to hit Xiao Bao on the head.

The triplets didn't get to hear the story at all; the other two were busy picking up drumsticks and flipping through pages around them.

Ling Huanwu could only soothe the crying Xiaobao while pressing the two "wounded" men, who were arguing heatedly, back onto the bed.

"Stop arguing, or no one will hear the story tonight!"
